In this paper, we have studied on the active vibration control of an automotive roof in passenger car's structure using piezoelectric material as the actuator and sensor attached on the surface of the automotive roof, As a control algorithm, negative velocity feedback control method is used in the study and the position of the sensor is almost attached on the nearest position of maximum normal stresses occurring while the roof is vibrating due to disturbance or exciting, Also, the actuator is attached on the other side mostly collocated to the sensor. The optimum positions have the maximum stresses of the roof which have been found in the result of the finite element analysis using Nastran software, As the fundamental experiments, a beam and plate have also been implemented to verify the performance of vibration suppression. Finally the experiment of the roof has been carried out and The roof experiment has just given a possibility to an active vibration control of the automotive structure still not applied for passenger cars.

Recently, many researches have been carried out for a high temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet which is advantageous in high critical current density and critical temperature. In HTS magnet, however, critical current is decreased by perpendicular magnetic field and persistent current is hard to maintain due to a low index value and high joint resistance compared with low temperature superconducting (LTS) magnet. In this paper, the HTS magnet using BSCCO wire was simulated through finite element method (FEM) and manufactured. we experimentally investigated operating characteristics of the compensating mode of the HTS magnet for current decay and made a comparison between persistent current mode and compensating mode. A feedback control unit was used to sustain current within specified ranges with defined upper and lower limits.
This paper presents the feasibilityof a thickness mode piezoelectric oscillator to detect damages in structures. The thickness mode oscillator sensor is composed of an electronic feedback oscillator circuit and a piezoelectric thickness mode vibrator to be attached to a structure of interest. Damage to the structure causes a change in the impedance spectrum of the structure, which results in a corresponding change of a resonant frequency of the structure. The oscillator sensor can instantly detect the frequency change in a very simple manner. Feasibility of the piezoelectric oscillator sensor was verified with a sample aluminum plate where artificial cracks of different lengths and number were imposed in sequence. Validity of the measurement was confirmed through comparison of the experimental data with the results of finite element analyses of a plate with cracks.

Among various kinds of hearing aids which have been developed so far. the conventional air conduction hearing aids have some problems such as the acoustic distortion, an howling effect due to acoustic feedback. Another type of hearing aid. the cochlear implant system can be applied to the profound imparied person. However. it shows the disadvantage that there is no possibility of recovery of the acoustic organ such as ossicle. On the other hand. the implantable middle ear heaving device directly vibratos the ossicular chain and has better sound qualify. good cosmetics for appearance. and wide frequency responses so that it can overcome the defects or the conventional hearing aids. In this paper, a mathematical modeling and a momentum equation derivation of the DET has been performed. For the optimization of the structure dimension generating maximal vibrating force of the DET. the computer simulation using a finite element analysis (FEA) software has been performed. Also. the vibrating transducer has been designed to make the frequency characteristics or the transducer be similar to those of the normal middle ear. Through the experimental results, the measured vibration characteristics of the DET has been evaluated to verify the performance for the application to implantable middle ear hearing devices.

In this talk, a reduced-order modeling methodology based on centroidal Voronoi tessellations (CVT's)is introduced. CVT's are special Voronoi tessellations for which the generators of the Voronoi diagram are also the centers of mass (means) of the corresponding Voronoi cells. The discrete data sets, CVT's are closely related to the h-means clustering techniques. Even with the use of good mesh generators, discretization schemes, and solution algorithms, the computational simulation of complex, turbulent, or chaotic systems still remains a formidable endeavor. For example, typical finite element codes may require many thousands of degrees of freedom for the accurate simulation of fluid flows. The situation is even worse for optimization problems for which multiple solutions of the complex state system are usually required or in feedback control problems for which real-time solutions of the complex state system are needed. There hava been many studies devoted to the development, testing, and use of reduced-order models for complex systems such as unsteady fluid flows. The types of reduced-ordered models that we study are those attempt to determine accurate approximate solutions of a complex system using very few degrees of freedom. To do so, such models have to use basis functions that are in some way intimately connected to the problem being approximated. Once a very low-dimensional reduced basis has been determined, one can employ it to solve the complex system by applying, e.g., a Galerkin method. In general, reduced bases are globally supported so that the discrete systems are dense; however, if the reduced basis is of very low dimension, one does not care about the lack of sparsity in the discrete system. A discussion of reduced-ordering modeling for complex systems such as fluid flows is given to provide a context for the application of reduced-order bases. Then, detailed descriptions of CVT-based reduced-order bases and how they can be constructed of complex systems are given. Subsequently, some concrete incompressible flow examples are used to illustrate the construction and use of CVT-based reduced-order bases. The CVT-based reduced-order modeling methodology is shown to be effective for these examples and is also shown to be inexpensive to apply compared to other reduced-order methods.

