가시광 무선인식장치에서 가장자리 펄스변조를 이용한 플리커 방지 (Flicker Prevention Through Edge-Pulse Modulation in a Visible Light Identification System)

  • In this study, we applied edge-pulse modulation to prevent the flicker of light-emitting diode (LED) light in a visible light identification system. In the visible light transmitter, positive pulses were transmitted at the edges of the low-to-high transition points, and negative pulses were transmitted at the edges of the high-to-low transition points of the non-return-to-zero (NRZ) data waveforms. In the visible light receiver, the NRZ waveforms were regenerated by making low-to-high and high-to-low transitions at the point of the positive and negative pulses, respectively. This method has two advantages. First, it ensures that the LED light is flicker-free because the average optical power of the LED was kept constant during data transmission in the transmitter. Second, the 120 Hz optical noise from the adjacent lighting lamps was easily cut off using a simple RC-high pass filter in the receiver.

  • In this study, we applied transition-frequency modulation to prevent the flickering of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) in visible light communication (VLC). In the VLC transmitter, rectangular waveforms with transition frequencies of four and two in each bit time were used for the high and low bits, respectively, in the non-return-to-zero data. In the VLC receiver, an RC-high-pass filter (HPF) was used to eliminate the interference of the 120 Hz noise light from the adjacent lighting lamps, and an SR-latch circuit was used to recover the transmitted signal using spikes from the output of the RC-HPF. This configuration is useful for constructing VLC systems that are flicker-free and resistant to adjacent noise light interference.

  • Performing accurate and repeatable low frequency noise measurement is critical for modeling and simulation of flicker noise. Through the accurate and repeatable on-wafer measurement, low frequency noise characteristics of the 0.18 ${\mu}m$ n-MOSFETs are discussed. And on-wafer flicker noise measurement system is presented. The on-wafer measurement system consists of cascade probe station, low noise current amplifier (SR570), and dynamic signal analyzer (HP35670A).

맨체스터 코드의 부반송파 변조를 이용한 가시광통신의 조명제어 (Dimming Control in Visible Light Communication Using Subcarrier Modulation of Manchester Code)

  • In this study, we propose a dimming control method for a visible light communication (VLC) system, in which the subcarrier on-off keying (OOK) modulation of Manchester code is used for data transmission. In the VLC transmitter, non-return-to-zero (NRZ) code data is transformed to Manchester code, which is OOK modulated with a subcarrier. Manchester code is used for flicker-free lighting; the duty factor is changed for dimming control, and the subcarrier is used for preventing the adjacent noise light interference. In the experiments, the dimming control was carried out from about 8%-92% of the continuous wave (CW) LED light. This configuration is simple and effective in constructing a VLC system for indoor wireless sensor networks with flicker-free illumination and dimming control capability without adjacent noise light interference.

CMOS Direct-Conversion RF Front-End Design for 5-GHz WLAN

  • Direct-conversion RF front-end for 5-GHz WLAN is implemented in $0.18-{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The front-end consists of a low noise amplifier, and low flicker noise down-conversion mixers. For the mixer, an inductor is included to resonate out parasitic tail capacitances in the transconductance stage at the operating frequency, thereby improves the flicker noise performance of the mixer, and the overall noise performance of the front-end. The receiver RF front-end has 6.5 dB noise figure, - 13 dBm input IP3, and voltage conversion gain of 20 dB with the power consumption of 30 mW.

  • 본 논문에서는 저잡음 BJT를 만들기 위하여 HCI gettering oxidation 방법을 적용하였다. HCI 양의 변화에 따른 플리키 잡음 spectral intensity의 변화를 측정한 결과 BJT의 플리키 잡음이 표면 상태에 의존하고 있음과 저잡음 BJT를 만들기 위한 oxidation 공정의 gettering 조건은 HCI 양이 2%일 때 최적임을 알 수 있었다. 또 에미터 광산 공정에서 형성된 PSG층의 gettering 효과는 HCI gettering 결과에 비해 미약함도 알게 되었다.

