Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the fitness of anterior and posterior interim crowns fabricated by three different additive manufacturing technologies. Methods: The working model was digitized, and single crowns (maxillary right central incisor and maxillary right first molar) were designed using computer-aided design software (DentalCad 2.2; exocad). On each abutment, interim crowns (n=60) were fabricated using three types of additive manufacturing technologies. Then, the abutment appearance and internal scan data of the interim crown was obtained using an intraoral scanner. The fitness of the interim crowns were evaluated by using the superimposition of the three-dimensional scan data (Geomagic Control X; 3D Systems). The one-way analysis of variance and Tukey posterior test were used to compare the results among groups (α=0.05). Results: A significant difference was found in the fitness of the interim crowns according to the type of additive manufacturing technology (p<0.05). The posterior interim crown showed smaller root mean square value than the anterior interim crown. Conclusion: Since the fitness of the posterior interim crown produced by three types of additive manufacturing technology were all within clinically acceptable range (<120 ㎛), it can be sufficiently used for the fabrication of interim crowns.

This report presents a rare case of maxillary osteoblastoma in a 17-year-old female. The patient presented with dull pain and facial asymmetry inferior to the left zygoma. An intraoral examination found a painless swelling on the buccal gingival tissue in the left posterior maxilla. Panoramic radiographs and multidetector computed tomographic images revealed an ill-defined, non-corticated, mixed attenuating entity of osseous density located within the left posterior maxilla apical to the left maxillary molars. The entity exhibited a heterogeneous internal structure with a fine granular appearance, and the periphery showed a partial hypo-attenuating rim along the antero-medial aspect. Expansion of the left posterior maxilla accompanied with displacement of the left maxillary sinus floor was noted. External root resorption of the first and second molars was noted, as well as postero-superior displacement of the third molar. The histopathologic diagnosis of the biopsy was osteoblastoma. Complete excision of the tumor was performed.
PURPOSE. Four and six implant-supported fixed full-arch prostheses with various framework materials were assessed under different loading conditions. MATERIALS AND METHODS. In the edentulous maxilla, the implants were positioned in a configuration of four to six implant modalities. CoCr, Ti, ZrO2, and PEEK materials were used to produce the prosthetic structure. Using finite element stress analysis, the first molar was subjected to a 200 N axial and 45° oblique force. Stresses were measured on the bone, implants, abutment screw, abutment, and prosthetic screw. The Von Mises, maximum, and minimum principal stress values were calculated and compared. RESULTS. The maximum and minimum principal stresses in bone were determined as CoCr < ZrO2 < Ti < PEEK. The Von Mises stresses on the implant, implant screw, abutment, and prosthetic screws were determined as CoCr < ZrO2 < Ti < PEEK. The highest Von Mises stress was 9584.4 Mpa in PEEK material on the prosthetic screw under 4 implant-oblique loading. The highest maximum principal stress value in bone was found to be 120.89 Mpa, for PEEK in 4 implant-oblique loading. CONCLUSION. For four and six implant-supported structures, and depending on the loading condition, the system accumulated different stresses. The distribution of stress was reduced in materials with a high elastic modulus. When choosing materials for implant-supported fixed prostheses, it is essential to consider both the number of implants and the mechanical and physical attributes of the framework material.
This report presents the case of a 5-year-old boy with a hard swelling on the right side of the mandible body. An important point of this case is that the primary imaging finding was fine spicules in the inferior border of the mandible on panoramic radiography without significant changes in bone density. Cone-beam computed tomography views revealed a lytic lesion on the lingual side of the right mandibular body with the destruction of the lingual cortex and periosteal reaction from the midline to the first molar area. Careful attention to this radiographic finding in the primary stage in the absence of other significant imaging findings, particularly in children, could result in the early diagnosis of desmoplastic fibroma. Therefore, a better prognosis can be expected following early surgical treatment.
Chronic maxillary sinusitis is a common disease, with symptoms of dull, aching pain or pressure below the eyes and signs such as tenderness over the involved sinus, whereas trigeminal neuralgia is described as severe, paroxysmal, and lancinating brief pain limited in distributions of one or more divisions of trigeminal nerve. In cases where these two non-odontogenic toothache symptoms overlaps, the diagnostic process can be confusing. Here, we report a case of a 54-year-old male patient with chief complaints of intermittent, severe, and electric-like pain in the upper left premolar and first molar area, initially diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia but finally with maxillary sinusitis after pain recurrence 2 years after that. Therefore, thorough history taking and precise imaging interpretation should be considered to make correct diagnose especially in case of a patient with newly developed or altered or atypical symptoms.
The synthesis of the Mannich base as a ligand (L) N-(morpholino (phenyl) methyl) acetamide is the subject of this study. Elemental analyses, FT-IR spectra, UV-vis, 1H-NMR, and magnetic measurements were used to confirm the synthesis of the [Ni(L)2]Cl2 complex, thermal analysis (TG/DTG), atomic absorption, and scanning, and structurally explained as electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) methods. The melting point of the complex and its molar conductivity were also measured. The suggested geometries of the complexes formed have a tetrahedral structure, according to the data acquired using various techniques. Theoretical approaches to the complex formation have been investigated. For molecular mechanics and semi-empirical calculations, the HYPERCHEM6 program had been used. The effect of the novel Ni(II) complex on the cancer cell Hepa-2 (human hepatocellular ademocarcinoma), that is the human laryngeal cancer, was studied. It has been found that these ligand and complex have potent effects on the cancer cell. The antibacterial activity of the free ligand and its complex was evaluated against two kinds of human pathogenic bacteria. The first category is Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureas, epiderimids), whereas the second group is Gram-negative (Psedamonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli) (from the diffusion method). Finally, it was discovered that various chemicals had varied growth-inhibiting effects on bacteria.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of the aqueous extract of the steamed radix of Rehmanniae glutinosa (SRG) on periodontitis in ligature-induced rat model. Methods: To induce the periodontitis, ligature was placed around the lower first molar in rats. Rats were divided into 4 groups (n = 7), NL (non-ligatured and vehicle-treated), L (ligatured and vehicle-treated), SRG1 (ligatured and 1 mg/kg SRG-treated) and SRG100 (ligatured and 100 mg/kg SRG-treated). Vehicle or SRG solution was applied daily for 14 days and then all experimental rats were sacrificed. To examine the effect of SRG solution on periodontitis, the level of alveolar bone loss, cementum regeneration, gingival tissue degradation, and osteoclast cell numbers were analyzed. Results: Alveolar bone loss was inhibited in ligature-induced periodontitis rats treated with SRG treatment. Histopathological cementum was recovered in SRG1 and SRG100 groups. SRG extract inhibited gingival tissue degradation induced by ligature. In addition, the numbers of osteoclast cells were decreased by treatment SRG in periodontitis rats. Conclusion: Taken together, these results suggest that SRG have inhibitory effects against periodontitis. Therefore, the steamed radix of Rehmanniae glutinosa has may be a potential alternative for periodontitis.

