연소실 압력변동이 화염안정화와 배출특성에 미치는 영향 (Influence of changing Combustor Pressure on Flame Stabilization and Emission Charncteristics)

  • Influence of changing combustor pressure on flame stabilization and emission index in the swirl-stabilized flame was investigated. The combustor pressure was controlled by suction fan at combustor exit. Pressure index ($P^{\ast}$=Pabs/Patm), where Pabs and Patm indicated the absolute pressure and atmosphere pressure, respectively, was controlled in the range of 0.7${\sim}$1.3 for each equivalence ratio conditions. The flammable limits of swirl flames were largely influenced by changing combustor pressure and they showed similar tendency with laminar flames. NOx emission index decreased with decreasing pressure index for overall equivalence ratio conditions. R.m.s. of pressure fluctuations is increased with decreasing combustor pressure. This flame fluctuation caused incomplete combustion, hence CO emission index increased. These oscillating flames were measured by simultaneous $CH^{\ast}$ chemiluminescence time-series visualization and pressure fluctuation measurement.

  • Flame behaviors in meso-scale rectangular channels are largely influenced by heat recirculation through wall. In order to investigate the effects of wall thermal property on the heat recirculation and flame behaviors, meso-scale rectangular channels, of which upper and lower walls are made of quartz, stainless steel and silicon carbide and front and rear walls of quartz for flame visualization, were fabricated in this study. As a result, characteristic mixture velocities of propane-air flame, such as transition, stationary, and instability onset velocities, were measured for each channel and various mixture conditions. The results show that thermal conductivity has a close relationship to the characteristic velocities.

  • For investigating the effect of fuel stratification on flame propagation, initial flame development and propagation were visualized under different axially stratified states in a port injection SI engine. Stratification was controlled by the combination of the port swirl ratio and injection timing. Experiments were performed in an optical single cylinder engine modified from a production engine and images were captured through the quartz window mounted in the piston by an intensified CCD camera. Firstly in this paper, the characteristics under no port-generated swirl condition, i.e. normal conventional case was studied. Under various stratified conditions, flame images were captured at the pre-set crank angles. These were averaged and processed to characterize the flames propagation. The flame stability was estimated by the weighted average of flame area and luminosity. The stability was also evaluated through the standard deviation of flame area and propagation distance, and mean absolute deviation of propagating direction. Results show that stratification state according to injection timing do not affect on the direction of flame propagation. The flame development and the initial flame stability are strongly dependent on the stratified conditions and the initial flame stability is closely related to the engine stability and lean misfire limit.

  • The presenet research attempts to examine the combustion characteristics and the structure of the flame in turbulent premixed flames and thus enhance the combustion performance that leads to the design of the effective combustion system (untilizing LNG). Following experimental investigations for several stabilized premixed flames were attempted to identify the interactive mechanism between flame structures and flow fields; Visualization by Schlieren method, measurement of flow velocity by LDV, detection of ion current by ion probe, measurement of fluctuating temperature by thermocouple having compensation circuit, average values with respect to time of fluctuating amount for flow velocity, temperature, ion current, etc., variable RMS values, PDFs, autocorrelation, crosscorrelation, spatial macroscale, power spectra, and velocity scale. Continuing the authors published studies whose flame dominated by coherent structures and the characteristics of combustion reaction for irregular three dimensional flame and stabilized flame by step were investigated with obtained experimental quantities. Results of this research are following : The most turbulent flames support the structure of a Wrinkled laminar flame or laminar flamelets. It also observed that combustion reaction is related to small tubulence microscales of the turbulent flow fields closly.

  • Dump combustor is a combustor having a dump plane to make coherent structures. A non-premixed flame dump combustor of simple geometry was constructed. We conducted basic experiments such as frequency response on the combustor to confirm the characteristics of the phenomena as a typical dump combustion and unsteady combustion. Furthermore we visualized the flame front behavior by CH chemiluminescence and high speed motion analysis. In spite of the lack of another data such as velocity, species concentration and temperature, the results showed not only the periodic motion of flame front but the ignition process of vortex ring flame. Also we could check out Rayleigh criterion by combining the visualization data with the pressure data.

직접분사식 디젤기관의 화염 속에서 생성되는 그을음의 특성에 관한 연구 (A study on the characteristics of soots formation in spray flame for DI diesel engine)

  • To analyze a formation process of the soots in spray flame in the combustion chamber, an optically accessible DI Diesel engine was used for visualization. The images of the flames and soots were visualiaed with high speed camera by Schlieren method and Light extinction method. The spray flame and soot images on the films were analyzed at the various engine operating conditions. Soot distributed widely in spray flame and its concentration was about $100g/m^3$ at the position close by nozzle tip of spray flame region, however it decreased below $20g/m^3$ at the corner of combustion chamber due to soot oxidation.

  • 본 연구에서는 연소 불안정성의 능동적 제어를 위해 정상초음파장이 예혼합화염의 거동에 미치는 영향을 규명하기 위한 실험 결과를 제시한다. 화염구조변이를 관찰하기 위해 슐리렌 기법을 이용하였으며, 초기압력 및 연소챔버 개폐 유무에 따라 화염선단의 형태 및 화염 전파속도를 고찰하였다. 정상초음파장에 의한 화염선단의 찌그러짐이 관찰되었고, 반사파와 정상초음파의 영향으로 연꽃모양의 화염(lotus flame)이 형성되는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • 정상초음파장이 개재하는 메탄/공기 예혼합화염의 전파특성에 대한 당량비의 영향을 실험적 연구결과로 제시한다. 화염구조 가시화는 슐리렌 기법을 이용하였으며, 이미지 후처리를 통해 화염 전파 거동을 면밀히 관찰하였다. 정상초음파에 의한 화염 구조 변화가 연소반응을 촉진시켜 화염 전파속도를 증가시키는 것을 알 수 있었으며, 당량비가 증가할수록 정상초음파에 의한 화염전파속도의 증분은 감소하게 되고, 속도변화가 미미한 당량비 구간이 존재한다는 사실을 확인할 수 있었다.
