Transforming Growth Factor (TGF)-$\beta$ family, including TGF-$\beta$, bone morphorgenic protein (BMP), and activn, plays an important role in essential cellular functions such as proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, tissue remodeling, angiognesis, immune responses, and cell adhesions. TGF-$\beta$ predominantly transmits the signals through serine/threonine receptor kinases and cytoplasmic proteins called Smads. Since the discovery of TGF-$\beta$ in the early 1980s, the dysregulation of TGF-$\beta$/Smad signaling has been implicated in the pathogenesis of human diseases. Among signal transducers in TGF-$\beta$/Smad signaling, inhibitory Smads (I-Smads), Smad6 and Smad7, act as major negative regulators forming autoinhibitory feedback loops and mediate the cross-talking with other signaling pathways. Expressions of I-Smads are mainly regulated on the transcriptional levels and post-translational protein degradations and their intracellular levels are tightly controlled to maintain the homeostatic balances. However, abnormal levels of I-Smads in the pathological conditions elicit the altered TGF-$\beta$ signaling in cells, eventually causing TGF-$\beta$-related human diseases. Thus, exploring the molecular mechanisms about the regulations of I-Smads may provide the therapeutic clues for human diseases induced by the abnormal TGF-$\beta$ signaling.
The purpose of this study is to optimally allocate the human resources to tasks while minimizing the total daily human resource costs and smoothing the human resource usage. The human resource allocation problem (hRAP) under consideration contains two kinds of special constraints, i.e. operational precedence and skill constraints in addition to the ordinary constraints. To deal with the multiple objectives and the special constraints, first we designed this hRAP as a network problem and then proposed a Pareto multistage decisionbased genetic algorithm (P-mdGA). During the evolutionary process of P-mdGA, a Pareto evaluation procedure called generalized Pareto-based scale-independent fitness function approach is used to evaluate the solutions. Additionally, in order to improve the performance of P-mdGA, we use fuzzy logic controller for fine-tuning of genetic parameters. Finally, in order to demonstrate the applicability and to evaluate the performance of the proposed approach, P-mdGA is applied to solve a case study in a hotel, where the managers usually need helpful automatic support for effectively allocating hotel staff to hotel tasks.
This paper presents an algorithm for Real-Time Orbit Determination (RTOD) of navigation satellites for the Korean Regional Navigation Satellite System (KRNSS), when the navigation satellites generate ephemeris by themselves in abnormal situations. The KRNSS is an independent Regional Navigation Satellite System (RNSS) that is currently within the basic/preliminary research phase, which is intended to provide a satellite navigation service for South Korea and neighboring countries. Its candidate constellation comprises three geostationary and four elliptical inclined geosynchronous orbit satellites. Relative distance ranging between the KRNSS satellites based on Inter-Satellite Ranging (ISR) is adopted as the observation model. The extended Kalman filter is used for real-time estimation, which includes fine-tuning the covariance, measurement noise, and process noise matrices. Simulation results show that ISR precision of 0.3-0.7 m, ranging capability of 65,000 km, and observation intervals of less than 20 min are required to accomplish RTOD accuracy to within 1 m. Furthermore, close correlation is confirmed between the dilution of precision and RTOD accuracy.
URDG 758 tracks UCP 600 in format and style. This makes it easy for practitioners to understand various terms with a lot more clarity than in URDG 458, since practitioners see things in a format and style they are accustomed to. It is a fact that the provisions of the national law will prevail over the URDG 758. In many countries there is only limited written law concerning abstract guarantees; therefore any conflict between URDG 758 and the national law will be unlikely. In many instances the instructing party is different from the applicant - the party whose obligation is supported by the guarantee. And provision for amendment is a new addition in URDG 758. Inspiration was taken from UCP 600 with some fine tuning: accpet, reject or do nothing - and the implications of each of these. Chief among the innovations in the URDG 758 is the one banning non-documentary conditions. The consensus is that the new URDG 758 is a major improvement on URDG 458 in both comprehensiveness of scope and contents of rules. The URDG 758 is likely to become the international standard in the field of demand guarantees.
