Genetics has played a pivotal role in increasing the world food production through revolutions in plant and animal sciences. Though the attention on fisheries has been inadequate but the growing importance of modern genetic manipulations and biotechnological innovations to aquaculture has been realized. Recent advances in fish genetics and molecular biology have provided a suite of useful techniques, which have several applications in aquaculture. This paper reviews the advancement in the applications of selection, hybridization, chromosome engineering, sex control, gene transfer and molecular technologies for enhanced aquaculture productivity.
Oyster is the most important item next to tuna based on the market value in Korea's fisheries exports and it shares more than $90\%$ of the world oyster market. Oyster industry is a vital component of the Korea's aquaculture industry. However, it has faced many problems such as (1) a lower productivity of the culture system, (2) an environmental deterioration of the farming area, (3) a higher labor cost, (4) a shortage of of oysters to export, and (5) a poor seedling in nature. Therefore, including it's business forecast, the above problems and some countermeasures are discussed in this paper.

Generation of transgenic fish acquiring the ability to express desirable phenotypes offers new possibilities for addressing fundamental biological questions, and can also attribute to enhanced aquaculture productivity. I describe here the recent research progress in my laboratory with particular emphasis on the development of fast-growing autotransgenic fish and its chromosome-set manipulation using our experimental organism, the mud loach, Misgurnus mizolepis. This study estimated the technical efficiency of coastal composite fishery in Korea by using the data envelopment analysis (DEA) and the stochastic frontier analysis (SFA) methods, and the results on the respective method were compared. In the DEA method, the constant returns to scale (CRS) and the variable returns to scale (VRS) output-oriented DEA models were separated and technical efficiencies were estimated, respectively. The average estimated value of technical efficiency by the SFA method (0.633) was found to be lower than that by the VRS-DEA method (0.738), while it was higher than that by the CRS-DEA method (0.479). It was found that strong correlation exists between the SFA method and the VRS-DEA method. The method which can utilize both methods in mutually complementing way for the estimation of technical efficiency was also considered.
The purpose of this study is to understand the production efficiency of individual fishing communities and provide directions for improvement. The subject of the study is aquaculture type Ochon-Gye in Goheung-gun. The analysis method used bootstrap-DEA to overcome the statistical reliability problem of the traditional DEA analysis technique. In addition, data mining-GIS was applied to identify the spatial productivity of fishing communities. The values of technology efficiency, pure technology efficiency, and scale efficiency were estimated for 32 aquaculture-type fishing villages. Then, using the benchmarking reference set and weights, the projection was presented through adjustment of the input factor excess, and furthermore, the confidence interval of the efficiency values considering statistical significance was estimated using bootstrap.
This study is an analysis of the growing trend from 1971 to 1980 on the four major fisheries in Korea; large powered purse seine, anchovy drag net, two boats large trawl and one boat large trawl. The main purpose of this study is to find some solutions against the problems which these fisheries are faced with, through the analysis of the growing trend of income, capital structure and main ratios of finance. According to the result of the analysis, the problems are as following: \circled1 Revenues per vessel was decreased when catches per vessel was decreased in 1979, 1980. therefore the increase ratio of the revenues per vessel was weakened from 1979. \circled2 Catches per vessel was decreased from 1979 in spite of the increase of gross cathes in its field. \circled3 Production costs in fishing, such as the cost of wages, fuels and repairs, was steadily up year by year. \circled4 Profitability was deteriorated from 1978. \circled5 productivity was lower from 1978. \circled6 Stability was lower from 1978. The solutions out of the above problems are as follows; \circled1 Fisheries resources must be fostered. \circled2 The numbers of vessels should be reduced according to the fisheries resources. \circled3 The precise amount of resources should be dynamically estimated. \circled4 The fishermen must be educated to reduce fishing cost such as the cost of fuels and repairs, etc. \circled5 The old vessels should be replaced. \circled6 The production efficiency should be promoted. \circled7 The rate of interest should be cut down to reduce financial cost.
This study was designed to analyze the effects of reducing water turnover in olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus farms, focusing on olive flounder growth, decreasing electricity costs, and developing measures to ensure business stability. Daily water turnover was set at 18 in the control group and six in the experimental group. Juvenile fish were reared for 12 months. No significant differences in mean weight were observed between groups until five months. After five months, the mean weight of the control group grew significantly faster than that of the experimental group. Maintaining water turnovers leverl at six turnovers for the first five months after stocking juvenile fish and then increasing water turnover resulted in a 34.4% reduction in electricity costs compared to the control group. This approach presents a potential method to enhance the profitability of olive flounder farms and ensure stable productivity and profitability without sacrificing olive flounder growth.
It is a world trend to construct large terminal and develop automated container terminal to attract Super Post-Panamax and provide service which is based on differentiation. In fact, there is insufficient research for automatization of terminal gate since the automatization of current constructed container terminal is only focused on increasing productivity and unmanned system through the automatization of quay, yard, etc. In this paper, we have investigated advantage/disadvantage of existing gate operation systems and compared each gate operation system in the aspect of raising terminal image and the productivity. For the specific study, we have used data from actual terminal gate operation and RFID model business sponsored by MOMAF (Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries). As a result, this paper carried out an efficient gate operation system and it has been expected that it will be performed as groundwork of automated gate operation system which is for design of container terminal and improvement of gate operation system.

Effects of artificial releases of sea cucumber around the marine ranching area in Jeollanam-do were showed very efficient by the released good seeds(total weight, 3.2g) in 'Wolhang', compared with those in 'Hwatae'. The survival rates were the higher in 'Wolhang' by 66.0% than in 'Hwatae' by 27.0%. The results indicates that the releasing effect of sea cucumber depended on the releas size. To analyze the productivity we investigated the growth and survival rates of sea cucumber according to the releasing area. Our result showed that the growth rate and survival rate was higher in 'Hwatae' than other areas. In 'Hwatae', the growth rate and survival rate were 6.2g and 32.1% respective. The results indicates that if the food supply is continued, although proceeding contamination the productivity of sea cucumber increased. Therefore, in order to enhancement and conservation of resource, bottom of fish cage should consider to the utilization.
