Seakeeping, especially for the roll motions, is of critical importance to the safe operation of fishing boats in Indonesia. In this study, a traditional East Java Fishing Boat (EJFB) has been analysed in terms of its seakeeping performance. Furthermore, a bilge keel was designed to reduce the roll motions of the EJFB using multiple stages approach. After installing the designed bilge keels, it was shown that up to 11.78% and 4.87% reduction in the roll response of irregular seaways and the total resistance under the design speed, respectively. It was concluded that the roll-stabilized-EJFB will enhance the well-being of the fisherman and contribute to the boats' safe operation, especially in extreme weather conditions. Moreover, the total resistance reduction of the EJFB due to the installation of the designed bilge keels also resulted in increased operational efficiency and reduced fuel costs and fuel emissions for local stakeholders.

Shrimp beam trawl fishery is one of the important coastal fisheries in Korea. It has a regulation to the length of beam (8m) and wing net (7m) of shrimp beam trawl that has been used in the district of Junlanam-do and Gyungsangnam-do. This regulation was made in relation to the size of shrimp beam trawler of 3-ton class at that time. Now the shrimp beam fishing vessel has a limit not greater than 5 tons in gross ton. Recently, with improvement of fishing industry and fishing vessel fishermen asked the expansion of the length of beam and wing net, therefore it is necessary to investigate the effect of lengthening the beam and wing net length. Three different beams (8m, 10m and 12m in length) and three different wing net (7m, 10m and 13m in length) were made and the experiment was conducted near Narodo of Goheng by two fishing vessels of 4.98 and 4.88 tons in gross ton between June 2011 and October 2012. When the length of wing net was increased from 7m to 10m and 13m, the relative catch ratio in total biomass was increased 25% and 79% for shrimp, (17% and 22% in total), respectively. And when the beam length was increased from 8m to 10m and 12m, the relative catch ratio was increased 35% and 84% for shrimp, (21% and 37% in total), respectively. The force exerted to the iron guide of inhauler's with the beam length of 8m was about 30% greater than that with the beam length of 10m when hauling the shrimp beam trawl net.

A fishing lamp is fishing gear to gather fish in the night. But the cost of oil which is used to a light fishing lamp, goes significantly up to almost one hundred million won for 50 tonnage vessels and forty million won in case of vessels less than 10 tonnages. This cost has almost taken 30.40% of total fishing costs. As oil price increases, the business condition of the fishery gets worse and worse. Therefore, it is very urgent to develop an economical fishing lamp, to solve the problem of fishery's business difficulty. This research aims at developing a fishing lamp for squid jigging fishery and hairtail angling fishery using the LED, which has excellent efficiency and durability. One fishing lamp has about 160Watt capacity and five fishing lamps are installed one aluminium panel in which sea water flows to emit generated heat from LED to outside. Developed fishing lamp lights to an effective direction of jigging and angling operation. This fishing lamp can be controlled to light the direction of fish shoal because the aluminium panel can be controlled to up and down direction. The wave length of fishing lamp has white and blue color. White color light is to gather fish shoal of horizontal direction and blue color light is to gather fish shoal of vertical direction. After development of this fishing lamp, 60.110 units are established on the boat, and operated fishing. Consequently, in the case of squid jigging, spent energy was reduced to 39%, in the case of hairtail angling, 68% of spent energy was reduced. And the catch was more than another boat.

The renewable energy sources can be thought of one of the major measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the industries. However, the utilization technology for those sources is approaching in the different matters. One of them, thermoelectric generation might be applicable to fishing industry. A various of internal combustion engines are used in a wide range of fisheries. After the ignition process, the heat passed out from the exhaust outlet. Recycling the heat could be not only an energy source but also reduction of green gas emission. Therefore, this study was designed to verify the feasibility of generation from wasted exhaust gas and analyze the performance. The designed experiment devices were connected with a data logger and an electric loader to quantify the currency and voltage. The devices were installed in a coastal fishing vessel for a gillnet fishery. During the whole fishing trips, the amount of generation was measured by engine rpm and the fishing operation procedures including vessel operations. At the maximum 1,500 rpm in the practical range, the generation amount was 113.6 W. The amount difference in relation to connection method was within 5 W: serial connection was 111.4 W and parallel connection was 115.8 W.

In this study, a comparative test operation was conducted through the alternate haul method to examine the selectivity of the four mesh sizes (60 mm, 90 mm, 110 mm, and 130 mm) of the trawl codend. The selectivity was analyzed using the SELECT model considering the fishing efficiency (split parameter) of each fishing gear in the comparative test fishing operation in the trawl and the maximum likelihood method for parameter estimation. A selectivity master curve was estimated for several mesh sizes using the extended-SELECT model. As a result of analyzing the selectivity for silver croaker based on the results of three times hauls for each experimental gear, it was found that the size of the fish caught increased as the size of the mesh size increased. When the selectivity for each mesh size analyzed by the SELECT model considering the split ratio was evaluated based on the size of the AIC value, the estimated split model was superior to the equal split model. Based on the master curve, the 50% selection length value was 2.893, which was estimated to be 136 mm based on the mesh size of 60 mm. In some selectivity models, there was a large deviance between observed and theoretical values due to the non-uniformity of the distribution of fished length classes. As a result, it is considered that appropriate sea trials and selectivity evaluation methods with high reliability should be applied to present trawl fishery resource management methods.

