Contraction of Alpha-nickel Hydroxide Layers by Excess Coulombic Attraction of Anions (전기화학적으로 형성된 알파 상 니켈 수산화물의 층간 거리에 미치는 음이온의 영향 연구)

  • In this study computer assisted instruction materials for the ‘Solution' chapter in high school chemistry II textbook were developed based on a view of particle and analyze the effect of the materials on 10th and 11th high school students. The contents of developed materials are dissolution, vapor pressure, the change of boiling point and freezing point, osmosis, and so on which are the major contents of Solution chapter in high school chemistry II textbook. Materials were developed with using animation and simulation for students understanding of the phenomena with a particle view point. Many phenomena in a solution were not simplified by colligative property of solution, but tried to explain by the concept of attraction between solute and solvent molecules. This computer assisted learning materials were developed using Flash 5.0 and Flash 6.0 Action Script. Educational effects of the materials on 10th and 11th grade students represented statistically meaningful increase of concept understanding. Especially the materials were effective to the transition stage or formal stage students in 10th grade and formal stage or the natural science major students in 11th grade.

Design and Effects of Science Simulation Applications Using Flash and ActionScript 3.0: In the Composition of Material Chapter in Middle School Science Textbooks (Flash와 Actionscript 3.0을 이용한 과학 시뮬레이션 앱의 디자인 및 효과 -중학교 과학 '물질의 구성' 단원을 중심으로-)

  • Although a simulation is proposed as a candidate for alternative contents of inquiry activities, design cases focused on the characteristic of science education are rare. This study suggested the definition and requirements of science simulation to clarify science subject-specific design and set up the design guidelines to consider usability. Then the science simulation was developed in the form of an app for mobile devices, where 'Flash and Actionscript 3.0' was selected as a development tool for compatibility, functionality, ease of use and optimization for mobile devices with educational applicability in mind. In effect, six science simulation apps were prepared for seven classes of inquiry activity in 10 science classes on the chapter of 'composition of material' in middle school science 2 textbooks. In this regard, the main advantages of the simulation apps expected from each design characteristic are also suggested in this article. In the implementation of the science simulation apps, educational effects were investigated based on the statistical comparison, while 134 students in the second grade in a coeducational middle school, Gyeonggi-do participated as an intervention group and a control group. Our results showed that the scores of academic achievement and affective test in the intervention group were significantly higher than those of the control group (p <.05). In the questionnaire survey on usability, most students responded positively to the design of the science simulation apps. This study will contribute to expanding the horizon of design about science simulation as a design case in science education.

Performance Evaluation of Web-based Cloud Services in a Browser-Scripting Approach

  • Cloud services are often provisioned to their customers using user-friendly web browsers with flexible and rich plug-in environments. Delay is one of the fundamental performance metrics of these web-based services. Commonly-used network measurement tools usually only measure network delay and it may be difficult to infer the web-delay performance using only network layer measurement approaches. In this paper, we propose to evaluate the application layer delay in a browser-based network measurement platform using engineered scripts. We conducted a delay measurement study using instrumented scripts in the proposed browser-based measurement platform. Our investigation included a comparison study of three browser-scripting delay measurement methods, including Java applet, JSP and Flash ActionScript. We developed a browser-based delay measurement testbed over the Internet so that different delay measurement tools could be evaluated in the same real network environment including typical Internet paths and the Baidu cloud. We also decomposed the components of the end-to-end delay process of the above measurements to reveal the difference and relationship between the network-layer delay and the application-layer delay. Our measurement results characterize the stochastic properties of the application-layer delay over real Internet paths, and how these properties vary from the underlying network layer delay. This browser-scripting measurement approach can be easily deployed on different cloud service platforms to inspect their application-layer delay performance between end clients and the cloud platforms. Our measurement results may provide insights into designing new cloud services with enhanced quality-of-experience perceived by cloud users.

Analysis and Adaptation of Strategy for Designing Web Interaction through Analyzing Cases of Interactive Website (웹 인터랙티비티의 사례분석을 통한 인터랙션 디자인 전략 분석 및 개발 사례)

  • As web-based programming tools(such as flash action script, javascript, java and etc.) has been improved and it has become more aware to take interactivity importantly as users' whole experience, web sites have evolved from the form of webzine to the form of interactive application that displays more interactive interface and gives instant feedbacks for the users' inputs. Web, rather than software, is used to execute relatively easy tasks by users of various levels, so that web sites could give more fun and less cognitive burden by supporting users' tasks in more interactive way. This paper examined design strategies to make more interactive web by figuring out definition of web interaction as users' experience and by analyzing web interaction design trends from cases of interactive web sites. The ultimate objective of this paper is show how design strategies can be adapted in the web interaction design process. Thus, case study of designing interactive bookshell in E-book site was done and is demonstrating one way of adapting strategies to design web interaction.
