In nuclear power plants, the flow rate information is a major indicator of the performance of rotating equipment such as pumps, and is a very important one required for facility operation and maintenance. To measure a flow rate, various types of methods have been developed and used. Among them, the differential pressure type using orifice and the direct doppler type using ultrasonic waves are the most commonly used. However, these flow rate measurement methods have limitations in installation, conditions and status of the measuring part, etc. To solve this problem, we have studied a new technique for measuring flow rate from scratch. In this paper, we have devised a technique to estimate the flow rate using an average moving velocity of large-scale eddy in turbulence that occurs in the piping flow field. The velocity of the large-scale eddy can be measured using the pressure fluctuation signals on the inner surface of the pipe. To estimate the flow rate, at first a cross-correlation function is applied to the two pressure fluctuation signals located at different positions in the down stream for calculating the time delay between the moving eddies. In order to validate the proposed flow rate estimation method, CFD analyses for the internal turbulence flow in pipe are conducted with a fixed flow condition, where the pressure fluctuation signals on the pipe inner surface are simulated. And then the average flow velocity of the large scale eddy is to be estimated. The estimated flow velocity is turned out to be similar to the fixed (known) flow rate.

The dielectric permittance and the dielectric loss factor of several lubricating oils were measured at frequencies from 100 Hz to 1.5 MHz. The measurements were carried out under atmospheric pressure as a function of temperature and under fixed temperature as a function of pressure. Temperature and pressure dependence of dielectric relaxation time were investigated. The temperature dependence of relaxation time obeyed the Vogel-Fulcher-Tammann (VFT) law. We modified the VFT equation in order to express the dielectric relaxation time as a function of temperature and pressure. Furthermore. by taking into consideration the similarity of the temperature and pressure dependence between dielectric relaxation and mechanical relaxation. the prediction of high-pressure viscosity were conducted. The predicted results were compared with the viscosity data obtained from the falling-sphere type viscometer.
Experiments have been performed to test the analytical tools developed concurrently for the motion-related unsteady pressure in annular passages. The outer cylindrical body was oscillated by a shaker in either rocking motion about a hinge-point or lateral translation motion. In the equilibrium configuration the two bodies are either concentric or eccentric, in the plane of oscillation or normal to it. The unsteady pressure generated by the oscillatory motion with low amplitudes (displacement/radius) was measured on wall of the fixed inner cylinder at various axial and azimuthal locations. The unsteady pressure were compared with theoretical predictions, and agreement was found to be within 10%. Experiments have been shown that the effect of flow velocity on the unsteady pressure is minimal and the pressure increases more or less with oscillatory motion, for low flow velocities (Re = 2 900).
This study deals with a flow and pressure ripple characteristics for a hydrostatic transmission(HST) consisting of a vari-able axial piston pump connected in an open loop to a fixed displacement axial piston motor. These flow ripples produced by pump and motor in HST interacts with the source impedances of the pump or motor and dynamic characteristics of the connected pipeline, and results in a pressure ripples, Pressure ripples. Pressure ripples in HSP is major source of vibration, which can lead to fatigue failure of components and cause noise. In this paper, the flow ripples generated by a swash plate type axial piston pump or motor in HST are measured by making use of hydraulic pipeline dynamics and the measured pressure data at two points along the pipeline. By using the self-checking functions, the validity of the method us investigated by comparison with the measured and estimated pressure ripples at the halfway section of the pipeline, and good agreement is achieved.
This paper deals with pressure ripple and noise reduction characteristics for a hydrostatic transmission(HST) consisting of a variable axial piston pump connected in an open loop to a fixed displacement axial piston motor. Pressure ripples in HST is major source of vibration, which can lead to fatigue failure of components and cause noise. In order to reduce the pressure ripple, an annular tube type hydraulic filter proposes to absorb pressure ripples with the high frequencies components to achieve better noise attenuation in HST. The basic principle tube is applied to propagation of pressure wave, reflection, absorption in cross section of discontinuity and resonance in the hydraulic pipeline. It is experimently confirmed that a hydraulic filter is absorbed to be about 30∼40dB of pressure ripple with high frequencies. These results will assist in modeling and design of noise reduction in hydraulic control systems, and here, should provide a means of designing a quieter HST.
Finite element analysis was performed to evaluate the integrity of the tubes in the fixed tubesheet of horizontal type heat exchanger under operating condition. For the finite element analysis of the heat exchanger, tubes and tubesheets were equivalently modeled with concentroidal hexagonal columns and solid plates having equivalent properties for the convenience of finite element modeling, respectively. Load combination of tube pressure and thermal expansion most likely to precipitate possible failure of the tubes was selected and applied to the finite element analysis. The compressive stresses of the tubes were calculated based on displacements of each tube, which were obtained from anile element analysis. Finally, the maximum tube stress was compared with the design criterion of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section VIII.
A nozzle with vortex generator was used to develop the low pressure nozzle with high atomization performance and the nozzle atomized the liquid by centrifugal shear forces. In order to analyze the atomization characteristics, a shadowgraphy method was used and the measurement of droplet size was performed by using laser diffraction analyzer. The liquid injection pressure was fixed as 0.03 bar which is very low pressure and the gas injection pressures were changed from 0 bar to 2.0 bar. As a result, the breakup was achieved at the air injection pressure of 0.25 bar and over. The nozzle with the orifice diameter of 0.4 mm and the orifice gap of 0.25 mm presented small droplet diameters under 50 at the air injection pressure of 0.75 bar.
In this paper, it is proposed that the method for constituting pressure control system controlled by Direct Drive Valve (DDV). The DDV has a pressure-feedback-loop itself. It can eliminate non-linearity and uncertainty oi hydraulic system such as uncertain discharge coefficient and change of bulk-modulus. However, the internal feedback-loop can not compensate them perfectly. And fixed gain of the DDV's internal feedback-loop is not proper to apply it through wide pressure range. The steady state error and nonlinear characteristic of transient behaviour is observed in the experiment. So another controller is needed for the desirable performance of the system. To compose the controller, the pressure control system controlled by DDV is modeled mathematically and the parameters of the model are identified using signal-compression method. Then sliding mode controller is designed based on mathematical model. Desirable performance of the pressure control system controlled by DDV is obtained.
Viscous solutions of supersonic jet impinging on a flat plate normal to the flow are simulated using three-dimensional Navier-Stokes solver. The jet impinging flow structure exhibits such complex nature as shock shell, plate shock and Mach disk depending on the flow parameters. Among others, the dominant parameters are the ratio of the nozzle exit pressure to the ambient pressure and the distance between the nozzle exit plane and the impinging plane. In the present study, the nozzle contour and the pressure ratio are held fixed, while the jet impinging distance is varied to illuminate the characteristics of the jet plume with the distance. As the plate is placed close to the nozzle at 3D high, the computed wall pressure at or near the jet center oscillates with large amplitude with respect to the mean value. Here D is the nozzle exit diameter. The amplitude of wall pressure fluctuations subsides as the distance increases, but the maximum pressure level at the plate is achieved when the distance is about 4D high. The frequency of the wall pressure is estimated at 6.0 kHz, 9.3 kHz, and 10.0 kHz as the impinging distance varies from 3D, 4D, to 6D, respectively.
