Porous affinity chitosan and chitin membranes with good mechanical strength and high protein binding capacity were prepared by using silica particles as porogen. The maximum binding capacity of affinity chitosan membrane for BSA protein is 21.8mg/mL, and that of affinity chitin membrane for lysozyme enzyme is 26.1mg/mL. Chromatographic separations of BSA and lysozyme proteins using the porous affinity chitosan and chitin membranes were performed with change of the flow rate, loading amount and concentration of protein loading solutions. Protein eluted amount and binding yield were calculated from the filtration chromatograms consisted of loading/washing/elution sequences. Protein binding amount and yield were increased with decreasing of flow rate, increasing of loading amount and concentration of protein loading solutions. Those results suggest that the porous chitosan and chitin membranes prepared by using silica particles as porogen are suitable in affinity filtration chromatography for large scale separation of proteins.
In this study the formation of the particle layer near the membrane surface was observed for the crossflow micro filtration module by the high speed video system. The microfiltration membrane of 0.2 {\mu}m$ nominal pore size and the 0.05 wt% solution of the polyacryl-copolymer particle distributed between 100 and 180 {\mu}m$ were used for the experiment. The feed rates were changed to 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, 1.25 and 1.5 cm/sec while the permeate rates were maintained at $20{\pm}3%$ of the feed rates, respectively, It was observed that the particles were accumulated rapidly on the membrane surface as the feed flow rate increased, but the particles were not accumulated at 0.5 cm/sec, Also, it was confirmed that almost all of the particles in the layer already formed during filtration were removed within 30 seconds as the feed flow rate increased to 1.88 cm/sec.

The performance of a domestic ceramic membrane with pore size of $0.1{\mu}m$ was evaluated to produce drinking water. A pilot-scale ceramic membrane filtration plant with a capacity of $1m^3/d$ was operated at the filtration flux of $3.0m^3/m^2{\cdot}d$ to investigate the effect of both backwash interval and pre-ozonation on TMP (trans-membrane pressure) increasing rate. The TMP increased with increasing the backwash interval. However, the application of pre-ozonation reduced the TMP increasing rate remarkably. When 1 mg/L of ozone was dosed with contact time of 5 min, TMP increasing rate at the backwash interval of 1 hr was reduced by 30%. This result indicated that pre-ozonation was very effective in reducing membrane fouling. There was almost no change in TMP increasing rate when the ozone contact time was maintained in the range of 5 to 15 min. Increasing ozone concentration up to 3 mg/L showed beneficial effect on TMP increasing rate.
Conventionally used flocculation tanks require large space and high energy requirement for mixing. Static flocculators using gravel bed filter operate at a lower flow rate ($5-10m^3/m^2{\cdot}h$). Further, the cleaning of this system is difficult. A novel high rate static flocculator/filter developed at UTS packed with buoyant media such as polystyrene, polypropylene has been found to operate at higher filtration rates (30-45 $5-10m^3/m^2{\cdot}h$). They can easily be cleaned with minimal energy. Detailed experiments conducted with an artificial kaolin clay solution show that buoyant media is an excellent static flocculator in producing uniform filterable microflocs (12-15 m) even when it is operated at a high rate of 30-40 m/h. Detailed filtration experiments were conducted in a wastewater treatment plant to treat the biologically treated effluent with a floating media of depth of 120 cm. This filter was able to remove majority of phosphorus and remaining solids. It reduced significantly the fecal coliforms and fecal streptoccoci, thus requiring less amount of chlorine for disinfection. The advantage of this system is the low energy and water requirement for cleaning of filter bed. The periodic backwash adopted 30 seconds air and water and 30 seconds water cleaning every 90 minutes filter operation. Thisis equivalent to 1-2% of filtered water production. Mechanical cleaning system on the other hand, requires very low energy requirement (<1% of filtered water production).