  • This paper presents the design and analysis of 2.45GHz Low-IF Mixer using CMOS 0.18um. The Mixer is implemented by using the Gilbert-type configuration, current bleeding technique, and the resonating technique for the tail capacitance. And the design of this Double Balance Mixer is based on its lineaity since it is important in the interference cancellation system. The low flicker noise mixer is implemented by incorporating a double balanced Gilber-type configuration, the RF leakage-less current bleeding technique, and Cp resonating technique. The proposed mixer has a simulated conversion gain of 16dB a simulated IIP3 of -3.3dBm and P1dB is -19dBm. A simulated noise figure of 6.9dB at l0MHz and a flicker corner frequency of 510kHz while consuming only 10.65mW od DC power. The layout of Mixer for one-chip design in a 0.18-um TSMC process has 0.474mm$\times$0.39 mm size.

Flicker-reduced memory compression for a volume-zone liquid crystal display overdrive

  • The memory compression algorithm CCC-LCP (color-count-controlled local color palette) reduces flicker in the liquid crystal display (LCD) overdrive. Its compression ratio is 1:5.4 for 10-bit images, with a 33 dB PSNR peak signal-to-noise ratio and with five times flicker reduction compared with the block truncation coding. The authors' two-alternative forced choice subjective tests proposed two new soundness properties, the 'CMP harmlessness' and 'OD non-lost (or OD liveliness)', to clarify the functional interaction between the overdrive functionality OD and the compression functionality CMP. The tests verified that CCC-LCP is practically applicable (at a 1.2H viewing distance threshold) for 42" 37-ppi WXGA TVs.

Nano-CMOSFET를 위한 플라즈마-질화막의 초기 산화막 성장방법에 따른 소자 특성과 저주파 잡음 특성 분석 (Dependence of Low-frequency Noise and Device Characteristics on Initial Oxidation Method of Plasma-nitride Oxide for Nano-scale CMOSFET)

  • In this paper, two kinds of initial oxidation methods i.e., SLTO(Slow Low Temperature Oxidation: $700^{\circ}C$) and RTO(Rapid Thermal Oxidation: $850^{\circ}C$) are applied prior to the plasma nitridation for ultra thin oxide of RPNO (Remote Plasma Nitrided Oxide). It is observed that SLTO has superior characteristics to RTO such as lower SS(Sub-threshold Slope) and improved Ion-Ioff characteristics. Low frequency noise characteristics of SLTO also showed better than RTO both in linear and saturation regime. It is shown that flicker noise is dominated by carrier number fluctuation in the channel region. Therefore, SLTO is promising for nano-scale CMOS technology with ultra thin gate oxide.

OOK변조된 가시광 데이터전송에서 바이트반전을 이용한 플리커 방지 (Flicker Prevention Using Byte-Inversion in OOK Modulated Visible Light Data Transmission)

  • 본 논문에서는 가시광을 사용하는 데이터 통신에서 광원의 플리커를 방지하기 위하여 On-off keying(OOK) 변조와 바이트반전 전송방식을 사용하였다. 송신부에서는 100 kHz의 구형파 전압을 부반송파로 사용하여 9.6 kbps의 기저대역 non-return-to-zero (NRZ) 입력데이터를 OOK 변조하고, 데이터의 비트열 형태에 관계없이 LED의 평균 광전력이 항상 일정하게 유지되도록 바이트반전 신호를 부가하여 전송하였다. 수신부에서는 대역통과 필터를 사용하여 주변의 120 Hz 잡음광의 간섭을 소거하고 OOK복조기를 사용하여 NRZ 형태의 원 신호를 복구하였다. 이러한 구조는 가시광 램프의 조명을 이용하여 근거리의 무선데이터 네트워크를 구축하는 데에 유용하다.
