  • In this paper, we consider a channel ordering problem that seeks to maximize the service quality in mobile radio communication systems. If a base station receives a connection request from a mobile user, one of the empty channels belonging to the base station is assigned to the mobile user. In case multiple empty channels are available, we can choose one that incurs least interference with other channels assigned to adjacent base stations. However, note that a pair of channels that are not separated enough generates interference only if both channels are assigned to mobile users. That is, interference between channels may vary depending on the channel assignment sequence for each base station and on the distribution of mobile users. To find a channel assignment sequence that seems to generate minimum interference, we develop an optimization model considering various scenarios of mobile user distribution. Simulation results show that channel assignment sequence determined by the scenario based optimization model significantly reduces the interference provided that scenarios and interference cost are properly generated.

  • A new algorithm for frequency channel assignment in high capacity cellular mobile communication systems is proposed. The algorithm is the advanced type of the fixed channel assignment scheme. It enables calls having all nominal channels busy to be served by adjacent cells have idle channels. Thus, it considerably reduces the blocking probability compared with the fixed channel assignment. Simulation has been performed for a 49-cell system having uniform traffic density hexagonal array as a representative system lay out. Results showed that new algorithm is better than the fixed channel assignment scheme in high capacity cellular mobile communication systems.

  • In this paper, we consider a channel ordering problem that seeks to minimize the total interference in mobile radio networks. If a base station receives connection request from a mobile user, one of the empty channels that are fixed to the base station is assigned to the mobile user. Among several channels available, we can choose one that seems to make least interference with other channels assigned to adjacent base stations. However, a pair of channels that are not separated enough do not generate interference if both of them are not simultaneously used by mobile users. That is, interference between channels may vary depending on the channel assignment sequence for each base station and on the distribution of mobile users. To find a channel assignment sequence that seems to generate minimum interference, we develop an optimization model considering various scenarios of mobile user distribution. Simulation results show that channel assignment sequence determined by the scenario based optimization model significantly reduces the interference provided that scenarios and interference costs are properly generated.

  • The recently proposed "Potential-based" reinforcement learning (RL) method made it possible to combine multiple learnings and expert advices as supervised knowledge within an RL framework. The effectiveness of the approach has been established by a theoretical convergence guarantee to an optimal policy. In this paper, the potential-based RL method is applied to a dynamic channel assignment (DCA) problem in a cellular networks. It is empirically shown that the potential-based RL assigns channels more efficiently than fixed channel assignment, Maxavail, and Q-learning-based DCA, and it converges to an optimal policy more rapidly than other RL algorithms, SARSA(0) and PRQ-learning.

  • Due to insufficient available bandwidth resources and the continuously growing demand for cellular communication services, the channel assignment problem has become increasingly important. To trace the optimal assignment, several heuristic strategies have been proposed. So far, most of them focus on the small-scale systems containing no more than 25 cells and they use an anachronistic cost model, which does not satisfy the requirements ity. Solving the small-scale channel assignment problems could not be applied into existing large scale cellular networks' practice. This article proposes a decomposition approach to solve the fixed channel assignment problem (FCAP) for large-scale cellular networks through partitioning the whole cellular network into several smaller sub-networks and then designing a sequential branch-and-bound algorithm that is made to solve the FCAP for them sequentially. The key issue of partition is to minimize the dependences of the sub-networks so that the proposed heuristics for solving smaller problems will suffer fewer constraints in searching for better assignments. The proposed algorithms perform well based on experimental results and they were applied to the Taiwan Cellular Cooperation (TCC) in ChungLi city to find better assignments for its network.

  • The channel assignment problem in a mobile communication system is a NP-complete combinatorial optimization problem, in which the calculation time increases exponentially as the range of the problem is extended. This paper adapts a conventional Hopfield neural network model to the channel assignment problem to relieve the calculation time by means of the parallelism supplied from the neural network. In the simulation study, we checked the feasability of such a parallel method for the fixed channel assignment with uniform, and nouniform channel requirements, and for the dynamic channel assignment with considering continously varying channel requirements.

  • With the limited frequency spectrum and an increasing demand for cellular communication services, the problem of channel assignment becomes increasingly important. However, finding a conflict free channel assignment with the minimum channel span is NP hard. As demand for services has expanded in the cellular segment, sever innovations have been made in order to increase the utilization of bandwidth. The innovations are cellular concept, dynamic channel assignment and hierarchical network design. Hierarchical network design holds the public eye because of increasing demand and quality of service to mobile users. We consider the frequency assignment problem and the base station placement simultaneously. Our model takes the candidate locations emanating from this process and the cost of assigning a frequency, operating and maintaining equipment as an input. In addition, we know the avenue and demand as an assumption. We propose the network about the profit maximization. This study can apply to GSM(Global System for Mobile Communication) which has 70% portion in the world. Hierarchical network design using GA(Genetic Algorithm) is the first three-tier (Macro, Micro, Pico) model, We increase the reality through applying to EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility Constraints). Computational experiments on 72 problem instances which have 15${\sim}$40 candidate locations demonstrate the computational viability of our procedure. The result of experiments increases the reality and covers more than 90% of the demand.

  • New algorithms for frequency channel assignment in small cellular mobile radio system are proposed. The algorithms are for a channel assignment method which control the transmitter power level based on the distance between the cell site and the mobile unit. These algorithms are such that any channel can be used by any cell site and mobile unit, as long as a required threshold level of carrier to interference ratio is maintained. As the cochannel reuse distance decreases, the proposed algorithms have given an increase in capacity in comparison to a fixed channel assignment.

  • In this paper, we proposed the channel assignment scheme for the CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access) cellular system using power allocation concept. Also, the performance of the proposed scheme was analyzed and it was compared with the channel assignment scheme using the fixed power allocation method in the CDMA cellular system. The proposed scheme allocates the power adaptively in according to the traffic loads and the traffic distribution pattern of neighbor cells in the forward link. We found that total call blocking probability (Pr) is more dependent on blocking probability($P_B$) than outage probability (Po) under physical number of channels ($C_{th}$)=30. Pr(Call Blocking Probability) is dependent on $P_B$(Blocking Probability) and Po(Outage Probability) at the same ratio under $C_{th}$=32, in which case P$P_{TA}$(blocking probability for the adaptive power allocation) is greater than $P_{TF}$(blocking probability for the fixed power allocation) about 6%.

  • In this paper, we have estimated by means of the theoretical analysis and the simulation of FCA(Fixed Channel Assignment) and CB(Channel Borrowing) in order to consider the CB as a technique to meet ducting interference from adjacent countries. Also, we assumed that the receiving power level of ducting interference with time rate can be characterized by the normal distribution due to the previous measured results, and the ducting interferences which are exceeding the reference power level can be regarded as calls. These calls can be processed by CR assignment and by which sharing channels between cells brings to us the method of meeting the ducting interference to use spectrum resources effectively. However, the spectrum frequency reusing and the interference effects between channels should be considered in CB simulation in the future.
