The lengths of fibers and vessel elements, vessel diameters, and ray spacings of tension and opposite woods in Quercus mongolica Fischer and their radial variations were examined. Crystallinity indices and crystallites orientations of tension, opposite and lateral woods were also investigated. The lengths of fibers and vessel elements, and ray spacings of tension wood were longer and denser than those of opposite wood, respectively. In the latewood, the vessels of tension wood had a little larger diameters than those of opposite wood. whereas the vessel diameters of earlywood were similar in both woods. With the exception of vessel diameters of earlywood, there were differences between tension and opposite woods in all anatomical characteristics examined. In the radial variation pattern, the fiber lengths of both woods increased markedly to about 15th annual ring and thereafter remained virtually constant. The vessel element lengths of earlywood in tension wood increased to certain annual ring and thereafter were stabilized, but opposite wood had a relatively constant trend from pith to bark. Those of late wood in both woods increased to certain annual ring and thereafter showed constant patterns. Vessel diameters appeared to show similar trend in both woods. Ray spacings decreased to about 15 annual ring and thereafter were stabilized in both woods. In the fine structures, tension wood had higher crystallinity index and better crystallites orientation than opposite and lateral woods.

On the other hand, the fiber orientation at the surface and middle layer of the sheet controls the bending stiffness of paperboard. Therefore, a reliable measurement of paper surface fiber orientation gives us a magnificent tool to investigate and predict paper curling and cockling tendency, and provides the necessary information to fine-tune the manufacturing process for optimum quality. Many papers, especially heavily calendered and coated grades, do resist liquid and gas penetration very much, being beyond the measurement range of the traditional instruments or resulting inconveniently long measuring time per sample. The increased surface hardness and use of filler minerals and mechanical pulp make a reliable, non-leaking sample contact to the measurement head a challenge of its own. Paper surface coating causes, as expected, a layer which has completely different permeability characteristics compared to the other layers of the sheet. The latest developments in sensor technologies have made it possible to reliably measure gas flow n well controlled conditions, allowing us to investigate the gas penetration of open structures, such as cigarette paper, tissue or sack paper, and in the low permeability range analyze even fully greaseproof papers, silicon papers, heavily coated papers and boards or even detect defects in barrier coatings! Even nitrogen or helium may be used as the gas, giving us completely new possibilities to rank the products or to find correlation to critical process or converting parameters. All the modern paper machines include many on-line measuring instruments which are used to give the necessary information for automatic process control systems. Hence, the reliability of this information obtained from different sensors is vital for good optimizing and process stability. If any of these on-line sensors do not operate perfectly as planned (having even small measurement error or malfunction), the process control will set the machine to operate away from the optimum, resulting loss of profit or eventual problems in quality or runnability. To assure optimum operation of the paper machines, a novel quality assurance policy for the on-line measurements has been developed, including control procedures utilizing traceable, accredited standards for the best reliability and performance.

Interests in creating three-dimensionally designed fabric materials are growing rapidly in the sectors of the fashionable textiles with the creativity, new functions, and aesthetics. A number of finishing methods have been developed and proposed to add or create new functions and designs for silk fabrics. Due to the strong hydrogen bonds between the molecules of silk fibroins, the thermal treatment methods used in thermoplastic fiber processing, which can easily deform the synthetic filament fabrics to endow three-dimensional appearance to the fabrics, are not applicable to the silk fabric treatment. In order to modify the fine structure of silk fiber, neutral salt solution treatment methods have been suggested. In this study, the effect of the calcium nitrate solution on the physical and mechanical properties of silk fabrics was investigated by using the KES(Kawabata Evaluation System) equipment. Based on these findings, relationships between parameters, for example, the thickness and the compressional energy, the thickness and the compressional linearity, and the air permeability and the pore area statistical analysis were investigated. The relationships between the process parameters such as treatment temperature/time and the resulting fabric property parameters were also analyzed by using several SAS procedures.
In recent years, extreme rainfall and rainy seasons caused by climate change have caused river flooding and flooding damage, and it is urgent to solve economic and environmental problems in the city center due to the increase in the number of peak homes. The gap block, called the fitting block, is designed to facilitate rainwater pitching by forming a gap between the block and the block by forming a concave part and a protrusion of the block differently without the use of an existing spacer. In this study, for the production of such a gap block, the existing cement content was reduced and aramid fibers and exploration fibers, which are industrial by-products such as Goroslag fine powder and reinforcing fibers, were applied.