Over the past decade, researchers were able to solve complex medical problems as well as acquire deeper understanding of entire issue due to the availability of machine learning techniques, particularly predictive algorithms and automatic recognition of patterns in medical imaging. In this study, a technique called transfer learning has been utilized to classify Magnetic Resonance (MR) images by a pre-trained Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). Rather than training an entire model from scratch, transfer learning approach uses the CNN model by fine-tuning them, to classify MR images into Alzheimer's disease (AD), mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and normal control (NC). The performance of this method has been evaluated over Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging (ADNI) dataset by changing the learning rate of the model. Moreover, in this study, in order to demonstrate the transfer learning approach we utilize different pre-trained deep learning models such as GoogLeNet, VGG-16, AlexNet and ResNet-18, and compare their efficiency to classify AD. The overall classification accuracy resulted by GoogLeNet for training and testing was 99.84% and 98.25% respectively, which was exceptionally more than other models training and testing accuracies.
This paper proposes a parameter design method for multi-element resonant converters (MERCs) with a unique resonant zero point (RZP). This method is mainly composed of four steps. These steps include program filtration, loss comparison, 3D figure fine-tuning and priority compromise. It features easy implementation, effectiveness and universal applicability for almost all of the existing RZP-MERCs. Meanwhile, other design methods are always exclusive for a specific topology. In addition, a novel dual-CTL converter is also proposed here. It belongs to the RZP-MERC family and is designed in detail to explain the process of parameter selection. The performance of the proposed method is verified experimentally on a 500W prototype. The obtained results indicate that with the selected parameters, an extensive dc voltage gain is obtained. It also possesses over-current protection and minimal switching loss. The designed converter achieves high efficiencies among wide load ranges, and the peak efficiency reaches 96.9%.
We reported compositional separation(CS) into Co-enriched and Cri-enriched components inside the grains of Co-Cr based thin films prepared by rf sputtering. CS strongly depends on the sputtering conditions of substrate temperature and target composition. Tuning the microstructure of the Co-Cr films is important in order to employ the CS for high-density magnetic recording. We investigated the origin of CS from thermodynamic viewpoint. We employ a spinodal decomposition-like model to describe the origin of the CS in Co-Cr films. We consider the total free energy of the Co-Cr films as the sum of several free energies of; 1) thermodynamic mixing entropy of a binary solid solution, 2) magnetic ordering interaction(MOI) energy below the Curie temperature, and 3) excess interaction energy(XS) caused by the sputtering process as a function of temperature and composition. Those energies distorted the total free energy like the spinodal decomposition and caused the compositionally separated fine microstructure inside the grains. If the second derivative of the total free energy with respect to Cr composition becomes negative at a given substrate temperature, we may observe a metastable compositional separation inside the Co-Cr alloy films. We expect to exploit the microstructure of CS for ultra-high density magnetic recording.
Multimodal optimization is one of the most interesting topics in evolutionary computational discipline. Simple genetic algorithm, a basic and good-performance genetic algorithm, shows bad performance on multimodal problems, taking long generation time to obtain the optimum, converging on the local extrema in early generation. In this paper, we propose a new genetic algorithm with two new genetic mutational operators, i.e. global and local mutation operators, and no genetic crossover. The proposed algorithm is similar to Simple GA and the two genetic operators are as simple as the conventional mutation. They just mutate the genes from left or right end of a chromosome till the randomly selected gene is replaced. In fact, two operators are identical with each other except for the direction where they are applied. Their roles of shaking the population (global searching) and fine tuning (local searching) make the diversity of the individuals being maintained through the entire generation. The proposed algorithm is, therefore, robust and powerful.
We demonstrate that the performance of amorphous indium-gallium-zinc-oxide (IGZO) thin-film transistors (TFT) can be optimized by controlling the interfaces between IGZO and sandwiching insulators and by proper deposition of IGZO layer. Specifically, contact and channel resistances are decreased by reducing IGZO bulk resistance and optimizing dry-etch process, respectively. Field-effect mobility ($\mu_{FE}$) and subthreshold gate swing (S) are further enhanced by fine-tuning IGZO deposition condition.

The implementation of a low phase noise voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) is important for the signal integrity of wireless communication terminal. A low phase noise wideband VCO for a wireless local area network (WLAN) application is presented in this paper. A 6-bit coarse tune capacitor bank (capbank) and a fine tune varactor are used in the VCO to cover the target band. The simulated oscillation frequency tuning range is from 8.6 to 11.6 GHz. The proposed VCO is desgned using 65 nm CMOS technology with a high quality (Q) factor bondwire inductor. The VCO is biased with 1.8 V VDD and shows 9.7 mA current consumption. The VCO exhibits a phase noise of -122.77 and -111.14 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset from 8.6 and 11.6 GHz carrier frequency, respectively. The calculated figure of merit(FOM) is -189 dBC/Hz at 1 MHz offset from 8.6 GHz carrier. The simulated results show that the proposed VCO performance satisfies the required specification of WLAN standard.
