A supercavitation is modern technology that can be used to reduce the frictional resistance of the underwater vehicle. In the process of reaching the supercavity condition which cavity envelops whole vehicle body, a vehicle passes through transition phase from fully-wetted to supercaviting operation. During this phase of flight, unsteady hydrodynamic forces and moments are created by partial cavity. In this paper, analytical and numerical investigations into the dynamics of supercavitating vehicle in transition phase are presented. The ventilated cavity model is used to lead rapid supercavity condition, when the cavitation number is relatively high. Immersion depth of fins and body, which is decided by the cavity profile, is calculated to determine hydrodynamical effects on the body. Additionally, the frictional drag reduction associated by the downstream flow is considered. Numerical simulation for depth tracking control is performed to verify modeling quality using PID controller. Depth command is transformed to attitude control using double loop control structure.

This paper describes a result of the guidance and control for re-entry vehicle during TAEM phase. TAEM phase (Terminal Aerial Energy Management phase) has many conditions, such as density, velocity, and so on. Under these conditions, we have optimized trajectory and other states for guidance in TAEM phase. The optimized states consist of 7 variables, down-range, cross range, altitude, velocity, flight path angle, vehicle's azimuth and flight range. We obtained the optimized reference trajectory by DIDO tool, and used feedback linearization with neural network for control re-entry vehicle. By back propagation algorithm, vehicle dynamics is approximated to real one. New command can be decided using the approximated dynamics, delayed command input and plant output, NARMA-L2. The result by this control law shows a good performance of tracking onto the reference trajectory.

In this study, computational structural dynamic analyses of a gyrocopter have been conducted considering unsteady dynamic hub-loads due to rotating blades. 3D CATIA models with detailed mechanical parts we constructed and virtually assembled into the complete aircraft configuration. The dynamic loading generated by rotating blades in the forward flight condition are calculated by a commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code such as FLUENT. Modal based transient and frequency response analyses are used to efficiently investigate vibration characteristics of the gyrocopter. Free vibration analysis results for different fuel and pilot conditions, frequency responses and transient responses for critical flight conditions are also presented in detail.

The design process of blended inlet body (BIB) for the preliminary design of a near-space high supersonic unmanned aerial vehicle (HSUAV) is presented. The mass flow rate and cowl area of inlet at a design point are obtained according to the cruise condition of the HSUAV. A mixed-compression axisymmetric supersonic inlet section with a fixed geometry reasonably matching the high supersonic cruise state is created by using the inviscid theory of aerodynamics. The inlet section is optimized and used as a baseline section for the BIB design. Three BIB concepts for the HSUAV are proposed, and their internal aerodynamic characteristics of inlet are evaluated using Euler computational fluid dynamics (Euler CFD) solver. The preferred concept is identified, in which the straight leading edge of the baseline HSUAV configuration is modified into the convex leading edge to accommodate the inlet and meet the requirements of the cowl area to capture the sufficient air flow. The total recovery of inlet for the preferred BIB concept and the aerodynamic characteristics of the modified HSUAV configuration are verified using Navier-Stokes computational fluid dynamics (NS CFD) solver. The validation indicates that the preferred BIB concept can meet both the requirements of the inlet and aerodynamic performance of the HSUAV.

In this study, transonic aeroelastic response analyses have been conducted for the DLR-F4(wing-body) aircraft configuration considering shockwave and flow separation effects. The developed fluid-structure coupled analysis system is applied for aeroelastic computations combining computational structural dynamics(CSD), finite element method(FEM) and computational fluid dynamics(CFD) in the time domain. It can give very accurate and useful engineering data on the structural dynamic design of advanced flight vehicles. For the nonlinear unsteady aerodynamics in high transonic flow region, Navier-Stokes equations using the structured grid system have been applied to wing-body configurations. In transonic flight region, the characteristics of static and dynamic aeroelastic responses have been investigated for a typical wing-body configuration model. Also, it is typically shown that the current computation approach can yield realistic and practical results for aircraft design and test engineers.

This paper aims to propose new reentry guidance for Korean Space plane (KSP). Similar to the Space Shuttle guidance concept, a reference drag profile is first determined to satisfy several flight path constraints and boundary conditions, and the proposed guidance commands are realized in a way to track the predetermined reference drag profile. To this end, the drag dynamics is examined. The investigation uncovers that the dynamics characteristics of the drag and the flight path angle are considerably different. Based on this fact, the proposed guidance commands are determined using the time-scale separation technique and the feedback linearization methodology. The key feature of the proposed guidance lies in its simple structure and a clear working mechanism. Therefore, the proposed method is simple to implement compared to existing methods. Numerical simulations are performed to investigate the performance of the proposed method.
This paper constructs a precise dynamics model using flightlab, a specialized program for rotor modeling and performance analysis, to simulate urban air mobility (UAM). flightlab is well-suited for detailed modeling of UAM, particularly requiring detailed aerodynamic characteristics under high-altitude and urban wind conditions. The study focuses on implementing and analyzing a lift-cruise UAM model with distributed propulsion using flightlab. The lift-cruise model integrates motors for vertical take-off and fixed-wing flight. Given the limited specific examples of such UAM models in flightlab and challenges in evaluating with conventional fixed-wing or drone models, this research implements and verifies the lift-cruise model using matlab, comparing its performance against flightlab results to validate the modeling approach. This research aims to explore the potential of flightlab for detailed UAM modeling and contribute to technological advancements in future urban transportation.
The pressure is generally lower than that of the freestream at the base of a missile body due to the energy loss by the flow separation around the edge of the base. The base pressure changes in the presence of the thrust jet due to the interaction between the base flow of the missile and the jet flow. In this study, behavior of the missile base pressure by the change of the jet exit pressure and the freestream condition is investigated using the CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) method. Effects of the grid type and the freestream condition are tested. The results are compared with the semi-empirical predictions and the flight test data. The CFD results agree well with the flight test data. The semi-empirical predictions overestimate the base pressure when jet thrust is strong for low freestream speed.
The ablation dynamics and cluster formation of $C_n^+$ ions ejected from 355 nm laser ablation of a graphite target in vacuum are investigated using a reflectron time-of-flight (RTOF) mass spectrometer. At low laser fluence, odd-numbered cluster ions with $3{\leq}n{\leq}15$ are predominantly produced. Increasing the laser fluence shifts the maximum size distribution towards small cluster ions, implying the fragmentation of larger clusters within the hot plume. The temporal evolution of $C_n^+$ ions was measured by varying the delay time of the ion extraction pulse with respect to the laser irradiation, providing significant information on the characteristics of the ablated plume. Above a laser fluence of $0.2J/cm^2$ , large cluster ions ($n{\geq}30$) are produced at relatively long delay times, indicating that atoms or small carbon clusters aggregate during plume propagation. The dependence of the intensity of ablated $C_n^+$ ions on delay time after laser irradiation shows that the most probable velocity of each cluster ion decreases with cluster size.

A Supersonic air intake model was designed for the high performance ramjet and dual-mode scramjet engine to operate at Mach 4 flight condition. The air intake was tested in the blowdown-type wind tunnel of Kyushu University to identify the internal flow characteristics corresponding to the flight parameters such as the back pressure, angle of attack and angle of yaw. Flow visualization was achieved by the Schlieren and oil flow visualization techniques. The intake performance was analyzed quantitatively based on the surface pressure and total Pressure measurements. The experimental results were compared with the computational fluid dynamics results. The present study exhibits the fundamental but rarely found experimental results of the high Mach number supersonic air intake.
