In this study, we analyze the impacts of the trapezoidal fin shape of a double-gate FinFET on the electrical characteristics of circuits. The trapezoidal nature of a fin body is generated by varying the angle of the sidewall of the FinFET. A technology computer-aided-design (TCAD) simulation shows that the on-state current increases, and the capacitance becomes larger, as the bottom fin width increases. Several circuit performance metrics for both digital and analog circuits, such as the fan-out 4 (FO4) delay, ring oscillator (RO) frequency, and cut-off frequency, are evaluated with mixed-mode simulations using the 3D TCAD tool. The trapezoidal nature of the FinFET results in different effects on the driving current and gate capacitance. As a result, the propagation delay of an inverter decreases as the angle increases because of the higher on-current, and the FO4 speed and RO frequency increase as the angle increases but decrease for wider angles because of the higher impact on the capacitance rather than the driving strength. Finally, the simulation reveals that the trapezoidal angle range from $10^{\circ}$ to $20^{\circ}$ is a good tradeoff between larger on-current and higher capacitance for an optimum trapezoidal FinFET shape.
The sectioned-body morphometric characteristics of the diploid and triploid marine medaka, Oryzias dancena, of both sexes were examined to collect basic data on the significant differences between the diploid and triploid fish. Significant differences between the diploid and triploid fish in both sexes were observed in the body circumference anterior to the base of the pelvic fin, the body circumference anterior to the base of the anal fin, the body circumference anterior to the base of the dorsal fin, the area anterior to the base of the pelvic fin, the area anterior to the base of the anal fin, the area anterior to the base of the dorsal fin, the total height anterior to the base of the pelvic fin, the total height anterior to the base of the anal fin, the height anterior to the base of the pelvic fin, the height anterior to the base of the anal fin, the width anterior to the base of the anal fin, the belly thickness II anterior to the base of the anal fin, section shape 2-1, and section shape 4-1 (p<0.05). These measurements were greater in the triploid marine medaka of both sexes than those in the diploid marine medaka of both sexes, and they were also greater in the male diploid and triploid marine medaka than those in the corresponding female fish. Therefore, the sectioned-body morphometric dimensions were greater in the triploid males than those in the triploid females and the diploid fish in this study.

A comparative study on the trade-off between the drive current and the total gate capacitance in double-gate (DG) and triple-gate (TG) FinFETs is performed by using 3-D device simulation. As the first result, we found that the optimum ratio of the hardmask oxide thickness ($T_{mask}$) to the sidewall oxide thickness ($T_{ox}$) is $T_{mask}/T_{ox}$=10/2 nm for the minimum logic delay ($\tau$) while $T_{mask}/T_{ox}$=5/1~2 nm for the maximum intrinsic gate capacitance coupling ratio (ICR) with the fixed channel length ($L_G$) and the fin width ($W_{fin}$) under the short channel effect criterion. It means that the TG FinFET is not under the optimal condition in terms of the circuit performance. Second, under optimized $T_{mask}/T_{ox}$, the propagation delay ($\tau$) decreases with the increasing fin height $H_{fin}$. It means that the FinFET-based logic circuit operation goes into the drive current-dominant regime rather than the input gate load capacitance-dominant regime as $H_{fin}$ increases. In the end, the sensitivity of $\Delta\tau/{\Delta}H_{fin}$ or ${{\Delta}I_{ON}}'/{\Delta}H_{fin}$ decreases as $L_G/W_{fin}$ is scaled-down. However, $W_{fin}$ should be carefully designed especially in circuits that are strongly influenced by the self-capacitance or a physical layout because the scaling of $W_{fin}$ is followed by the increase of the self-capacitance portion in the total load capacitance.

A pin fin is optimized based on the increasing rate of heat loss by using a two-dimensional analytic method. The optimum heat loss, corresponding optimum thermal resistance and fin length are presented as a function of the fin base thickness, convection characteristic numbers ratio, fin outer radius and ambient convection characteristic number. One of the results shows that both the optimum heat loss and fin length decrease linearly whereas the optimum thermal resistance increases very slightly with increase of the fin base thickness.
An experimental study was conducted to investigate the heat transfer characteristics of a circular finned-tube heat exchanger. The nineteen cases of configuration varying fin material, fin outer diameter and fin pitch were tested by means of the experiment and the numerical calculation. The measured heat transfer data for the circular finned-tube heat exchanger were provided. A transition of heat transfer was found in the case of low fin pitch. The thermal conductivity of fin affected on the pure heat transfer coefficient.
Stabilizer fins are installed on each side of a ship to control its roll motion. The most common stabilizer fin is a rolling control system that uses the lift force on the fin surface. If the angle of attack of a stabilizer fin is zero or the speed is zero, it cannot control the roll motion. The Coanda effect is well known to generate lift force in marine field. The performance of stabilizer fin that applies the Coanda effect has been verified by model tests and numerical simulations. It was found that a stabilizer fin that applied the Coanda effect at Cj = 0.085 and a zero angle of attack exactly coincided with that of the original fin at α = 26°. In addition, the power needed to generate the Coanda effect was not high compared to the motor power of the original stabilizer fin.
Air side heat transfer and pressure drop for ø9.52 fin-tube heat exchanger with various types of slit and louver fins were measured, and compared with wave-slit fin. Longitudinal and transverse tube spacings of the heat exchangers are 21.65mm and 25mm respectively. Actual heat exchanger was tested using water, and the tests were performed for 2 row heat exchangers with 3 different fin spacings, 1.3, 1.5 and 1.7mm. The overall performance of the enhanced fins was evaluated by comparing heat transfer coefficient with respect to fan power.
A comparison of the fin effectiveness, thermal resistance, and fin efficiency between the symmetric triangular fin and the symmetric trapezoidal fin which has various slopes of the fin side is made. Also the relation between Biot number and the non-dimensional fin length for equal amount of heat loss from these fins is shown. For these analyses, a forced analytic method is used. In particular, the equation for the heat loss is used simultaneously for both the symmetric triangular fin and the symmetric trapezoidal fins by just adjusting the value of the slope factor. The value of Biot number varies from 0.01 to 1.0 and the non-dimensional fin length varies from 0.01 to 10. For simplicity, the root temperature and fin's surrounding convection coefficients are assumed constant and the condition is assumed to be steady state.
This study investigates the pressure drop and heat transfer characteristics of heat exchanger according to the combination of fin configuration and fin pitch of each row by the similitude experiments with the finned-tube geometry scaled as large as four times Finned-tube heat exchanger has 2 rows, and fin geometry consists of two cases, louver-louver and louver-slit. Fin pitch is varied with three types in each case, 6-6 mm, 8-8 mm and 8-6 mm. Results show that total heat transfer can be occurred evenly at each row by varying the fin pitch of 1st row and 2nd row. Heat transfer rate and pressure drop characteristics change according to the combination for fin geometry and fin pitch.
Heat sink has extended surface area for enhanced heat transfer. The enhanced convection heat transfer has been used widely, such as cooling electronic chips in the electronics industry. Heat sink usually requires an increase in the heat transfer and a decrease in the pressure drop, and must improve the performance in the flow field of industrial plants. In this study, wing fin heat sink was studied and tests were conducted in a rectangular cross sectional channel with wing fin heat sinks. The leading and trailing ends of a wing fin have a sharp edge, simulating the airfoil feature. Empirical correlations have been developed for wing fin heat sink types. And wing fin heat sinks have better cooling performance than elliptic fin and square fin types.