Ingestions and aspirations of foreign bodies are rare, but do occasionally occur during dental treatment. Although reports exist, few include photos demonstrating the extensive surgical intervention that may be necessary to manage such events. Perhaps this lack of visualization, and associated lack of awareness, is one of the reasons some clinicians still provide nonsurgical root canal therapy (NSRCT) without a rubber dam. This case report outlines the medical treatment of a 30-year-old male who initially presented to a general dentist's office (not associated with the authors) for NSRCT of their mandibular right first molar. A rubber dam was not used for this procedure, during which the accidental ingestion of an endodontic K-file occurred. The patient was subsequently hospitalized for evaluation and treatment, consisting of numerous imaging studies, endoscopic evaluation, and surgical removal of the file from his small intestine. The ingestion of foreign bodies, and the associated complications, can be reduced through the routine use of a rubber dam, which is considered the standard of care for NSRCT. This case graphically illustrates the potential consequences associated with deviating from the standard of care and should remind clinicians that a rubber dam is necessary for all cases of NSRCT.

In continuous research of detecting highly toxic chemical warfare agents to ensure preparedness for the future battlefield, flexible and wearable sensor platforms with high sensitivity are still demanding. Herein we demonstrate a facile fabrication of polypyrrole-based chemiresistors on cellulose paper for the detection of nerve gas simulants. In order to optimize electrical properties of sensor platform, conducting polymer made of polypyrrole were first synthesized on flexible cellulose paper and interdigitated electrodes were formed thereon. Following confirmation of polypyrrole and/or oxime moiety through FT-IR analyses, electrical characteristics were measured in the various ratio of monomers between simple pyrrole and oxime-modified one. Typically for the optimized chemiresistor(2:8 molar ratio of simple pyrrole and oxime-modified one), eleven species of chemical warfare agents were examined and enhanced conductivity(104~105 order) was observed for three simulants(diethyl cyanophosphonate, diisopropyl fluorophosphonate and diethyl chlorophosphonate), which was mainly attributed to intermolecular hydrogen bonding, while no significant responses was recorded against sixteen common volatile organic chemicals.
Primary tuberculous osteomyelitis involving the mandible represents less than 2% of skeletal locations. In this paper, we report a case of mandibular tuberculosis (TB) detected after histopathological analysis of the surgically resected specimen during surgical management of a suspected case of ameloblastoma. A 14-year-old male patient presented to us with history of right-sided chin swelling. The clinical examination revealed a swelling, involving right body and parasymphysis of mandible, measuring approximately 6 cm in length and 2 cm in width, extending from right lateral incisor till the first molar. Radiological scans revealed a large multiloculated osteolytic expansive lesion measuring 52 × 20 × 18 mm. Excision of the lesion was performed and reconstruction was done with iliac bone grafting. The histopathological findings revealed a granulomatous lesion, suggestive of tuberculous osteomyelitis. The patient was successfully treated with standard multidrug therapy. One year after completion of therapy, there were no signs of recurrence. Primary mandibular TB is an extremely rare entity. Its clinical presentation is not specific. Radiologically, TB has no characteristic appearance. The positive diagnosis is based on histology. Primary mandibular TB is rare and should be kept among differential diagnoses in susceptible population and in endemic areas.
