A general theory is developed which enables closed-cup flash points of mixtures of flammable and non-flammable liquid to be estimated from a knowledge of a certain properties of flammability diagram by thermodynamic method. The estimated equations is shown the effect of both the flame inhibiting properties of the vapor of the non-flammable component and the relative volatility of that component. The vapor phase flame inhibition effect results in a even greater elevation of flash points than the rotative volatility of that component. Especially in cases of similar vapor phase flame inhibition of the non-flammable component, the rotative volatility is affected greater elevation of flash points(extinguishing effect).

The purpose of this study is to applied reinforcement method at the joint part of the sandwich panel. Becasue the joint part of the sandwich panel has a disadvantage that flame spreads fast inside steel plates in the event of fire, leading to a big fire rapidly. In this study, the combustion performance was measured through KS F ISO 13784-1 "Reaction-to-fire tests for sandwich panel building systems" according to the application of reinforcement method to prevent flame from being brought into the internal joint of the sandwich panel. For the reinforcement inside the panel, the tape produced using expanded graphite-based heat-expandable glass fiber was attached. As a result, it was confirmed that the prevention of flame from being brought into the internal joint could delay the flash over time and the collapse of the test specimen.
The effect of secondary flow on both methane/air and propane/air premixed flame was investigated experimentally. By changing the radius of curvature, various flame behavior was observed. In the V-bend nozzles, flame surface is deformed from axisymmetry. As the exit velocity increased, flame lifted off partially. When the radius of curvature of the V-bend increased, the region where premixed flame is entirely on the rim increased. Since the axial velocity field is changed due to the secondary flow effect, comparison of V-bend and straight tube with the same diameter shows larger V-bend nozzle exit velocity for both flash back and flame blowout. The flame characteristics are mapped with a equivalence ratio, a velocity, and a nozzle radius of curvature. To identify physical reasoning on the flame surface deformation, numerical calculations are conducted. OH radical distributions in flames are visualized by PLIF technique.
In this paper, computer simulation was used for researching into the estimate of flash over result from compartment fire and the characteristics operation of sprinkler RTI. Computing simulation, we analyzed and verified the path of the flame in compartment fire and the adaptation of sprinkler system concerned with sprinkler RTI.

Two pure fuel oils(#1 oil, #6 oil), theree pure alcohols (methanol, ethanol, propanol) were tested for the fuel characteristics such as miscibility (that established which pure fuels and fuel mixtures could be fired in the boiler), flash point, viscosity. Specific target of the study besides the oil/alcohols or oil/alcohol mixture without any modification and with safety. #1 oil could be mixed without any problems at all concentrations with two of the alcohols; these were the ethanol and propanol. However, miscibility of #6 oil with any alcohols and #1 oil with methanol was not possible and very limited in this study. The measurements of flash point and viscosity for the mixtures were done for the comparisons with the pure fuels. There was a marked change of flame shape and flame luminosity as the alcohol content of the mixtures was increased. The mixture flame shortened and became non-luminous compared with a pure fuel oil flame.
Many fire-fighters suffer from the burn injuries, and the severe burns are the most catastrophic injury a person can survive, resulting in pain, emotional stress, and tremendous economic costs. It is important to understand the physiology of burns for prevention from skin burns and a successful treatment of a burn patient. But a few researches have been presented because the complex physical phenomena of our inside body like non-linearity characteristics of human skin make them difficult. Thus in this study, thermal analyses of biological tissues exposed to a flash fire causing severe tissue damage were studied by using a finite difference method based on the Pennes bio-heat equation. The several previous models for skin thermo-physical properties were summarized, and the calculated values with those models of tissue injury were compared with the results obtained by the previous experiment for low heat flux conditions. The skin models with good agreement could be found. Also, the skin burn injury prediction results with the best model for high heat flux conditions by flash flame were suggested.
A sandwich panel is a composite material composed of a double-sided noncombustible material and insulation core which is used in the inner, outer walls, and roof structure of a building. Despite its excellent insulation performance, light weight and excellent constructability, a flame is brought into the inside of the panel through the joint between the panels, melting the core easily and causing casualties and property damage due to the rapid spread of flame. The current Building Law provides that the combustion performance of finishing materials for buildings should be determined using a fire test on a small amount of specimen and only a product that passes the stipulated performance standard should be used. This law also provides that in the case of finishing materials used for the outer walls of buildings, only materials that secured noncombustible or quasi-noncombustible performance should be used or flame spread prevention (FSP) should be installed. The purpose of this study was to confirm the difference between the dangers of horizontal and vertical fire spread by applying FSP, which is applied to finishing materials used for the outer walls of buildings limitedly to a sandwich panel building. Therefore, the combustion behavior and effects on the sandwich panel according to the application of FSP were measured through the construction to block the spread of flame between the panels using a full scale fire according to the test method specified in ISO 13784-1 and a metallic structure. The construction of FSP on the joint between the panels delayed the spread of flame inside the panels and the flash over time was also delayed, indicating that it could become an important factor for securing the fire safety of a building constructed using complex materials.
Lean laminar premixed propane and methane flames which were anchored by a hydrogen-pilot flame in a tube were investigated experimentally. The flame shapes were observed by varying mean velocity from 10cm/s to 140cm/s and equivalence ratio from 0.45 to 0.8. In this study, behaviors of flames are divided into five regions such as tail-out, flash-back, flickering, stable and vibrating flames with respect to the mean velocity and the equivalence ratio. Although the flames are unstable in both the flickering and the vibrating region, they have different characteristics such as the frequency, sound generation and creation process of flame curvature. The flickering region exists near the flammability limit and the flame flickers in a frequency of about 10Hz. When flame front is bended, the propane flame front is straightened and the methane flame front is bended more by thermo-diffusive instability. In the vibrating region, the flame vibrates emitting audible sound in a frequency of about 100Hz. In the boundary of vibrating region, the vibration of flame changes between two modes such as single frequency vibration and dual frequency vibration. Increase and decrease of vibration in each mode are determined by thermo-acoustic instability.
In this study, the difference of flame stability zone for natural gases from producing districts was studied experimentally using a new type of flame stability diagram. The similarity of stable flame zone between a domestic appliance and an interchangeability test(IT) burner is also examined. As a result, the stable flame zones expressed by limits curves of flame lifting and yellow tipping show the similar results in a domestic gas range and IT burner. Furthermore, IT burner can reproduce the flash back phenomena and show the distinct difference of fuel type as the burner diameter is increased. To suggest the new type of flame stability diagram in the respect of fuel interchangeability, the air flowrate and Wobbe fuel flowrate were adopted as axis coordinates. It can be identified that the new diagram can provide the useful information on the difference of flame stability zone, heat input rate and air-fuel ratio when a fuel is altered to other fuels under the identical operating conditions. Finally, the stable flame zones for natural gas of 6 type are compared, and the detailed information to use as the interchangeability fuels of standard natural gas is provided using the new type of flame stability diagram.
Behaviors of lean premixed flame of propane/air and methane/air flame anchored by a pilot flame in a tube were investigated experimentally varying the mean velocity from 10 to 140 cm/s and the equivalence ratio from 0.45 to 0.8. Behaviors of both flames are divided into five regions of stable, flash-back, tail-out, flickering and vibrating. General characteristics of each region and Le number effect are investigated. Two main instabilities, flickering and vibration, are both unstable but the instability mechanism, the frequency and the amplitude of pressure fluctuation are different. In the edge of the vibrating region, pressure fluctuation repeats generation and extinction. Repeated growth and decrease of the amplitude of pressure fluctuation are explained by Rayleigh#s index.
