  • The purpose of this study is to examine the geographical distribution and the clustering characteristics as an industrial cluster in order to provide alternative fundamental data for the preparation of the policies to facilitate the development of the Green Energy Industry. The main source of the data in this study is the outcome of a survey conducted to the firms and environment specialist from June 21st, 2010 to July 23rd, 2010. The Green Energy related companies in Daegyeong region are clustered around Pohang and Gumi, Gyeongbuk, and Dalseo District of Daegu Metropolitan City. The core element of the sustainability of the Green Energy Industry in the region is the inducement of the large-scale corporate presence in the region as well as the technical and geographical proximity. That is, the fact that there are sister companies established by the large scale corporate Daegyeong region as they have chosen this field for their new drive for growth. The major location factors are proximity, higher quality expectations from the local demands, technical availability, and competition with other companies of the same industry in the region, rather than the availability of the raw material. And the choke points for these companies are the financial support of R&D and the policy support of specialist training. The policy to facilitate the development of the industry in question in Daegyeong region, therefore, should shift from its previous focuses on infrastructure building and taxation benefits to financial supports for the technical research, human resource development in response to the needs of the companies. Also, programs to support the proficiency training for the already-hired work forces and development of new policies for the Green Energy Industry are needed to be introduced for the development of the Green Energy Industry in Daegyeong region.

  • This study estimated and decomposed the productivity changes into technological change and efficiency change components for the photonics industry and examined ways of imporving the productive efficiency. Unlike most previous studies, this study employed a non-oriented Malmquist productivity index, which is a non-radial method and deals directly with the input surpluses and output shortfalls. The empirical results show that the productivity of the photonics industry has increased. The main reason for this is the increase in technical efficiency. In addition, there was a statistically significant difference in the productivity changes according to the firm's geographic location and participation in government support programs. These findings suggest that the government's regional strategic industry promotion policy has contributed to improvements in the productive efficiency of photonics industry. The approach presented in this study could be used as a practical reference guide to help enhance the competitiveness of the photonics industry.

  • Sebaceous carcinomas of the eyelids are uncommon but lethal tumors. Lesions are usually seen in the elderly, predominantly women. The meibomian glands of the tarsus are the most frequent site of origin. Less commonly, the tumor arises in other sebaceous glands, e.g., the gland of Zeis, eyebrow or caruncle. Regardless of the location, sebaceous malignancies must be considered aggressive neoplasms with a potential for regional and distant metastasis. Diagnosis may be difficult, given the low incidence and inconsistencies in histopathologic classification. Treatment requires wide surgical excision with removal of involved regional lymph nodes and exenteration is reserved for those patients with orbital involvement or diffuse intraepithelial neoplasia. Opinions are divided regarding the use of postoperative irradiation or chemotherapy. Recently we experienced 46-year-old male patient with a 12-month history of painless, firm nodule and conjunctivitis due to sebaceous carcinoma of the left upper eyelid. After surgery, serial sections of the entire conjunctiva and eyelids showed a positive cut margin in medial and lateral border. We report herein this patient that supports irradiation as the postoperative treatment of these tumors in selected patients with a review of literatures.

  • The results of treatment of eighteen lesions of fibrous dysplasia which of them seventeen lesions were treated with surgery were reviewed at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, College of Medicine, Hanyang University Hospital. We studied to evaluate the functional clinical results and the recurrence according to the type of disease, grafted bone, methods of treatment and location of lesion. We treated sixteen patients(five males and eleven females) and their mean age was 22.6 years. There was no association with skin pigmentation or dysfunction of endocrine system. Twelve patients had a monostotic pattern and four patients had a polyostotic pattern. Twelve lesions were treated with curettage and bone grafting and four lesions in the proximal femur were treated by internal fixation with curettage and bone grafting. One lesion was treated by en-bloc resection. There were eleven satisfactory results in twelve monostotic lesions and there were four satisfactory results in five polyostotic lesions, but the recurrence were four cases, respectively. The two unsatisfactory results were seen in two patients treated by autografting, but there were three recurrence of four lesions in autografting only, one of five in autografting and allografting, four of eight in allgrafting or xenografting. Four of six lesions in upper extremity were recurred after curettage and bone grafting and five of them showed satisfactory results. In pelvic and lower extremity lesions, the recurrence were occurred in two lesions after curettage and bone grafting and in two lesions after internal fixation and bone grafting. The recurrence does not always provide an unsatisfactory functional results and the recurrence showed higher rate in radiologic pattern of ground glass appearance with-out marginal sclerotic rim, but the recurrence according to grafted bone showed similar rates. Curettage and bone grafting is adequate for a symptomatic lesion and firm internal fixation is needed for a lesion in proximal femur. In use of grafted bone, xenograft or allograft may be preferable to autograft because of the disadvantage of autografting like a increased blood loss, prolonged operation times, etc.

