콘 형상 실린더의 축 방향 압축변형을 이용한 충격흡수장치 설계 (Design of Energy Absorption Device Using the Axial Crushing Behavior of Truncated Cone Type Cylinder)

  • A brake device for the high-speed impacting object is designed using an axial crushing of thin-walled metal cylinder. Thickness of the cylinder is increased smoothly from the impacting end to the fixed end, resulting in the truncated cone shape. Truncated cone shape minimizes the imperfection-sensitivity of the structure and ensures that plastic hinges are formed sequentially from impacting end. This prevents the undesirable sudden rise in the first peak-crushing load. Several specimens with different conic angles, mean thickness of the wall, and materials were designed and quasi-static compression tests were performed on them. Results indicate that adoption of appropriate conic angle prevents simultaneous wrinkles generation and sudden rise of crushing load and that appropriate conic angle differs in each case, depending on the geometry and material property of the cylinder. Finite element analysis was performed for static compression of the cylinder and its accuracy was checked for the future application.

  • In the design of plate girder web panels, it is required to evaluate accurately the elastic buckling strength under pure shear, pure bending and combined bending and shear. Currently, elastic buckling coefficients of web panels stiffened by transverse intermediate stiffeners are determined by assuming conservatively that web panels are simply supported at the juncture between the flange and web. However, depending upon the geometry and the properties of the plate girder bridge, upper juncture between the flange and web can be assumed as fixed because concrete deck prevents the rotational displacement of upper flange. In the present study, a series of numerical analyses based on finite element modeling is carried out to investigate the effects of the concrete deck, and the resulting data are quantified in simple equations.

  • In this paper, the flow characteristics of the mixed-flow pump impellers and diffusers were numerically predicted by commercial CFD software and DOE(design of experiments). We also discussed how to improve the performance of the mixed-flow pump by designing the impeller and diffuser in the mixed-flow pump. Geometric design variables were defined by the vane plane development which indicates the blade-angle distributions and length of the impeller and the diffusers. Firstly, the design optimization of the defined impeller geometric variables has been done. After that, the flow characteristics were analyzed in the point of incidence angle at the diffuser leading edge for the optimized impeller. Then design of the defined diffuser shape variables has been performed. The reason for the performance improvement was discussed by examining the flow characteristics through the diffuser.

  • A new analytical expression for the saturated I-V characteristics of hydrogenerated amorphous silicon thin film transistors(a-si:H TFT) is presented and experimentally verified. The results show that the experimental transfer and output characteristics at several temperatures are easily modeled. The model is based on three functions obtained from the experimental data of $I_D$ versus $V_G$. Theoretical results confirm the simple form of the model in terms of the device geometry. It was determined that the saturated drain current increased at a fixed gate voltage and the device saturated at increasingly larger drain voltages while the threshold voltages decreased.

  • The TFTs have been fabricated with 3 different geometry SID electrodes which have the same channel W/L ratio (W/L = 5) due to constant channel resistance, The 3 samples have different channel widths (350, 150, and $25\;{\mu}m$) and channel lengths (70, 30, and $5\;{\mu}m$) by fixed channel W/L ratio simultaneously on one chip for reliable comparisons. Resultant on-current and field effect mobility are proportional to the channel width, while the subthreshold swing is inversely proportional to the channel width mainly due to the change of contact resistance. These results show that the contact resistance strongly affects the device performances and should be considered in the applications.

  • In the present study, a CFD program based on a finite volume method was developed by using an unstructured polyhedral grid system for the accurate simulation with the complex geometry of computational domain. To simulate the transient flow induced by the moving solid object, the program used a fractional step method and a ALE (Algebric Lagrangian-Eulerian) method. The grid deformation for the moving of solid object were performed with a spring analogy based on the center coordinate of each computational grid. To verify the present program with these methodologies, the numerical results of the flow around the fixed and oscillating circular cylinder were compared with the previous numerical results.

CNC 와이어 벤딩기 구동장치 개발 (Gear Train Development for CNC Wire Bending Machine)

  • CNC wire bending machines are used in industries to make a type variety of wire products such as long links. The machines have a long arm device to rotate in order to remove forming errors by flexibility of wire. Generally, the machines which constructed servo motors in the arm have the rotating range of the arm under 360 degree because the servo motors connect with fixed control devices on frame by many cables. The rotating angle under 360 degree limits working speed and forming geometry. Therefore this study developed a gear train to drive a parts in arm and to be independent on arm rotation movement. The developed gear train can transfer four movements to four components in arm and is consists parallel of four pairs of satellite gear trains. This study constructed the CNC wire bending machine with the developed gear train and verified that the gear train could drive internal components independently on arm rotation.

  • A temperature gradient focusing (TGF) via Joule heating phenomenon was numerically studied. The governing transport equations are implemented into a quasi-1D numerical model to predict the resulting temperature, velocity, and concentration profiles along a microchannel of varying width under an applied electric field. The model is used to analyze the effects of varying certain geometrical parameters of a microchannel on the focusing performance of the device. We show the effects of varying width of the microchannel having a fixed length, and propose the optimal geometry of the device. This method can be easily implemented into lab-on-a-chip (LOC) applications where focusing is required based on its simple design.

  • 본 논문에서는 icing의 모양을 대표적으로 나타낼 수 있는 적절한 특성길이의 선정에 대해 서술하였다. 실험 자료를 분석한 결과, 어떤 하나의 길이 단위로 특성길이를 정의하기는 곤란하였다. 특히, glaze icing 의 경우에는 그 형상이 매우 복잡하여 특성길이를 결정하기가 매우 어려웠다. 그러나, 바람의 방향에 수직한 단면의 길이로 정의되는 icing 길이가 icing으로 인한는 하중을 나타내기에는 실린더 혹은 전선의 지름 보다는 더 적절한 특성길이라 판단된다.

접이식 차양장치에 관한 이론적 연구 (A Theoretical Study on a Folding Shading Device)

  • The majority of fixed shading devices are installed in the exterior of a building in order to dissipate the heat absorbing from the sun and to prevent the direct sunlight. In designing external shading devices for windows, many requirements must be considered simultaneously; solar geometry, optimum energy performance, multi-purpose usage and design factors etc.. In order Lo satisfy these requirements, we suggests the folding shading device and its optimum design methodology. Also we analyzed the thermal performance using the IES_VE program according to various operating modes and compared with existing shading devices. The results show that proposed device reduce about $1.90{\sim}22.40%$ in cooling load and about $1.09{\sim}24.22%$ in heating load in comparison with existing ones.
