  • Profibus-DP is the performance-optimized version of Profibus, specifically dedicated to time-critical communication between automation systems and distributed peripherals. It is included into the International Fieldbus Standard IEC 61158. In this paper, The ASIC for Profibus-DP simple and intelligent slave is proposed and implemented. It can be fully compatible with Siemens LSPM2 as a pin-to-pin base and it also has a high-level function that can replace current intelligent slave boards with one chip. Also it can be used without special OS coding unlike SPC3 of Siemens.

  • In recent years, distributed control systems(DCS) using fieldbus such as CAN have been being applied to process systems but it is very difficult to design the DCS in order to guarantee the given end-to-end constraints such as precedence constraints, time constraints, and periods and priorities of tasks and messages.   • EtherCAT is an Ethernet-based fieldbus system standardized in IEC 61158 and SEMI, and widely used in the fields of factory automation, semiconductor equipment and robotics. In this paper, a real-time EtherCAT master is implemented on Linux operating systems and its performances are evaluated. To enhance the real-time capability of mainline Linux kernel, Xenomai is applied as a real-time framework and an open source EtherCAT master stack, Simple Open EtherCAT Master (SOEM), is installed on it. Unlike other studies, the real-time performance of the EtherCAT master is evaluated at the output of the network interface card, so that the evaluation results include all possible effects from the EtherCAT master system. The implemented EtherCAT master can send and receive packets up to 20KHz control frequency with low jitter, even in stressed condition.

  • Industrial networks has been developing various technologies from fieldbus technology to industrial Ethernet and time-sensitive networking. The industry expects that the 5G mobile network will solve the diverse and highly specific industrial site requirements. Accordingly, 3GPP has been developing standard functions to provide ultra-high reliability, ultra-high speed, ultra-connection, and ultra-low latency services, and 3GPP Rel-16 began developing ultra-low latency and ultra-high reliability communication functions for 5G mobile networks to support vertical industries. In this paper, we show the related standardization trends and requirements to apply industrial IoT service scenarios to 5G mobile networks, and in particular, we introduce 5G system features and extended 5G system architecture to provide time sensitive communication and time synchronization services.

  • EtherCAT is an Ethernet-based fieldbus system standardized in IEC 61158 and SEMI, and widely used in the fields of factory automation, semiconductor equipment and robotics. In this paper, an EtherCAT master is implemented on an embedded board with Arm based 64-bit quad-core processor and its jitter performance is evaluated at the output of the network interface to include all the effects of the entire system in the results. For the EtherCAT master system, an open source EtherCAT master stack, Simple Open EtherCAT Master (SOEM), is installed on PREEMPT_RT patched Linux operating system for real-time operation. The results show that the jitter performance is comparable to that of Xenomai-based master and the EtherCAT master with two master instances has similar jitter performance to the EtherCAT master with one master instance.

  • This paper presents a network-based automation system for the detection of metallic objects in food and livestock. A metal detector is a core equipment used for the inspection required by HACCP. Since the existing metal detectors are manufactured as a single-body equipment, it is difficult to take into account various user requirements for the system. In order to overcome the drawback, this study presents a network-based automation system for metal detector utilizing an industrial fieldbus and modular components. The proposed system can effectively consider the various customer requirements and control schemes. The proposed system can also achieve the improvement in speed and success rate of detecting metallic objects. The effectiveness of the proposed system is demonstrated through a various experiments.

  • EtherCAT is an Ethernet-based fieldbus system standardized in IEC 61158 and SEMI, and widely used in the fields of factory automation, semiconductor equipment and robotics. In this paper, without operating system, we have implemented an EtherCAT master with an open source EtherCAT master stack SOEM on STM32 Nucleo-144 board with an STM32F767 microcontroller. And its jitter performance has been evaluated at the output of the network port to include all the effects of the entire system in the results. The results show that the implemented EtherCAT master has precise control performance for control frequencies from 1KHz to 8KHz and relatively superior jitter performance compared to the EtherCAT masters with real-time patched Linux operating system.

  • EtherCAT is an Ethernet-based fieldbus system standardized in IEC 61158 and SEMI, and widely used in the fields of factory automation, semiconductor equipment and robotics. In this paper, we summarize the current status of Xenomai real-time framework and RTnet, which are essential for Linux operating systems to operate in real-time, and implement a real-time EtherCAT master system with these open sources. The real-time performance of the implemented EtherCAT master is evaluated according to Intel network controllers 82574L, I219, I210, and I225, respectively. The results show that the implemented EtherCAT master provides precise control performance for control frequencies from 1KHz to 8KHz and similar performance for I219, I210, and I225, and relatively slightly larger jitter for 82574L.

  • In this paper, we propose the protocol for construction of smart factory. The proposed protocol for construction of smart factory consists of an OPC UA Server/Client, a technology of TSN realtime communication, a NTP & PTP time synchronization protocol, a FieldBus protocol and conversion module, a technology of saving data for data transmit latency and synchronization protocol. OPC UA server/client is a system integration protocol which makes interface industrial hardware device and supports standardization which allows in all around area and also in not independent from any platform. A technology of TSN realtime communication provides an high sensitive time management and control technology in a way of sharing specific time between devices in the field of high speed network. NTP & PTP time synchronization protocol supports IEEE1588 standardization. A fieldbus protocol and conversion module provide an extendable connectivity by converting industrial protocol to OPC. A technology of saving data for data transmit latency and synchronization protocol provide a resolution function for a loss and latency of data. Results from testing agencies to assess the performance of proposed protocol for construction of smart factory, response time was 0.1367ms, synchronization time was 0.404ms, quantity of concurrent access was 100ea, quantity of interacting protocol was 5ea, data saving and synchronization was 1,000 nodes. It produced the same result as the world's highest level.
