  • We present an output feedback controller for a class of nonlinear systems with uncertain nonlinearity and sensor noise. The sensor noise has both a finite constant component and a time-varying component such that its integral function is finite. The new design and analysis method is based on the matrix inequality approach. With our proposed controller, the states and output can be ultimately bounded even though the structure of nonlinearity is more general than that in the existing results.

  • Recent catastrophic accidents at the underground subway stations in South Korea have proven that the subway evacuation is an important safety concern. Previous studies have used commercial programs for safety assessment or have been focused on development of computing algorithms rather than the basic analysis data which form the foundation of studies. In this study, we designed a new movement recording apparatus which measured and analyzed crowd movements including but not limited to moving velocity, specific flow rate and crowd density. Moreover, We propose new effective analysis method for evacuation studies with this apparatus.

  • Auto ignition characteristic is an important factor for handling combustible substance and fire prevention. This research studied about auto ignition characteristic and activation energy of Ethylene Glycol (EG) and Diethylene Glycol (DEG) by using ASTM D2155 type ignition temperature measuring apparatus. As the auto ignition temperatures, it was possible to get $434^{\circ}C$ for EG within sample amount range of $75{\sim}160{\mu}l$ and $387^{\circ}C$ for DEG within sample amount range of $130{\sim}150{\mu}l$. Also, it was possible to get $579^{\circ}C$ and $569^{\circ}C$ as instantaneous ignition temperatures with sample amount of $140{\mu}l$ for EG and DEG respectively. By using least square method from Semenov equation on measured ignition temperature and ignition delay time from this study, it was possible to calculate activation energy of EG as 25.41 Kcal/mol and DEG as 14.07 Kcal/mol. Therefore, it was possible to claim that DEG has more risk of auto ignition since the auto ignition temperature, instantaneous ignition temperature and activation energy of DEG is lower than EG.

  • The law reflects the situation of the times, understands the society, and shows the will of the state and the community. The Means of Egress should be maintained from design to construction, supervision, as well as use, in order to protect the lives and property of the residents as well as the safe use of the facilities. However, Interior Architects are think that evacuation and safety regulations are complex elements that change frequently and may inhibit the idea of design. The purpose of this study is to propose a design method for the use of safe facilities in the interior architectural design on the evacuation regulations affecting the actual design by the IBC(the International Building Code) and NFPA(National Fire Protection Association) LSC (Life Safety Code). The research method is to investigate and analyze the provisions related to the evacuation of interior architecture in the US and to understand the current regulations and the evacuation regulations. We suggest to design method to the details of the hallway, corridors, aisle accessway, door way, exit path, In particular, the design of furniture, tables and chairs layout that could be obstacles to evacuation situations is presented.

  • This paper describes a series of compression tests performed on cold-formed steel channel sections with perforations in the web (thermal studs) fabricated from a galvanized steel plate whose thickness ranged from 1.0 mm to 1.6 mm and nominal yield stress was 295 MPa. The structural behavior and performance of thermal studs undergoing local, distortional, or flexural-torsional buckling were investigated experimentally and analytically. The compression tests indicate that the slits in the web had significant negative effects on the buckling and ultimate strength of thin-walled channel section columns. The compressive strength of perforated thermal studs was estimated using equivalent solid channel sections of reduced thickness instead of the studs. The direct strength method, a newly developed and adopted alternative to the effective width method for designing cold-formed steel sections in the AISI Standard S100 (2004) and AS/NZS 4600 (Standard Australia 2005), was calibrated to the test results for its application to cold-formed channel sections with slits in the web. The results verify that the DSM can predict the ultimate strength of channel section columns with slits in the web by substituting equivalent solid sections of reduced thickness for them.

  • In order to introduce the hydrogen economy and increase supply, research in the field of hydrogen production is being actively conducted. Among the hydrogen production methods, the method of steam reforming from natural gas and producing it currently accounts for about 50% of the global hydrogen production. In the method of steam reforming process, hydrogen can be produced by adding a reformer to an existing natural gas supply pipe. Because of these advantages, it is evaluated as a realistic production method at present in Korea, where the city gas supply chain is well established. But there is concern in that it is highly likely to be installed in downtown areas and residential spaces. In this study, the risk of the process of steam reforming to produce hydrogen was reviewed.

  • PG and RG methods are widely known method for calculating the capacity of the emergency generator in construction electrical installation. PG and RG methods are mainly used as a saving a life, fire protection, fire fighting in construction. Because no long distance between the emergency generator and electric motor feeder, the relatively small motor power in construction electrical installation, the capacity of generator in PG and RG methods are little problem of voltage and reactive power of generator. However in many cases the application of the PG and RG method is difficult in the Chemical Plant because it is long distance between the generator and the motor Feeder and motor capacity is very large. Motor starting power factor is about 0.2 lagging power factor and motor starting current is about 6times during motor staring. Also Most of the staring current component is a reactive power component. therefore, it is many cases that lack of reactive power and excess of allowable voltage drop limit and After selection of emergency diesel generator, problems happen during motor starting. Therefore, to be selection of effective emergency generator, active generator power, reactive power and the required reactive power during large motor starting should be considered in chemical plant. It is also required of the verification process through simulation because hand calculation is very difficult considering study cases.
