제논 혼합가스를 이용한 고효율 면광원과 국부적 밝기 제어 방식 (High Luminous Efficiency Flat Light Source with Xe mixture Gas Discharge and Areal Brightness Control Method)

  • A Highly efficient Mercury-free Flat Fluorescent Lamp (MFFL) with dielectric barrier Xe gas discharge was developed for an alternative of conventional line-type Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps (CCFLs) which shows a wide voltage margin and a stable discharge operation for diffuse glow discharge with an application of a auxiliary electrode. Electro-optic characteristics of the MFFL were examined through the changes in ambient temperature, total pressure and Xe partial pressure. the single cell is expanded into a multi-structured configuration to realize a large sized lamp by a simple repetition of the single cells, and a new driving scheme is proposed for an adaptive brightness control using dual auxiliary electrodes and bi-polar drive scheme. In addition, interesting application of this ultra high luminance flat lamp by the optimization of the gas condition and the pattern of the rear phosphor layer is suggested as a good alternative of daylight lamp source

  • 현재 사용하고 있는 LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) Backlight용 램프는 주로 CCFL(Cold Cathod Fluorescent Lamp)과 EEFL(External Electrode Fluorescent Lamp)이 사용되고 있다. 하지만 이 램프는 수은을 사용하여 RoHS(the Restriction of e use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment)규제가 점점 강화되면서 사용이 제한되고 있으며, 이에 따라 수은을 사용하지 않는 램프의 제작이 불가피해지고 있다. 또한 LCD TV는 CRT와 PDP와는 다른 LCD만의 Hold-type 특성과 LC(Liquid Crystal)의 응답속도로 인하여 Motion Blur현상이 나타나는 단점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 RoHS 규제를 만족시키는 무수은 면광원 램프를 구동하기 위한 인버터를 제안한다. 제안한 인버터는 포워드 방식을 사용하여 반도체 소자 및 자기 소자의 수를 줄여서 구동회로가 간단하다. 또한 면광원 램프를 세로방향으로 6블록으로 나누어 스캔구동을 하여 Motion Blur현상을 저감 시켰다. 끝으로 실험을 통하여 제안한 인버터의 유용성을 입증하였다.

  • We developed a Flat Fluorescent Lamp(FFL) with a high luminance by using the same discharge mode as PDP. Our FFL has the simple and unique structure where the glass substrates are used as dielectric layers. The panel has a striped line shape of 7 inch diagonal size. The Xe-Ne-He mixture gas was used to generate the plasma, and the gas discharge characteristics under both total gas pressure and partial gas pressure were investigated. The panel showed a maximum high luminance $7,270cd/m^2$ under bias of 20KHz pulse of 3KV.

  • We proposed a new Mercury-free Flat Fluorescent Lamp (MFFL) for LCD backlight which shows a wide, stable operating voltage margin, high luminance and efficiency. In this paper, we expanded the single cell with 4 inch diagonal size into the multi-cell for the large size LCD-TV backlight application, examined its operating characteristics and proposed a driving scheme for 2-bit areal selective dimming control.

Properties of Xe plasma flat fluorescent lamp by screen printing

  • In this study, a plasma flat fluorescent lamp having a new structure was fabricated by screen printing technique. Coplanar types of silver electrodes with a dielectric layer were screen-printed on a rear glass plate, and then fired at $550^{\circ}C$ and $580^{\circ}C$, respectively. Phosphor was spin-coated on the dielectric layer with firing at $490^{\circ}C$. Several types of lamps were designed and its properties wee investigated with electrode shape, gas pressure, etc.

  • In this paper, we proposed a surface discharge FFL with the new electrode structure like the needle shaped electrode as the variation of cell structure to high luminance and low power consumption. In comparison with different electrode structure it has low discharge voltage and current and good optical characteristics. So it has better discharge characteristics than different surface discharge FFL and can be fungible of backlight as a lighting source in LCDs.

  • LCD panels are increasingly used to show moving image material, for example in LCD television sets. However, moving images become blurred on LCD panels. One of the causes of motion blur is the slow reaction of LC(liquid crystal) cell to change in the pixel value. Another cause of motion blur is the hold-type characteristic of the LCD panel, during the frame time the image is shown continuously. This type of motion blur can be reduced with a scanning backlight. We have designed and fabricated a scanning backlight system that solves the hold-type characteristic problem in a way that Flat fluorescent lamp divided 6 blocks was scanned 60Hz.

폐디스플레이 CCFL에 존재하는 형광체 내 희토류 원소 회수 기술 동향 분석 (Current Technology Trends Analysis on the Recovery of Rare Earth Elements from Fluorescent Substance in the Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps of Waste Flat Panel Displays)

  • Flat panel display devices are mainly used as information display devices in the 21st century. The worldwide waste flat panel displays are expected at 2-3 million units but most of them are land-filled for want of a proper recycling technology More specifically, rare earth metals of La and Eu are used as fluorescent materials of Cold Cathode Flourscent Lamp(CCFL)s in the waste flat panel displays and they are critically vulnerable and irreplaceable strategic mineral resources. At present, most of the waste CCFLs are disposed of by land-filling and incineration and proper recovery of 80-plus tons per annum of the rare earth fluorescent materials will significantly contribute to steady supply of them. A dearth of Korean domestic research results on recovery and recycling of rare earth elements in the CCFLs prompts to initiate this status report on overseas research trends and noteworthy research results in related fields.

대화면 Backlight를 위한 EE리 구동용 압전 인버터 설계 및 분석 (The Design and An릴ysis of the Piezoelectric Inverter to Drive EEFL for a Large Screen)

  • 현재 LCD(Liquid Crystal Display)용 광원으로서 주로 냉음극 방전램프(CCFL : Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp)가 사용되고 있으며, 그 외 LED를 비롯해서 외부전극 방전램프(EEFL: External Electrode Fluorescent Lamp), 면광원(FFL : Flat Fluorescent Lamp), 전계 방출램프(FEL : Field Emission Lamp)등 다른 광원에 대한 적용도 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 멀티램프 구동이 유리하여 인버터 개수를 줄일 수 있는 장점을 가지고 있는 EEFL을 사용하였으며, 변압기의 자체 손실을 줄이고 소형화가 가능하며, 높은 승압 비를 갖는 압전 변압기를 병렬로 연결하여 멀티램프 구동이 가능하도록 하였다. 최적의 EEFL 구동회로를 구성하기 위해서 Push-Pull 타입의 압전 인버터를 설계하였으며, 설계된 인버터 회로에 대한 시뮬레이션 분석을 수행하고, 향후 여러 형태의 구동 방법을 적용하므로 서 압전 변압기로도 대화면 멀티 램프 구동용 인버터의 제작이 가능함을 제시하였다.

훌륭한 휘도 균일도를 갖는 LCD 후면 광원용 평판 형광램프 (Flat Fluorescent Lamp with Good Uniformity for LCD Back-Light)

  • 본 논문은 가스의 방전 현상으로부터 발생되는 자외선을 이용하는 평판 형광 램프의 주파수 특성에 대하여 연구하였다. 램프는 절연층, 형광층, 가스층으로 구성된다. 램프의 특성에서 불꽃 전압과 휘도 균일 전압은 주파수의 증가에 따라 감소하였다. 이것은 가스 갭내에서의 공간 전하 효과로 설명이 가능하였다. FFL의 휘도는 700Vrms, 80 kHz의 구동 조건에서 2700cd/$m^2$ 을 얻었으며, 최대 휘도 효율은 5 lm/W를 보였다.
