A Study on Frequency Coordination between Fixed Wireless System and Mobile Base Station in Urban or Sub-urban Area (도심 또는 부도심에서 고정무선시스템과 이동기지국 간의 주파수 조정에 대한 연구)

  • Theoretical modelling and computational results for frequency coordination are presented over mobile base station and fixed wireless systems in urban or sub-urban area. Computational results with key parameters needed for interference analysis are performed and discussed in terms of system characteristics, propagation model, protection ratio, frequency dependent rejection, and discrimination angle with signal-interference plane. Based upon minimum coupling loss methodology, calculated interference powers of victim receiver for assumed system parameters are compared with maximum allowable interference power derived from protection ratio as functions of discrimination angle and distance including height-gain model in urban or sub-urban area. The proposed method is applicable for technical analysis on co-existence or interoperability for the various wireless systems, mandatory for frequency coordination or reallocation process.

  • Opportunistic incremental relaying (OIR) system effectively overcomes the degradations caused by the fading of the wireless channel, and efficiently utilizes the wireless resources. Most of the OIR studies, however, assume spatially fixed relays. The user terminals which are usually served as relays move continuously, the assumption that the relays are fixed is not realistic. In this paper, the location of the spatially random user terminals are modeled by the Poisson point process, and the performance of an OIR system is derived. We noticed that the performance of the OIR system improves with the spatially random relays as well as with the fixed relays. Also the intensity of the relays and the transmitting directions toward the destination affect the performances. The performances of the maximal ratio combining (MRC) and the selection combining (SC) at the destination are compared.

  • This study considers the implementation issues of the inter-vehicle communication system for the vehicle platoon experiments via a testbed. The testbed, which consists of three scale vehicles and one RCS(remote control station), is developed as a tool for functions evaluation between simulation studies and full-sized vehicle researches in the previous study. The cooperative communication of the vehicle-to-vehicle or the vehicle-to-roadside plays a key role for keeping the relative spacing of vehicles small in a vehicle platoon. The static platoon control, where the number of vehicles remains constant, is sufficient for the information to be transmitted in the suitably fixed interval, while the dynamic platoon control such as merge or split requires more flexible network architecture for the dynamical coordination of the communication sequence. In this study, the wireless communication device and the reliable protocol of the flexible network architecture are implemented for our testbed, using the low-cost, ISM band transceiver and the 8-bit microcontroller.

A Parallel Collaborative Sphere Decoder for a MIMO Communication System

  • In this paper, we propose a parallel collaborative sphere decoder with a scalable architecture promising quasi-maximum likelyhood performance with a relatively small amount of computational resources. This design offers a hardware-friendly algorithm using a modified node operation through fixing the variable complexity of the critical path caused by the sequential nature of the conventional sphere decoder (SD). It also reduces the computational complexity compared to the fixed-complexity sphere decoder (FSD) algorithm by tree pruning using collaboratively operated node operators. A Monte Carlo simulation shows that our proposed design can be implemented using only half the parallel operators compared to the approach using an ideal fully parallel scheme such as FSD, with only about a 7% increase of the normalized decoding time for MIMO dimensions of $16{\times}16$ with 16-QAM modulation.

  • In recent years there has been a huge increase in demand for new various communication services due to the rapid advances in wireless communication. These new emerging services give rise to the interference with the existed radio system. As the new representative systems NGSO/MSS systems have been developed, using NGSO, especially Low Earth Orbit (LEO), satellites such as Iridium, Globalstar systems to provide the rapid transfer of information and the positioning services for the moving persons whenever they want to communicate, even if wherever they are. In this paper we have analysed on the interference between the feeder link of NGSO/MSS and M/W fixed system, that is the interference from the mobile satellite earth station into M/W station, as well as the interference from M/W station into the mobile satellite earth station, and the coordinated area.

Implementation of the mobility for Location Searching in Broadband Intelligence Wireless ATM Networks (광대역 지능 무선 ATM 망에서 위치 탐색을 위한 이동성 구현)

  • This paper proposes the method of mobility implementation for location searching in the intelligence wireless ATM networks that expand and apply standard broadband signaling capabilities, and analyze the performance based on the numerical algorithm. The existing B-ISDN UNI protocol stack demands the location search mechanism to determine the location of mobile terminal in the wireless ATM networks because it use single protocol through the fixed PTP interface or PTM interface that don't support terminal mobility. The proposed method make possible the dynamic mobility at a part of wireless access by minimizing the signaling load without a falling-off in system performance by using the intelligence network technology according to the expansion of ATM and B-ISDN signaling integration based on the fixed networks. We implemented the performance analysis by MFC modeling based on numerical algorithm, and realized the efficiency of expenses by carrying out the comparative signaling performance evaluation to measure the relative gains of location search service in the intelligence wireless ATM system. The obtained results have the flexibility to operate in the public B-ISDN network environment without a change of existing B-ISDN/ATM NNI signaling reference to support the wireless ATM access system, and can easily expand to correspond to terminal mobility and various multimedia services in the next broadband PCS.

A Range-Based Localization Algorithm for Wireless Sensor Networks

  • Sensor localization has become an essential requirement for realistic applications over wireless sensor networks (WSN). In this paper we propose an ad hoc localization algorithm that is infrastructure-free, anchor-free, and computationally efficient with reduced communication. A novel combination of distance and direction estimation technique is introduced to detect and estimate ranges between neighbors. Using this information we construct unidirectional coordinate systems to avoid the reflection ambiguity. We then compute node positions using a transformation matrix [T], which reduces the computational complexity of the localization algorithm while computing positions relative to the fixed coordinate system. Simulation results have shown that at a node degree of 9 we get $90\%$ localization with $20\%$ average localization error without using any error refining schemes.

  • Wireless LAN technology is complementary to 3G systems and could be used to provide high bandwidth hotspot coverage, for example in railway stations and offices, in order to provide the high bandwidth video and broadband services such as those emerging on DSL fixed access. The IST Projects BRAIN and MIND have investigated a number of key technical enablers for such a system beyond 3G. These include scenarios and business models, design of an all-IP access network, consideration of ad hoc network extensions, enhancing Wireless LAN efficiency and compatibility with IP and, finally, terminal middleware and signalling for rapid adaptations to network QoS changes.

  • In this paper, we proposed the remote visual monitoring system on mobile robot platform. The proposed system is composed of ARM9 core PXA255 processor, micro CMOS camera and wireless network and the captured visual image is transmitted via 803.11b/g wireless LAN(WLAN) for remote visual monitoring operations. Robot platform maneuvering command is transmitted via WLAN from host and the $640{\times}480$, $320{\times}240$ pixel fixed visual image is transmitted to host at the rate of $3{\sim}10$ frames per second. Experimental system is implemented on Linux OS base and tested for remote visual monitoring operation and verified the proposed objects.

  • In this paper, we investigate a charging mechanism for the system interworking between Wireless Local Area Networks(LANs) and Cellular Networks. Because the charging mechanisms of the two networks are different, a unified charging mechanism is required to correlate the charging informations of the two networks in the system interworking. Therefore, we propose a unified charging mechanism to collect charging information with a combined identifier. Also, we propose a decision method to control the interval of transferring accounting information according to the charging types of users (pre-paid, off-paid, and fixed-rate) and show that the proposed decision method improves the granularity and the communication efficiency of charging informations.