  • Muller's muscle-levator aponeurosis advancement procedure was performed to correct mild to moderate congenital blepharoptosis with moderate to good levator function and to correct severe aquired blepharoptosis with poor levator function. Through the blepharoplasty incision, the upper half of the tarsal plate was exposed and the orbital septum was opened to show the levator aponeurosis. The Muller's muscle was dissected from the superior margin of the tarsal plate and from the posteriorly located conjunctiva with sharp scissors. The Muller's muscle and levator aponeurosis were advanced on the anterior surface of the tarsal plate as a composite flap and fixed approximately 3 to 4 mm inferior to the upper edge of the tarsal plate with three horizontal 6-0 nylon mattress sutures. The amount of advancement of the composite flap was controlled by the location of the upper eyelid margin 2 mm below the upper limbus in primary gaze after the first suture in the middle portion of the flap. The excess flap was trimmed off with scissors, but trimming was usually not necessary in cases of mild to moderate ptosis. Nine cases underwent this Muller's muscle-levator aponeurosis advancement procedure from September 2003 to September 2004. Five cases were congenital blepharoptosis with 2-4 mm ptosis and more than 5 mm of levator function, but three of the four acquired ptosis cases had more than 4 mm ptosis with poor levator function. The age of the patients ranged from 7 to 81 years. In operative results, all patients except one traumatic case were within 1 mm of the desired eyelid height in primary gaze. This procedure can provide not only tightening of the Muller's muscle but also advancement and firm fixation of the levator aponeurosis to the tarsal plate, yielding predictable results.

  • This study aims to test the spatial mismatch hypothesis by exploring the relationship between income and commuting time in Seoul, Korea. For this purpose, we analyze the commuting times of individuals who commute to Seoul, using the data for the metropolitan household survey. We employed a hierarchial linear model(HLM) to capture the effects of both individual attributes and regional attributes, and their interactions. The results show that the commuting time decreases with household income controlling for the regional attributes, and the effect of income increases with the housing price of the location of a commuter's firm. This implies that the spatial mismatch holds for Seoul as follows: Lower personal income and housing affordablility extend individuals' commuting times, and the destinations' characteristics such as housing type and land use also have impacts on commuting time. These results have some policy implications for achieving social equity in terms of spatial structure of the city.

  • , 2007 firm by Joe Wright, deals with tragic love of Cecilia and Robbie. While the 2001 novel of the same name focuses on Briony narrative the movie is seen through romantic relationship of two lovers. However, Briony's narrative in the movie helps to accent the two's love story. The director's emphasis on the love story is unfortunately from Briony tragic story. The continuous build up of misunderstanding and irreconcilable regrets begins to materialize and explodes in the middle of the film. The director manages to use just one day and uses the same location to illustrate the background of the characters as well as build up of the plot's misunderstanding. The study will focus on the beginning of the film that enabled the beautiful love story through effect and symbolic visual expression and techniques- especially the use of mise-en-scene, camera movement, framing, and lighting and how it emphasis and use of specific color and sound.