Among the dyeing industries, the tenter process is a process that improves the quality of fibers by drying and ironing (heat treatment) dyed fabrics, and drugs such as water repellents, antistatic agents, and fiber softeners are mainly used in these tenter processes. These drugs are vaporized in the process of treatment by high temperatures (180 ~ 230℃), and are observed in a complex form such as white smoke, oil mist, and fine dust, causing odor. To treat the complex exhaust gas at the rear end of the tenter facility, most companies operate by installing a wet scrubber and an adsorption tower alone or in parallel, but there are many problems. In particular, the insoluble oil mist at the rear end of the tenter has significantly low processing efficiency in the cleaning dust collection facility, and there is a problem in the facility by adsorption due to the occlusion phenomenon caused by the oil mist. In addition, the odor gas at the rear end of the tenter contains a lot of aldehydes, and in order to improve these various problems, a complex exhaust purification device using cyclone and electric support collector was developed. This study examined the applicability of economical and efficient technology by removing complex air pollution at the rear end of the tenter and applying improved technology than the existing technology.

This study was investigated to estimate optimal conditions and biological oxic denitrification to treat wastewater with low C/N ratio and high strength total inorganic nitrogen (TIN) concentration by using $A_2O$ fixed biofilm system. The lab-scale experimental system packed with media, which were composed of polyvinylidene chloride fiber (oxic basin) and ceramic ball (anaerobic and anoxic basin), was used. This system was operated with various influent alkalinities at the C/N(TOC/TIN) ratio of 0.5. The study results showed that TOC were removed over 96.0% at all operation conditions. The removal efficiencies over 93.5% for $NH_4{^+}-N$ and 81.8% for TIN were obtained at the alkalinity of about 1210mg/L(Run 5). Among the removal of TIN, 64.9% was occurred by biological denitrification at an oxic basin. It was confirmed through mass balance of alkalinity and nitrogen that the amount of alkalinity produced during biological denitrification at oxic basin was 2.49~3.46 mg Alkalinity/mg $NO_2{^-}-N$, ${\Delta}TOC/{\Delta}DEN$ of 0.34 (Run 5) was obtained at an oxic basin, which was less than the theoretical value of 1.22.