The removal efficiencies of 2-methylisoborneol (MIB) and geosmin were investigated to reveal removal characteristics of typical organic compounds causing disagreeable taste and odor at the conventional water treatment plant installed with pulsator clarifier patented by the French company $Degr{\acute{e}}mont$. The injection rate of Powdered Activated Carbon (PAC) into water was changed step wisely as we conducted jar tests in the laboratory and water treatment in the actual plant. 2-MIB concentration decreased linearly while geosmin did exponentially along with the injection rate of PAC at our jar tests. The removal efficiency of geosmin by PAC injection was considerably higher than that of 2-MIB. In the real pulsator clarifier, 2-MIB concentration started decreasing as the injection rate reached up to 10 mg/L of PAC. On the other hand, the concentration of geosmin in water decreased proportional to the injection rate of PAC. In the sand filtration, removal efficiencies of 2-MIB and geosmin on July were much higher than those on March. It was carefully suggested beforehand and found afterwards that general microorganisms notably existed in the sand filter with no chlorine in filter influent and backwash water and the sand filter biologically activated removed much more odor compounds. It was considered as the reason why the removal efficiency of 2-MIB and geosmin was increased. The microbial activity maybe increased in summer with water temperature rising and low filtration rate possibly increased contact time between odor compounds and general microorganisms.
The aim of this study is to scientifical conservation for the Sin An Ship. The test object is Pinus massoniana and Cunninghamia lanceolata of Sin An Ship's timber .Comtrast object is water soaked fresh wood of Pinus densiflora and Cryptomeria japonica The results were as follows.1. M. C is 280.9% in high degraded Planking board,237.5% in low degraded Planking board,158.6% in fresh wood of Pinus densiflora,222.6% in Bulkhead167.3% in fresh wood of Cryptomeria japonica2. Absorption rate of P.E.G is good at heating condition ($55∼60^{\circ}C$), especially in highdegraded wood.3. The dimensional change of wood during air drying is somewhat shrinked That's 7.22% in low degraded Planking board9.8% in high degraded Planking board and 4.11% in water soaked Pinus densiflora.4. The dimensional change of wood during P.E.G treatment is mostly swollen of wery small quantity.5. As it has been reported that morphine induce antidiuresis, and antinatriuresis along with decrease in renal hemodynamics when given intracerebroventricularly[ivt], the renal action of nalorphine, a partial antagonist of morphine action, and its influence upon the morphine action were investigated in this study. $10{\mu}g/kg$ of nalorphine given into the lateral ventricle of the rabbit brain tended to decrease renal plasma flow and glomerular filtration rate and increase the reabsorption of free water in the tubules. $100{\mu}g/kg$ ivt significantly decreased urine flow rate and increased free water reabsorption, and tended to increase electrolyte excretion in spite of decrease in renal plasma flow and glomerular filtration, suggesting that ADH also involved in the antidiuresis. Morphine hydrochloride, $10{\mu}g/kg$, ivt, produced marked decrement in renal hemodynamics along with decreased excretions of sodium, potassium and water, and these morphine actions were alleviated by nalorphine given 20 min later. The natriuretic action of ivt nalorphine manifested itself uninfluenced by the morphine. These observations indicate that nalorphine ivt produces renal actions similar to those of morphine, though less potent, and that it can antagonize the latter action. It is suggested that morphine influences renal hemodynamics through nerve by stimulating the 'morphine receptor' in the brain, whereas nalorphine liberates ADH by the agonistic action on the 'nalorphine receptor'.
The radioisotopic measurement of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) has required analysis of serial blood or urine samples over several hours, and does not allow measurement of separate renal function unless separate catherterization of individual ureters is done. Gates described isotopic method for the measurement of global and unilateral GFR based on the determination by scintillation camera of the fraction of the injected dose of $^{99m}Tc-diethylenetriaminepentaacetic$ acid (DTPA) present in the kidneys 2-3 minutes after its administration. We calculated GFR according to Gates' method in 58 adult patients with various levels of global renal function using $^{99m}Tc$ DTPA and validated this technique by correlation with 24 hour creatinine clearance. A good correlation was observed between 24 hour creatinine clearance and GFR calculated by Gates' formula, with an r value of 0.91 (p<0.01). We concluded that determination of GFR according to the Gates' formula allows good and reproducible prediction of GFR with great rapidity and simplicity rendering this technique suitable for clinical practice.
