A magnetic fluid separation technology was confirmed to be very effective to remove the suspended solids (SS) from aquacultural recirculating water, In this study, the effects of operating variables on the characteristics of SS removal were investigated through the test runs using magnetite of 2 $\mu$m mean diameter as magnetic powder. Magnetic flocculation here formed by adsorbing fine magnetites on the surface of suspended solid was observed. The strength of magnet was of significance in determining the SS removal efficiency as well as the capacity of the equipment. In addition, the SS removal efficiency decreased with an increase in the superficial liquid velocity, but the effect became negligible when the mass ratio of magnetite to the suspended solids was higher than 1.0.
For the propose of increasing the value added, zeolite powder was granulated by adding Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) as cementing material. The optimal concentration of PVA for granulation and the physical properties of the prepared granule were investigated. Four percent PVA stock solution was made by adding distilled water at $90^{\circ}C$ water bath and incorporated with zeolite. The contents of water stable granule above 2.0mm in diameter was 98.0% in the case of 0.3% PVA addition and almost 100% in the case of 0.6% PVA addition. Increasing PVA concentration of granules increased the hardness and decreased the infiltration rate and the maximum water holding capacity of granules, However, the drying method hardly affected the physical properties of granules. With the increase in the mixing ratios of kaolinite or bentonite to zeolite, the hardness of granules increased but high water contents of granules resulted in rapid decrease in the hardness of granules. However, when smectite or perlite was mixed with zeolite, the increase in mixing ratios to zeolite resulted in the decrease in hardness, the increase in the infilteration rate and maximum water holding capacity of granules.

This research studied production of lightweight filling production for sink hole restoration utilizing various industrial by-products(2kinds of fly ash, petro-cokes CFBC ash, blast furnace slag fine particle). For this purpose, the mixed raw material properties(compressive strength) behaviors according to the blending ratio of industrial by-products were examined by applying the experimental design method and statistical analysis was performed using the commercial program MINITAB. Compressive strengths of industrial by-products were strongly dependent on blast furnace slag powder. Compressive strength(3days aging) was 3~11MPa depending on the amount of blast furnace slag powder used. The use of CFBC fly ash was evaluated to have the least effect on compressive strength. In addition, the compressive strength and the coefficient of permeability were measured by preparing foamed concrete for the experimental batch 1 condition in the mixture experimental design. In this case, the bulk density is 0.9 to 1.0, the apparent porosity is 30 to 50%, the compressive strength(3days old) is 1 to 2MPa, and the permeability coefficient is $10^{-2}$ to $10^{-3}cm/sec$.

3 kinds of fine powder, Fe-2%Ni alloy powder(N Ltd.) and Fe+2%Ni mixed powder(B Ltd. and S Ltd.), were fabricated into sintered compacts of bending strength specimens and ring type specimens by metal injection molding, debinding and controlling sintering conditions (reduction and sintering atmospheres, sintering temperature, sintering time and cooling rates). Density and magnetic properties of the sintered compacts were evaluated with the following conclusions. (1) When each compact was hold at 1123K for 3.6ks in H2 and sintered at 1623K for 14.4ks in Ar, the density of N, B and S Ltd.'s sintered compacts were measured as 96, 99 and 99%, and oxygen/carbon contents were measured as 0.0041%O/0.0006%C, 0.0027%O/0.0022%C, and 0.160%O/0.0026%C, respectively. (2) Magnetic characteristics of B Ltd. compact in Ar with the best results showed $B_{25}=14.3KG$, $B_r=7.75KG$, and $H_c=2.1Oe$, but not enough as those made by melting process. (3) Magnetic properties of B Ltd. compact which were sintered at 1673K for 14.4ks in Ar gas, and cooled at $0.83Ks^{-1}$ to 1123K and then cooled at $0.083Ks^{-1}$ down to room temperature were measured as $B_{25}=14.8KG$, $B_r=8.3KG$, and $H_c=1.3Oe$, almost similar to those made by melting process. Objected soft magnetic materials properties were obtained through sintering process by controlling sintering conditions (reduction condition, sintering atmosphere, sintering temperature and sintering time) and cooling rates.
Most of the red ginseng (RG) products contain active substances derived from hot water or alcohol extraction. Since active substances of RG are divided into two types - water-soluble and liposoluble - water or alcohol is needed as an extraction solvent and this leads the different extraction yields and components of the active substances. To overcome the limit, whole red ginseng powder can be used and consumed by consumers. In this study, the physicochemical properties and extractable active substance contents of variable-sized RG powder ($158.00{\mu}m$, $8.45{\mu}m$, and $6.33{\mu}m$) were analyzed, and dispersion stability was measured to investigate the suitable size of RG powder for industrial processing. In the results, no significant difference was found from the changes in color intensity and thiobarbutric acid tests at $4^{\circ}C$, $25^{\circ}C$, and $40^{\circ}C$ for 4 weeks. There was no significant difference on the production of antioxidants and ginsenoside among the samples (p>0.05). In dispersion stability, $RG-158.00{\mu}m$ was precipitated immediately, and the dispersion stabilities between $RG-8.45{\mu}m$ and $RG-6.33{\mu}m$ showed no significant difference. It implies that fine RG is suitable for the production process. With further study, it seemed that the physicochemical effects of RG particle sizes can be clearly revealed.