This study was aimed to investigate the tensile behaviors of PE(Polyethylene) fiber-reinforced highly ductile cementitious composites with different combinations of micro silica sand and normal sand(river sand) with maximum particle size of 4.75 mm. Flow test result indicated the increase of flowability with higher replacement ratio of river sand. There was no noticeable difference in the mean compressive strength with different replacement ratio of river sand, but the variation in the compressive strength increased as higher amount of river sand was adopted for the replacement. The difference in the uniaxial tensile strength was negligible, but the tensile strain capacity was significantly influenced by the replacement ratio of river sand. It is thought that increased density of multiple cracks induced improved tensile strain capacity when higher percentage of river sand was adopted for fine aggregate. The deviation in the strain capacity increased as the replacement ratio of river sand was higher, as in the compressive strength. This study presented the feasibility of using normal sand instead of micro silica sand for highly ductile cementitious composites with equivalent or better uniaxial tensile performance, even though it might increase the deviation in the performance.
To investigate the electromagnetic interference shielding efficiency (EMI SE) property based on heat treatment effects of carbon fibers in various temperatures, the polyacrilonitrle-based carbon fibers were prepared by electrospinning method and treated at 1073, 1323, 1873 and 2573 K. The surface morphology of carbon fibers was investigated by using FE-SEM and the carbon crystallization was studied by Raman spectroscopy based on effects of reaction temperatures. The electrical conductivity was obtained by measuring the surface resistance with four probe method on carbon crystallization. The permittivity, permeability and EMI SE were investigated by using S-parameter in the range of 800~4500 MHz. In case of carbon fibers treated at 2573 K, the improved carbon crystallization was confirmed by Raman spectrum and the enhanced electrical conductivity showing 54.7 S/cm was also observed. The permittivity was dramatically improved by factor of 4 based on effect of high reaction temperature. Eventually, the highly improved EMI SE value was obtained showing around 41.7 dB.
The structural characteristics of Antheraea yamamai and Antheraea pernyi silk were investigated by using x-ray diffraction method, IR spectroscopy and polarizing microscopy. The amino acid composition, fiber density, thermal decomposition temperature and glass transition temperature were also measured for relating these physical properties to the structure in comparison with those of Bombyx mori silk fiber. There was no significant structural difference between A. yamamai and A. pernyi silk fiber on an examination of x-ray diffraction curve and IR spectrum. Both of these wild silk fibers showed double diffraction peaks at the Bragg angle 2Θ16.7˚ and 20.5˚by x-ray diffraction analysis as well as IR absorption peaks for the bending vibration of specific groups related to ala-ala amino acid sequence. On the other hand, the x-ray diffraction curve and IR spectrum of Bombyx mori silk fiber are different from those of wild silk fibers, indicating different crystal structure as well as amino acid sequences. It showed under the polarizing microscope examination that the birefringence and optical orientation factor of wild silk fibers are much lower than those of B. mori silk. Also, the surface of degummed wild silk fibers was characterized by the longitudinal stripes of microfibrils in the direction of fiber axies. The amino acid composition, which is strongly related to the fine structure and properties, was not significantly different between these two wild silk fibers. However, the alanine content was somewhat less and polar amino acid content more for A. yamamai. As a result of fiber density measurement, the specific gravities of B. mori, A. pernyi and A. yamamai were 1.355~1.356, 1.308~1.311, 1.265~1.301g/㎤ in the order, respectively. The calculated crystallinity(%) was 64% for B. mori and 51~52% for wild silk fibers, which showed same trend by IR method in spite of somewhat higher value. The thermal decomposition behaviour was examined by DSC and TGA, showing that the degradation temperature was in the order of B mori, A. prernyi and A. yamamai at around 350$^{\circ}C$. It was also observed by TGA that the decomposition seems to proceed step by step according to their specific regions in the fiber structure, resulting the difference in their thermal stabilities. The glass transition temperature was turned out to be 220$^{\circ}C$ for B. mori, 240$^{\circ}C$ A. yamamai and 255$^{\circ}C$ A. pernyi by the dynamic mechanical analysis. It is expected that the chemical properties are affected by the dynamic mechanical behavior in accordance with their structural characters.

In this study, Na, Li, Sb, Sr were added as the modifiers to improve the mechanical proper ties of Al-Si alloys and their effects were compared one another Thermal analysis was carried out to measure the degree of undercooling, that is, the basic mechanism of modifying effect. The measurements of holding time and analyses of components of Al-Si alloys were carried out to compare the fading of the modifiers. Greater degree of undercooling was measured from the modified alloy than the normal alloys. In the modified alloy, the shape of Si was changed into a fine fiber phase or a lamellar phase from the coarse plate phase. There are not modifying effect of Sb below the $1.5^{\circ}C$ /sec of cooling rate. As the cooling rate increases, similar effects appears in the non-modified alloys like the modified alloys. Na and Li were faded in short time and were difficult to control on the melt, but Sb and Sr were scarcely faded for 6 hours of holding and were easy to control on the melt. Na and Sr are the good modifiers in terms of microstructure. Sb is the best modifier, but Na, Li are the inadequate modifiers in terms of fading.