Recently, we have proposed a hypothesis that spinal structures have a stress sensor driving feedback mechanism, In the human spine, spinal structure could react to modify muscular action in such a way so as to equalize stress at the disc, therefore reduce the risk of injury, In this analysis, abdominal muscle and abdominal pressure, which were not included in the previous study, were added to identify those effects in spine stability during upright stance posture for the case where the intervertebral disc plays the role of mechanoreceptor, The musculoskeletal FE model was consisted with detailed whole lumbar spine, pelvis, sacrum, coccyx and simplified trunk model. Muscle architecture with 46 local muscles containing paraspinal muscle and 6 rectus abdominal muscles were assigned according to the acting directions. The magnitude of 4kPa was considered for abdominal pressure. Minimization of the nucleus pressure deviation and annulus fiber average tension stress deviation was chosen for cost function. Developed model provide nice coincidence with in-vivo measurement (nucleus pressure). Analysis was conducted according to existence of co-activation of abdominal muscle and abdominal pressure. Antagonistic activity of abdominal muscle produced stability of spinal column with relatively small amount of total muscle force. In contrast to the abdominal muscle, effect of abdominal pressure was not clear that was partly depending on the assumption of constant abdominal pressure.

Ultra precision positioning mechanism has widely been used on semiconductor manufacturing equipments, optical spectrum analyzer and cell manipulations. Ultra precision positioning mechanism is consisted of several actuators, sensors, guides and control systems. Its efficiency depends on each performance of components. The object of this study is to design, analysis and manufacture all of the inchworm linear motor system, which is one of the equipments embodied in ultra precision positioning mechanism. Inchworm linear motor system is consisted of a controller system and an inchworm linear motor, and its driving form is similar to a motion of spanworm. A design and manufacture of inchworm linear motor, which is consisted of three PZT actuators, a rod, two columns and a guide plate, are performed. Minimizing the von-Mises stress of the hinge using Taguchi method and simulation by FEM software optimizes the structural design in a column of flexure hinge. The designed columns and guide plates are manufactured by a W-EDM and NC-milling. A controller system, which is an apparatus to drive inchworm linear motor, can easily adjust driving conditions by varying resonance frequency and input-output voltage of actuators and amplifiers. The performance of manufactured inchworm linear motor system is verified and valuated. In the future, inchworm linear motor system will be used to make a more precision positioning by reinforcing a sensor and feedback system.
There are two types of packet loss probabilities used in both the network layer and the physical layer within the wireless transmitter such as a queueing discard probability and transmission loss probability. We analyze these loss performances in order to guarantee Quality of Service (QoS) which is the basic of the future network. The queuing loss probability is caused by a maximum allowable delay time and the transmission loss probability is caused by a wireless channel error. These two types of packet loss probabilities are not easily analyzed due to recursive feedback which, originates as a result at a queueing delay and a number of retransmission attempts. We consider a wireless transmitter to a M/D/1 queueing model. We configurate the model to have a finite-size FIFO buffer in order to analyze the real-time traffic streams. Then we present the approaches used for evaluating the loss probabilities of this M/D/1/K queueing model. To analyze the two types of probabilities which have mutual feedbacks with each other, we drive the solutions recursively. The validity and accuracy of the analysis are confirmed by the computer simulation. From the following solutions, we suggest a minimum of 'a Maximum Allowable Delay Time' for real-time traffic in order to initially guarantee the QoS. Finally, we analyze the required service rate for each type utilizing real-time traffic and we apply our valuable analysis to a N-user's wireless network in order to get the fundamental information (types of supportable real-type traffics, types of supportable QoS, supportable maximum number of users) for network design.
The design and construction of underground structures contain many substantial mincer dainties. A reasonable estimation of geotechnical parameters is of paramount importance and must be one of the most difficult tasks in designing and constructing underground structures. If the plastic zone exists by tunnel excavation, the ground response may also be dependent on the yield criterion mainly composed of strength parameters. In order to estimate unknown model parameters from the in-situ measurements as well as prior estimates for designing tunnels which have plastic zones, the Extended Bayesian Method(EBM) is adopted : an elasto-plastic finite element program is linked to the EBM as a mathematical model to predict the ground response. Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion is used to represent the plastic behavior. A hypothetical underground site, where the ground behaves elasto-plastically, is adopted to demonstrate the validity of the proposed feedback system.

The initial shape is arrived at by a self-formation process, which accomplishes a form in the natural world, or is determined analytically by considering the equilibrium of initial stress only. Therefore, the self-formation process, which accomplishes a form in the natural world is grasped and the types of modeling techniques available to find the shapes of soft structures are well investigated and classified. To establish a form-finding modeling techniques, the models of string, soap film, fabric, rubber, plaster, and etc. are used. These modeling techniques can be used as a method of understanding the characteristics of structures when the material of model shows similar characteristics. Generally, the model test confirms the structure based on numerical analysis, at the same time it is important preceding process to develop such a program. With the above process, the relationship between model test and numerical analysis becomes a feedback process. Therefore, in this study, two examples which have been accomplished from such a technique are investigated and considered according to modeling process.
