Reinforced Concrete structures have been commonly regarded as fire-resisting constructions. In the case of high-strength concrete, however, the behavior of a concrete member under fire and after fire has characteristics in different way with normal strength concrete members because of spalling. The resonable evaluation about the residual strength and stiffness of members as well as material properties has to be conducted before reusing the fire-damaged structures or retrofitting or strengthening them. Therefore, the guideline is needed for evaluation the residual strength and stiffness. In this study, the fire test is conducted with parameters like concrete strength, fire time and cover thickness, etc. The loads-deflection curves are used for comparison and analysis with the parameters.
The fire resistance of composite steel and concrete structures may be determined by using the simplified methods provided in EN 1994-1-2. For the particular situations not covered by the standard, an advanced calculation model might be applied, using special purpose programs for the analysis of structures in fire. The validation of these programs has always been an important issue for software developers, but also for designers and authorities. Clause 4.4.4 from EN 1994-1-2 refers to the validation of the advanced calculation models and states that these models must be validated through relevant test results. The paper presents the calculation of fire resistance of the composite columns in a high-rise building built in Romania, and focusses on the validation of the calculation model (computer program SAFIR), for this particular case. This validation, asked by the Romanian authorities, considers the available experimental results of a fire test, performed on a similar composite steel-concrete column.
Analysis on the study for the sodium fire mitigation was carried out using the CONTAIN-LMR code. Sodium loop building was partitioned into the many cells, in which the safety venting systems were installed for the purpose of improving the sodium fire safety and minimizing its effect on the sodium loop building. The effects of sodium fire on sodium loop building partitioned into the many cells and not partitioned were investigated. The peak pressure and temperature of each cell accompanied by sodium fire in sodium loop building partitioned were lower than those of sodium loop building not partitioned. In the case of partitioning sodium loop building, the pressures, temperatures and aerosols into cells were transferred through propagation path of CONTAIN-LMR sodium fire model simulated by this study, and the effect of sodium spray fire on sodium loop building was mitigated by partitioning building. In addition, the excessive rise of pressure into cells was prevented by installing the over-pressure exhaust valve and under-pressure exhaust valve on the flow path between cells.
The evacuation simulation study was performed with the boundary condition of a fire simulator, referring to Dae-gu Subway Fire Accident which was a real station fire. The subway station was modelled from B3F station building to B2F waiting room in fire simulation. Also, a fire simulation were performed with CFAST and FLUENT. In CFAST, the total 29 zones were divided into 18 station buildings in B3F and 11 station buildings in B2F. In FLUENT, the simulated space had the same establishment as zone of CFAST. The study focused on possibility for application of fire simulation in underground station by comparing the resulted values from two simulators. For application of fire effect, the fire data were loaded directly to EXODUS in the case of CFAST and performed a passenger evacuation simulation. In the case of FLUENT, Out Data values of a fire simulation were difficult to be compatible with EXODUS. Two resulted values of passenger evacuation simulation by fire simulation were compared with the Dae-gu Subway Fire Accident in reality.
This study analyzed the working conditions of the fire protection system in the Goyang Bus Terminal fire based on the fire investigation results. The results were as follows. First, extinguishing using an indoor fire hydrant was not attempted immediately after the fire burned the ceiling urethane foam. Second, a sprinkler alarm valve was turn off and did not work in the repair work space of the 1st basement. On the other hand, the sprinklers in the $2^{nd}$ basement, $1^{st}$ floor, $2^{nd}$ floor, and $3^{rd}$ floor worked and prevented the fire from moving to stories other than the $1^{st}$ basement. Third, although an exit light worked normally, it was not installed in the exit from the waiting room in the $2^{nd}$ floor to the bus stop. This resulted in many casualties. Fourth, although a fire receiver sent an electrical signal to the fan controller of the smoke control system, it was treated manually in the fan controller and the fan in the $2^{nd}$ floor did not work.
Quantitative safety analysis through a fault tree method has been conducted for a fire broken out over the spilling LNG from a pilot LNG tank, which may have 4 types of scenarios causing potentially risky results. When we consider LNG release from venting pipelines as a first event, any specific radius of Low Flammable Limit(LFL) has not been built up. The second case of LNG outflow from the rupture of storage tank which will be the severest has been analyzed and the results revealed various diffusion areas to the leaking times even with the same amount of LNG release. As a third case LNG leakage from the inlet/outlet pipelines was taken into consider. The results showed no significant differences of LFL radii between the two spilling times of 10 and 60 minutes. Hence, we have known the most affecting factor on the third scenario is an initial amount of LNG release. Finally, the extent of LFL was calculated when LNG pipelines around the dike area were damaged. In addition, consequence analysis has been also performed to acquire the heat radiation and flame magnitude for each case.
This paper has two objectives. One is to introduce a software package, "FASTLite" for fire safety engineering calculation, the other to show the modeling result of a backdraft incident on the 62 WATTS street. A classic backdraft usually persists only seconds before exhausting their fuel supply but in this case the flame had persists for at least 6 and a half minutes. It is truly necessary to find out where the fuel came from to feed this flame for so long. The backdraft is successfully modelled by using FASTLite. To help understanding of this backdraft, the calculation with the door open is also carried out and compared to the backdraft.
This study analyzed the cause and liability of a car fire. The car was purchased 1 year ago and had traveled 8,500 km. When the car stopped at a red right and was about to start when the light turned green, the car next to it sounded itsa horn. As a result, the driver stopped the car and found that there was a fire in the engine compartment, which the fire brigade subsequently extinguished. This car fire may have been caused by an electrical spark from a screw hook inserted into the battery + terminal. Therefore, the courts decided that the car owner or driver was not responsible for the fire, because the electrical spark from the hook that caused it resulted from the automaker's manufacturing defect.

Fire stations should be located in optimal location to act quickly in case of emergency and minimize damages as a public facility that protects life and property of local residents. Siting fire stations without regard for the accessibility and occurrence factors of an accident may provide fire service unequally. Therefore service analysis is necessary to reduce the blind spot of disaster and safety and to offer equal fire-service at this time. Especially fire stations can service more efficiently than before by reducing a more likely vulnerable area. This study suggests methods of mapping index of value that represents vulnerability of the occurrence of an accident and extracting service zone map of fire stations, as an initial research for offering efficient fire service. Geographical distribution mismatch between service zone map and vulnerability map is figured out and vulnerable area for fire service is defined by using map overlay method.

In this paper, we studied on the firing characteristics and electrical fire analysis of power cord deteriorated by thermal stress. The cross section of PVC insulating cord deteriorated by indirect flame decreased through heat convection. PVC insulating cord deteriorated by direct flame was bumpy shape. The exothermic peak of normal cord was shown at ($526.7^{\circ}C$), but the peaks or on(heat treatment temperature) ($150^{\circ}C$) cord was shown at ($299.6^{\circ}C$) and [$502.2^{\circ}C$]. The exothermic peaks according to high temperature were similar to those of amorphous carbon. In the FT-IR analysis, the absorption peak of normal cord indicated double bond of oxygen and carbon in benzene ring at 1720.0$cm^{1}$. As the HTT was high, the height of characteristic peak decreased and the peak of carbonyl group was shown at about 1625.7$cm^{-1}$. The characteristic peak of single bond(O-H) was shown at about 3479.2$cm^{-1}$. In case of the internal part of wire covering deteriorated by over current, the characteristic peak were shown at about 3417.3$cm^{-1}$ and 1600.2$cm^{-1}$. The above results show that we can distinguish the differences according to the fire pattern through the internalㆍexternal analysis of wire covering deteriorated by heat.
