The morphological characteristics of spermatogenic cells during the spermiogenesis of Paradoxornis webbiana were studied by transmission electron microscope. Spermiogenesis of P. webbiana was divided into ten phase. The chromatin granules became fibrous granules at the Golgi phase, gradually condensed at the cap phases, condensed as a stick at the acrosomal phase, and finally, a perfect nucleus was formed at the maturation phase. The formation of sperm tail began at the early Golgi phase, and completed at the late maturation phase. In particular, the dense materials existed in the sperm neck, which is wedged between the tip of segmented columns and the first mitochondria of the middle piece. The axone in the neck were surrounded by the dense materials. The axonema in spermatozoon contains a 9+2 arrangement of microtubules: 9 doublets, and 2 central single microtubules. Mitochondrial bundles of middle piece were composed of a pair of arms, which surrounded the axone of the middle piece by the $15^{\circ}$ angled-helical structure. The outer membrane of mitochondria were surrounded by microtubules in plasma membrane of the sperm. The undulating membrane had a helical structure, and the sperm plasma membrane was surrounded by undulating membrane.
In this study, the influence of impurity element Ca, P on solidification behavior and morphology of eutectic silicon was examined by observation of microstructure and by DSC analysis. In the case of 1.3 ppm P, eutectic Si was fine and fibrous when the added amount of Ca was 500 ppm, However, the modification of eutectic Si was depressed by formation of polygonal Ca-Si compounds when the addition amount of Ca was greater than 1000 ppm. The addition of Ca 500 ppm depressed the primary and eutectic temperature. The primary and eutectic temperature were depressed with Ca 500 ppm but rather ascended when the addition amount of Ca was more than 1000 ppm. When the content of P was 17.5 ppm, eutectic Si had modified morphology with Ca addition. DAS was increased, the primary temperature was ascended and eutectic temperature was depressed with Ca added. Eutectic Si appeared as coarse flake phase and DAS was decreased with the increase of P content. The existence of P in the melt depressed the primary temperature and ascended eutectic temperature.
Retinal glial responses to hypertensive glaucomatous injury were spatiotemporally surveyed. Retinas as a whole or vertical sections were processed for anti-glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), anti-Iba1, anti-nerve growth factor (NGF), and anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-${\alpha}$ immunohistochemistry for confocal microscopic analyses. The optic nerve head of paired controls was processed for electron microscopy. GFAP positive astrocytes appeared in the nerve fiber layer in the glaucomatous and control retinas, changing from fine protoplasmic to stout fibrous parallel to glaucomatous duration. Iba1 positive microglia appeared in both retinas, and enormous reaction appeared at the latest glaucomatous. M$\ddot{u}$ller reaction detected by GFAP reactivity expanded from the end feet to whole profile following to duration in the glaucomatous. NGF reactivity expended from the end feet to the proximal radial processes of the M$\ddot{u}$ller cells in both retinas according to glaucomatous duration. TNF-${\alpha}$ immunoreactivity in the nerve fiber layer was stronger in both the glaucomatous and controls than in the normal, and exceptionally at the latest glaucomatous was even lower than the normal. The astrocytes in the optic nerve head are interconnected with each other via gap junction. These results demonstrate that astrocyte reaction propagates to the contralateral via physical links, and TNF-${\alpha}$ is correlated with NGF production for neuroprotection in response to hypertensive glaucomatous injury.
Mo thin films were used for the back electrode because of the low resistivity in the Mo/$CuInGaSe_2$ contact in chalcopyrite solar cells. $1\;{\mu}m$ thick Mo thin films were deposited on soda lime glass by varying the Ar pressure with the dc-magnetron sputtering process. The effects of the Ar pressure on the morphology of the Mo back electrode were studied and the relationships between the morphology and electro-optical properties, namely, the resistivity as well as the reflectance of the Mo thin films, were investigated. The resitivity increased from $24\;{\mu}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ to $11833\;{\mu}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$; this was caused by the increased surface defect and low crystallinity as the Ar pressure increased from $3{\times}10^{-3}$ to $3{\times}10^{-2}\;Torr$. The surface morphologies of the Mo thin films changed from somewhat coarse fibrous structures to irregular and fine celled structures with increased surface cracks along the cell boundaries, as the Ar pressure increased from $3{\times}10^{-3}$ to $3{\times}10^{-2}\;Torr$. The changes of reflectances in the visible light range with Ar pressures were mainly attributed to the surface morphological changes of the Mo thin films. The reflectance in the visible light range showed the highest value of 45% at $3{\times}10^{-3}\;Torr$ and decreased to 18.5% at $3{\times}10^{-2}\;Torr$.