Korea and China are two opposite countries located aside Yellow Sea and co-utilize the East China Sea. The two countries are close together from geological point of view, however, the competitive development of resources was more emphasized than the cooperative development of resources between the two countries because the special policy relationship. Additionally, after the communist government of China was founded in 1949, the political conception between the two countries was quite different. Therefore the establishment of appropriate international fisheries co-operation was impossible, and the international management problems of fisheries resources in Yellow Sea and East China Sea were let alone. UN convention on the Law of the Sea came to force in 1994, Korea and China adopted the exclusive economic zone system in 1996. On the other hand, Fisheries Law in Korea was enacted in 1953 in order to management of fisheries resources, and also China was enacted fisheries law in 1986. The two countries control the fisheries effort through fisheries license system, meanwhile through prohibition fishing area, prohibition fishing period, limitation of net size, and limitation of body length to conserve and manage the fisheries resource. The serious management methods of resource management in the two countries are similar such as the creation of promptly decreased species and those species that have commercial value, discharge of fish seedling stock, settlement of artificial reef and clean of fishing ground. Therefore, the two countries should consider not only the improvement of formal law system, but also how to recover the fisheries resources in circumference water zone and how to improve the efficiency of fisheries resource management. Specially the settlement and management of artificial reef should be chosen in the area that have the highest benefit to two countries, and should establish the common management system of discharge of fish seedling stock. And the two countries should adopt the same criteria through technical management and limitation of net size, limitation of body length, and prohibition area of special fisheries to ensure the highest fisheries benefit of fisherman in the two countries and the highest efficiency of fisheries resource management.

The marine equipment companies expanding facility investment in accordance with the booming economy are suffering from the reduced demand and the growth of chinese businesses. In this regard, the risk of overinvestment and the importance of prudent equipment investment must be reconsidered. Thus, in this study we performed a productivity and economical efficiency analysis in order to evaluate the investment value on production facilities in a company under the present conditions. The freezer of a fishing vessel manufactured by N company is selected as the subject of our study, while the assembly and welding cooling plates are configured as the scope of automation. Analysis on productivity and economical efficiency was conducted through CYCLONE (Cyclic Operation Network) simulation and economic analysis methods after analyzing the production process of freezer. The proposed analytical technique can be used to support the investment decision in production automation equipment of fishing vessels freezer.

As part of a series of studies about improving yellow croaker drift gill net fishing gear and the development of a labor-saving fishing system, we installed a labor-saving-type, five-step-drum net hauler, and a triple-V-type net hauler in 108 Daeheung-ho, a fishing boat which operates drift gill nets for yellow croakers mainly in the sea near Chu-ja Island. Net damage with the labor-saving-type, five-step-drum net hauler is lower than for the triple-V-type net hauler. In addition, there was a reduction in the standard operational crew of two people. The lead time for hauling the labor-saving net was approximately 10% and 19.2% less than for hauling the triple-V-type net hauler and for hauling by hand, respectively. It was found that there were fewer slip in fishing gear and less damage to the wing of the drum as well as less damage to the fish when the labor-saving-type, five-step-drum net hauler was used than when the triple-V-type net hauler was used. In the survey, the lead time for hauling the net was approximately 21.6% and 45.2% more effective than hauling with the triple-V-type net hauler and hauling by hand, respectively. The crew was reduced by approximately 18.2% and 25% than when hauling with the triple-V-type net hauler and hauling by hand, respectively. In addition, cessation of operation and damage to the fish were reduced when compared to the triple-V-type net hauler and hauling by hand.

Due to depletion of fish resources as time goes on, the trawl fishing industries which have caught the demersal fish is confronting with financial difficulties. For the purpose of breaking these difficulties, trawlers are expanding the fishing targets to the midwater from bottom stock. The trawlers become to be able to detect the fish schools not only vertical but also horizontal direction by equipping the sonar system on board. Even though the operator locates the fish school by sonar, it is not easy to make a desirable catch of the fish school which is detected, for the reason of the maneuverring characteristics of trawler. For the purpose of enhancing the efficiency of a fish catch, the auther performed a series of on board experiments to investigate the maneuverablilites of midwater trawaler. The obtained results are summerized as follows: 1. The higher the RPM of main engine, the smaller the magnitude of turning circle. And it is smaller in the right than in the left turning 2. Towing speed varies irregularly under turning novenment. When the RPM of main engine being 560, 680 the angular velocities are 11.3deg/min, 22.5deg/min respectively. 3. The difference of new course distance between calculated by maneuverring indices and measured by experimental ship is high when altering course being large and towing speed low. 4. The faster the towing speed is, the shorter the new course distance becomes. When towing speed is same in right and left turning movement, the now course distance is shorter in case of right turning movement than in left. 5. It is considered to be convenient for a navigator to utilize the curves for altering course in order to steer the ship rapidly and accurately.

The charge of distance and the change of tack between paired boats were measured by ship's distance measuring system fixed MCS in the main boat and MS in the following boat. The operating depth of the anchovy boat seine was recorded and analysed by self memory temperature/depth sensor in order to compare the relationship between the distance between towing boats and geometry of the anchovy boat seine net. The results are as follow, (1) When distance between paired boat was 5m, the fishing net was spreaded down deeply and unstably in accordance with bag net and flapper may be help to pass out anchovy school. (2) When distance between paired boat was 100m, vertical opening of the net was gradually increased with higher slope of towing depth in the square, bosom and flapper. Therefore, fishing efficiency could be decreased by preventing the entering of anchovy due to unstable shape of the bag net. (3) When distance between paired boat was 200m, the geometry of the anchovy seine was stable condition with the end of bag net was up while flapper was down and it may cause bad effect in fishing efficiency. (4) When distance between paired boat was 300m, the shape from wing net to bag net was gradually slow down and stable enough as well as good shape in bag net and flapper. (5) The ship's distance measuring system could be used for measurement and accurate control of distance between paired boat in accordance of anchovy recordings by fish finder in order to get higher fishing efficiency in anchory boat seine operation.
