This study examines the impact of female representation on board of directors and audit committees on financial reporting quality, which also discusses the moderating role of family ownership in female representation on boards of directors and audit committees and financial reporting quality. The unbalanced panel is made up of 271 non-financial companies listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) from 2008 to 2019.The findings reveal that female representation on the board of directors has a large and negative impact on financial reporting, but female representation on the audit committee has a significant positive impact on financial reporting quality. Furthermore, the results reveal that family ownership has a negative impact on the relationship between female presence on boards of directors and financial reporting quality. Furthermore, the findings show that family ownership reduces the impact of female involvement in audit committees on the quality of financial reporting. However, family ownership has no direct impact on financial reporting quality. Our findings suggest that selecting females to serve on boards of directors and audit committees should be based on specific criteria (e.g., monitoring abilities, business competence, knowledge, and experience) rather than on family relationships.
Purpose This study aims to analyse the impact of the development of fintech and the emergence of internet primary banks due to the increasing use of smartphones on the performance of traditional local banks from both financial and non-financial perspectives. Return on equity (ROE) and return on assets (ROA) are used to assess the performance differences between the two types of banks and how these differences are affected by their financial characteristics. Design/methodology/approach Using return on equity (ROE) and return on assets (ROA) as indicators, we identified the differences in operating performance between the two types of banks. In addition, this study analysed the impact of financial characteristics on profitability through regression analysis with various control variables. We further studied the impact of non-financial characteristics (customer reviews, social media reactions, etc.) on operating performance. Findings The net interest margin ratio of local banks had a positive impact, while the marketable securities ratio of Internet primary banks had a negative impact. The non-financial analysis shows that the number of customer reviews and social media reactions have a significant impact on the performance of Internet primary banks, suggesting that customer satisfaction and positive market perception are important factors in the performance of Internet primary banks.

This study examines the impact of mergers on the financial performance of the Jordanian public shareholding companies. The study employs data collected for a sample of 10 Jordanian non-financial public firms that were engaged in legal horizontal merger deals between 2000 and 2013. The data was collected from the published annual financial reports of the merging companies and comparative companies for three years before the merger and three years after the merger. Event study methodology was applied to examine the data. Four measures of financial performance (FP) were used, which are return on assets (ROA), return on equity (ROE), earnings per share (EPS), and net profit margin (NPM). Two methods were used in the analysis - the change model and the intercept model using financial performance raw data and industry-adjusted data. The findings in general showed no significant impact of mergers on the financial performance of merging firms using the change model. However, by using the intercept model, significant impact of mergers on the financial performance was found on the sample of the study. The significant impact was found for mergers on the raw ROE of the merging firms, and on the ROA and NPM of the industry-adjusted firms.

The main purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of COVID-19 risk perception on the operational activities and performance of incubator tenant companies during the early stages of the COVID-19 outbreak. The primary variables considered for the operational activities of incubator tenant companies include financial management, research and development, marketing, and downsizing. Financial and non-financial performance are the key variables for business performance. The research findings indicate that COVID-19 risk perception has a significant impact only on downsizing, but it does not significantly affect financial management, research and development, or marketing. Additionally, COVID-19 risk perception has a significantly negative impact on both financial and non-financial performance. Financial management and marketing significantly influence financial performance, while research and development and downsizing do not seem to have a significant impact on financial performance. Conversely, research and development, as well as marketing activities, significantly impact non-financial performance, while financial management and downsizing lack a significant influence on non-financial performance. Finally, when examining incubator tenant companies categorized into early-stage, leap-stage, and growth-stage companies, it was observed that only marketing activities have a common and significant impact on non-financial performance across all three types of companies.
In this study, we empirically examine the impact of win-win growth effort of domestic large firms on their financial performance. Specifically, we classify the financial performance into three aspects such as profitability, stability and efficiency, select corresponding financial ratios to each aspect, and analyze the causal relationship between the firms' win-win growth effort and each of the financial ratios. In addition, we figure out the impact of the firms' win-win growth effort on their stock rate of return. From the analysis, we show that the win-win growth effort has a positive impact on the firms' profitability, stability and stock prices; however, it does not give statistically significant impact on the firms' efficiency with even negative impact on it. These results imply that the firms' win-win growth effort could bring about inefficiency in their business operations, but the effort could increase the firms' profitability and make their financial structure more stable. Furthermore, the effort could enhance the firms' image of leading CSR (corporate social responsibility), which in turn increase their stock values.