There was a study for biological characteristics, except for physico-chemical and mineralogical properties, on the natural bentonite that is considered as a buffer material for the high-level radioactive waste disposal site. A bentonite slurry that was prepared from a local 'Gyeongju bentonite' in Korea was incubated in a serum bottle with nutrient media over 1 week and its stepwise change was observed with time. From the activated bentonite in the nutrient media, we can find a certain change of both solid and liquid phases. Some dark and fine sulfides began to be generated from dissolved sulfate solution, and 4 species of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) were identified as living cells in samples that were periodically taken and incubated. These results show that sulfate-reducing (or metal-reducing) bacteria are adhering and existing in the powder of bentonite, suggesting that there may be a potential occurrence of longterm biogeochemical effects in and around the bentonite buffer in underground anoxic environmental conditions.

Metakaolin is a cementitious material for producing high-strength concrete. This material is now used as substitute for silica-fume. In this paper, we did the mechanical and durability test such as compressive/tensile/flexural strength test, chloride ion diffusion, chemical attack and repeated freezing and thawing, carbonation test. In the mechanical tests, 10~15% for binder is optimum substitute rate. And, in the chloride ion diffusion test, according to the increase of substitute of metakaolin & silica-fume for binder, the diffusion coefficient was more reduced. In the chemical attack test, by the filler effect of fine powder such metakaolin and silica-fume, the resistance is more excellent than normal concrete. In the other durability test, the concrete using metakaolin also compared with those of silica-fume substitute concrete. Through these tests, we recognized that metakaolin can be used as a substitute for silica-fume.
This study was attempted to investigate the physicochemical changes during soybean-leaf water kimchis fermentation by adding wheat flour in cooking water. Soybean-leaf water kimchis with five different levels of wheat flour in cooking water(0%;A, 5%;B 10%;c, 15%;D, 20%;E) were tested for rhological parameters, fine structural changes, sensory evaluations and chemical analysis. The composition of the soybean-leaf was moisture (80.9%), protein(6.8%), fat(0.6%), ash(2.1%) and alkalinity (+14.9). The amount of reducing sugars of sample A and other samples were 0.75% and 1.08∼1.4% in the initial fermentation stage, but decreased to 0.3 and 0.43∼0.50% in the later fermentation stage, respectively. The pH of sample A decreased from 5.17 to 4.72 during the initial fermentation. On sample B, C, D and E, pH's decreased rapidly during the initial fermentation, but they did not change much in the later fermentation stage. The pectin contents of all samples decreased during 2nd and 4th day of fermentation, then the change was slow. The amount of hemicellulose. cellulose and lignin in terms of the DNF and ADF were varied from 4 to 33%, but the contents of them did not greatly changed during the fermentation. The sensory evaluation showed that both B and C samples had the good score in sweety taste, roasted nutty taste, and the ease of swallowing measured as chewiness. From these results, the optimum soybean-leaf water kimchis can be prepared when 200g soybean-leaf, 1000$m\ell$ water, 15g garlic, 3% red pepper powder and 5 ∼0% wheat flour were fermented at 20$^{\circ}C$ for 2 days.

To get a fine $LiFePO_4$ powder with high electrical conductivity, the influences of doping of aliovalent elements(Cr+B and Cr+Al) on electrical conductivity and of heat treatment conditions on particle size of the doped powders were studied. Two kinds of the doped powders $LiFe_{0.965}Cr_{0.03}B_{0.005}PO_4$ and $LiFe_{0.065}Cr_{0.03}Al_{0.005}PO_4$ were synthesized using mechanochemical milling and subsequent heat treatment at $675{\sim}750^{\circ}C$ for $5{\sim}10\;h$. The doping enhanced grain growth and electrical conductivity. The electrical conductivity at $30^{\circ}C$ was $1{\times}10^{-8}S/cm$ in the doped with Cr and Al, and $5{\times}10^{-10}S/cm$ in the undoped one.
Inorganic stiffening agents were prepared by mixing paper sludge incineration ash, blast furnace slag fine powder quicklime, anhydrous gypsum and fly ash. The main components of the solidifying agent developed for sludge treatment were SiO, $Al_2O_3$, $TiO_2$, $Fe_2O_3$, $Mn_2O_3$, CaO, MgO, $Na_2O$, $K_2O$, $P_2O$, and $SO_3$. Unlike cement, the developed solidifying agent did not contain $Cr^{6+}$, which is known as a carcinogen. Heavy metals and oil contaminated soil were mixed with solidifying agent and cured for 7 days and the heavy metal content was below the environmental standard. Sewage sludge cake, food waste and solidifying agent were mixed with each other, and after 7 days curing, soil component test showed that the heavy metal content was below the environmental standard. After mixing the sludge, solidifying agent and additive mixture into the beaker, the ammonia concentration was measured to be 0 after 3 days.