  • Korean pines(Pinus koraiensis) are one of the major plantation species in the Republic of Korea and their natural habitats range from Japan and China to Siberia. The seed of Korean pines, pine nuts, are well know for good food reserves. Due to the global changes which drive the Korean peninsula into the semi-tropical climate, current plantations and natural habitats of Korean pines are faced with the change in the environmental conditions to some extent. To anticipate suitable sites for Korean pines in the future, the location of Korean pines were extracted from the 'Map of suitable trees on a site' that provides the map of suitable trees on a site considering tree species for timber and special uses, and then MaxEnt modelling was used for generating a prediction map on the basis of statistical analysis. As a result, the order of predicted suitable sites were Kangwon-do, Kyungsangbuk-do and Chungcheongbuk-do provinces and sites with high elevation within those provinces were considered most suitable in common. The prediction map of suitable sites for Korean pines presented that suitable sites in the future decreased by 72.2% by 2050's and almost disappeared with a decrease of 92.1% by 2070's on a nationwide scale. In relation to the major production regions of pine nuts in South Korea - Gapyung gun and Yangpyung gun, Kyunggi province and Hongcheon gun, Kangwon province, suitable sites within their areas were predicted to increase by 2050's but become extinct in South Korea by 2070's. To establish a long-term countermeasures against the improvement on forest productivity quality in terms of managing national food security, the result from this study can be considered as a firm basis of predicting plantation suitability. Also, it can be used to predict the changes in supply of forest products and thereby market values in accordance with climate change scenarios.

  • Purpose: Basal cell adenoma of the salivary gland is an uncommon type of monomorphic adenoma. The most frequent location is parotid gland. It usually appears as a firm, mobile and slow-growing mass. Originally the term "basal cell adenoma" is described as a benign salivary gland tumor comprised of uniform appearing basaloid cells which are arranged in solid, trabecular, tubular, and membranous patterns. But the myxoid and chondroid mesenchymal like component as seen in pleomorphic adenoma is lacking in basal cell adenoma. We report a case of basal cell adenoma of parotid gland with review of the literatures. Methods: The 59-year-old female patient was referred to our department with a painless palpable mass in the left preauricular region for about 1 year. Movable and nontender subcutaneous mass was palpable. There was no evidence of cervical metastasis in computed tomography and ultrasonography. On fine needle aspiration cytology, pleomorphic adenoma was suspected. Under general anesthesia, superficial parotidectomy including tumor was performed. The biopsy result was basal cell adenoma. Results: Long-term follow-up for 54 months showed favorable result without evidence of recurrence except for temporary facial nerve weakness right after the surgery. Conclusion: Basal cell adenoma is the third most frequent benign tumor of the salivary gland, following pleomorphic adenoma and Warthin's tumor, although the incidence is low. The typical clinical feature of the basal cell adenoma is slowly growing, asymptomatic, and freely movable parotid mass. Basal cell adenoma should be also considered as a differential diagnosis of the parotid gland benign tumor.

  • Although Korea is short of capital technology, and natural resources, she has achieved an outstanding progress by the export-drive policies by Korean government and the creative endeavor of Korean firms. As a result of that, Korean economy and enterprises are in the same file of newly industrialized countries and Korea is ready for an economic take-off as a developed country. But in the early 1980s, each country strengthens protective trade theory and resources nationalism, and this has a great influence on the field of international trade environment. In spite of that, to continue the same high development as that of the past. Korea must try to secure and find export markets, solve trade barriers, make sure of the long-term security of resources, develop technology, and strengthen economic cooperations. To satisfy these desires by 2000s, we must try to make Korean enterprises have the global competitive power and them grow strongly among world wide firm through capital and technology accumulated during the passed years, and to do so, there must be a foreign production and marketing management, too, this can be achieved only through foreign overseas direct investment. This investment has various forms, to say, verifical integrated, horizontal integrated. conglomerate integrated forms, and the amount of investment in each country from 18 century to today reaches 500 billion dollars. This investment is done by strategic, behavioral economic, and financial motives. So I am going to approach the fields of like these; in spite of the differences among political, economical, caltural, and social systems, and many risk compared with domestic enterprises, why do Korean firms witsh to transfer the productive facilities to overseas countries and run them there? What is the comparative advantage of foreign direct investment compared with domestic investment ?. why is the factor of comparative advantage transferred through foreign direct investment?, what is the motive of foreign overseas direct investment?, and last the ownership-specific factors and the theory of internalization, and the location specific factors were analysed chiefly. But in consideration of the given condition in Korea, Korean overseas direct investment must be propelled rationally on the basis of the above mentioned theory.