The study aims to examine the impact of liquidity and solvency management on the financial performance of Jordanian manufacturing companies listed on the Amman Stock Exchange, for a period of 10 years from 2010 to 2019. The size of the company was used as a control variable. The study employs Return on Assets (ROA) and Earnings Per Share (EPS) to measure financial performance. Current ratio (CR) and total debts to total assets were used as proxies for liquidity and solvency management, while logarithm of total assets was used to measure the size. Correlation and multi regression analyses have been applied to analyze the data. The results show a statistically significant impact of independent and control variables (liquidity and solvency management and the size of the company) on financial performance, while the detailed results of the hypotheses indicate that liquidity has an insignificant reverse impact on financial performance. With respect to other variables, there is a significant positive impact of size on performance and a significant negative impact of solvency on performance. The study suggests in light of results, increasing investments in companies' assets by focusing on internal financing, such that large-sized companies with low leverage will have a good performance.

Purpose: Research on financial development plays a crucial role in guiding and implementing policies for both financial development and economic growth. This study aims to evaluate the impact of financial development on the economic growth of Southeast Asian countries. Research design, data and methodology: The research utilizes data from 11 Southeast Asian countries from 2015 to 2022. Financial development data is proxied by credit distribution in private sector. Results: Based on the analysis using the FGLS model, it indicates that financial development has a positive impact on the economic growth of Southeast Asian countries. In addition, the study also examines the impact of state investment costs and FDI investment on economic growth. The results also show that foreign direct investment flows still play an important role in Southeast Asian countries (FDI has a positive impact on economic growth). State investment costs also impact economic growth, showing that the development of public investment also brings good development to countries. Conclusions: These results suggest that credit policies for financial development in general, and the development of private credit in particular, play a significant role in these countries. Building a system to promote the activities of private sector economies will help stimulate the economic development of Southeast Asian countries.

This study aims to investigate the impact of financial distress on the cash holding of non-financial companies in Indonesia as the largest emerging economy among ASEAN countries. Furthermore, the sub-sample business group to be investigated were divided into two, groups namely affiliated and non-affiliated groups. This was carried out to ascertain the difference in the impact of financial distress on cash holding between both groups. Sample collection was based on all firms listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange (IDX) during 2008-2017, comprising 137 firms. The results showed that using the two-step system Generalized Method of Moments (GMM), the coefficients for financial distress (Z-Score) indices were positive and significant for all models. Therefore, the higher the Z-Score value, the lower the company's financial distress and vice versa. This implies that the lower the company's financial distress, the lower the cash holding. Furthermore, a positive and significant impact of the Z-Score on cash holding for non-affiliated groups was discovered. This implies that there are differences in the amount of cash holding between affiliated and non-affiliated groups. This result indicates that non-affiliated groups hold more cash during financial distress. However, these results had cash policy implications, particularly for non-affiliated groups.

The study aims to assess the impact of factors on the access to financial services by Vietnamese farmers. The number of respondents in this study is 402 household heads participating in six diverse agricultural value chains in Vietnam. The explanatory variables of the Multinomial Logit model estimates variables at the individual characteristics while the Mixed Logit model can combine the two types of variables together to estimate the effects simultaneously. On the other hand, the Ordinal Logit model is used to evaluate the determinants of the increase in the quantity of financial services used by individuals. The estimation results show that male-headed households have more access to financial services than females. Younger farmers are more likely to use formal financial services than the elderly. Financial literacy, land ownership, and shocks in agricultural production all have a positive impact on the probability of dealing with banks. In addition, the degree of linkage and credibility of the value chain have a significant positive impact on the accessibility of financial services to farmers. The findings of this study suggest that limiting gender inequality, focusing on youth marketing and developing agricultural value chains will have a positive impact on farmers' access to financial services.