A 10-year-old castrated male Schnauzer (case 1) and a 13-year-old intact male Schnauzer (case 2) was referred with mass of left hind limb. We performed hemogram, serum chemistry, radiography, ultrasonography, computed tomography, fine needle aspiration and histopathology. The complete blood counts and serum biochemistry results were within the reference range. Radiography showed cutaneous mass with soft tissue density. The lesions of two dogs were revealed a definite marginated hyperechoic mass with vascularization in ultrasonography. Computed tomography showed an isodense mass in the left hind limb region with minimal contrast enhancing in case 1 and heterogenous enhancement in case 2. Cytology from ultrasonographic guided aspiration of the mass was suspected fibrous tissue-derived benign cell in two dogs. A surgical excision was performed in two dogs. In histological examination of the resected mass, cutaneous fibroma was revealed. The two patients were successfully treated by surgery and postoperative care. This report decribes and compares radiographic, ultrasonographic, computed tomographic, cytologic and histopathologic features of the cutaneous fibroma of two schnauzer dogs.

The structure zone model has been used to provide an overview of the relationship between the microstructure of the films deposited by PVD and the most prominent deposition condition.s. B.AMovchan and AV.Demchishin have proposed it firstls such model. They concluded that the general features of the resulting structures could be correlated into three zones depending on $T/T_m$. Here T m is the melting point of the coating material and T is the substrate temperature in kelvines. Zone 1 ($T/Tm_) is dominated by tapered macrograins with domed tops, zone 2 ($O.3) by columnar grains with denser boundaries and zone 3 ($T/T_m>O.5$) by equiaxed grains formed by recrystallization. J.AThomton has extended this model to include the effect of the sputtering gas pressure and found a fourth zone termed zone T(transition zone) consisting of a dense array of poorly defined fibrous grains. R.Messier found that the zone I-T boundary (fourth zone of Thorton) varies in a fashion similar to the film bias potential as a function of gas pressure. However, there has not nearly enough model for explaining the change in morphology with crystal orientation of the films. The structure zone model only provide an information about the morphology of the deposited film. In general, the nucleation and growth mechanism for granular and fine structure of the deposited films are very complex in an PVD technique because the morphology and orientation depend not only on the substrate temperature but also on the energy of deposition of the atoms or ions, the kinetic mechanism between metal atoms and argon or nitrogen gas, and even on the presence of impurities. In order to clarify these relationship, AI and Mg thin films were prepared on SPCC steel substrates by PVD techniques. The influence of gas pressures and bias voltages on their crystal orientation and morphology of the prepared films were investigated by SEM and XRD, respectively. And the effect of crystal orientation and morphology of the prepared films on corrosion resistance was estimated by measuring polarization curves in 3% NaCI solution.
This study was done to elucidate the electron microscopic characteristics of certain pathogenic fungi. Four Candida species, (C. albicans, C. tropicalis, C. parapsilosis and C. glabrate) and Cryptococcus neoformans were cultured for 3 days at $30^{\circ}C$ in the Sabouraud dextrose medium. After incubation, they were stored at $4^{\circ}C$ for 24hours. Fine structures were analyzed by morphometry, and Tukey's HSD test was used for statistics. On scanning electron microscopy C. albicans and C. neoformans were similar in size but different in shape, showing sphero-shape or ovalo-shape in C. neoformans. Surface of C. neoformans was coarse and spiny, but Candida species examined were uniformly smooth. In size, C. glabrata was the smallest among them. Budding scar as seen on the surface of Candida species by the number ranging from 1 to 7. Cryptococcus neoformans showed one or two budding scar. On transmission electron microscopy the cytoplasm of most yeast cells showed plentiful glycogen particles, mitochondria, peroxisomes and vacuoles. However, cell walls were different among four Candida species and Cryptococcus neoformans. The cell wall of Candida species consisted of fibrous layer, that was electron dense layer and transparent layer, in contrast to Cryptococcus neoformans consisted of electron dense layer with lamellar structure. This layer was two times thicker than that of Candida species. The outer layer of cell wall was of radiating pattern.
The effects of Sc and Sr elements on the modification of the eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase and the castability were investigated in the Al-4wt%Mg-0.9wt%Si-0.3wt%Mn-0.15wt%Fe alloy. Measurements of the cooling curve and microstructure observations were performed to analyze the additional effects of Sc and Sr minor elements during the solidification process. A prominent effect found on the modification of the eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase with additions of the Sr and Sc elements. Here, a fine eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase and a decrease in the growth temperature of the eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase were evident with an addition of Sc element up to 0.2 wt%. The growth temperature of the eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase decreased and the effect on the modification of the eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase increased with the addition of Sr element up to 0.02 wt%. The addition of 0.02wt%Sr had the strongest effect on the modification of the eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase, and the resulting microstructure of the eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase was found to have a fibrous morphology with a decreased aspect ratio and an increased modification ratio. Fluidity and shrinkage tests were conducted to evaluate the castability of the alloy. The addition of 0.02wt%Sr effectively increased the fluidity of the alloy, while an addition of Sc did not show any effect compared to when nothing was added. The maximum filling length was recorded for 0.01wt%TiB-0.02wt%Sr owing to the effect of the fine ${\alpha}$-Al grains. The macro-shrinkage ratio decreased, while the micro-shrinkage ratio increased with the addition of various eutectic modifiers. The highest ratio of micro-shrinkage was recorded for the 0.02wt%Sr condition. However, the total shrinkage ratio was nearly identical regardless of the amounts added in this study.
Malignant mesenchymoma is a very rare tumor presented during the embryonic and infant period and malignant mesenchymoma in the adult is extremely rare. Tumor is composed of two or more unrelated mesenchymal derivatives apart from fibrous tissue. These tumors are thought to be originated from embryonic mesenchyme capable of differentiating into any type of connective tissue. A 61 years old man with complaints of cough and copious sputum of onset of two months was admitted after initial examinations, showing a very huge mass over the right upper lobe. Right pneumonectomy with partial rib resection of 3rd, 4th, and 5th ribs was performed due to the initial diagnostic impression of squamous cell carcinoma by the fine needle aspiration biopsy. The operative field presented a mass locating across the interlobal fissure with severe adhesions to the chest wall. Postoperatively, the patient received 5,000 rads of radiotherapy and presently, 6 months later, has shown no signs of recurrence.
The occurrence of nuclear inclusions has been reported in various plant groups from primitive ferns to higher flowering plants. Their presence within a group seems to be randomly distributed without any phylogenetic relationships among species. According to the current survey, nuclear inclusions have been widely documented in more than several hundreds of species from various families of plants. The morphology and internal structures of nuclear inclusions are diverse and at least five types of inclusions develop within plant nuclei; amorphous, crystalline, fibrous, lamellar, and tubular form. Among these types, crystalline inclusions are the ones that are the most frequently reported. The inclusions are not bound by membranes and appear to be related to the nucleoli, either spatially by a close association or by an inverse relationship in size during development. The idea that nuclear inclusions are of a proteinaceous nature has been widely accepted. Further link to nucleolar activity as a protein storing site has also been suggested based on the association between the nucleolus and nuclear inclusions. Various investigations of nuclear inclusions have revealed more information about their structural features, but characterizing their precise function and subunit complexity employing molecular analysis and 3-D reconstruction remains to be elucidated. Tilting and tomography of serial sections with appropriate image processing can provide valuable information on their subunit(s). The present review summarizes discussion about different nuclear inclusions in plants from previous works, giving special attention to their fine, ultrastructural morphology, function, and origin.
