The use of polypropylene fibers in concrete has been widely advertised by the fiber manufacturers. However, the behavior of concrete containing plastic fibers has not been fully understood. The effects of fiber on concrete have been forcused on shrinkage crack control mainly from field observation, and the mechanism and the side effect of fiber such as workability reduction have been neglicted. In this paper, the effect of fiber on workability and shrinkage properties have been studied. The addition of fiber significantly reduce workability and requires additional water to maintain the workability, which causes adversal effects on concrete properties.

The Subaru telescope is a 8.2m optical-infrared telescope operated by National Astronomical Observatory of Japan since 2000. Its wide field observation capability with good image quality makes the telescope one of the best astronomical facilities. We Subaru Telescope is seeking for international partners for the telescope operation to share science observations, future strategy and development. In the course of this effort, EAO and us exchanged a letter of intent on the planning of collaboration on the Subaru operation in this June. I introduce the contents of the Subaru-EAO LOI and the basic concepts of the Subaru international partnership in addition to a brief report of the current status of the observatory.

This study was conducted to evaluate in-situ bioremediation ability of Bioil-D, microbial material for oil degradation, at a gas station that had been treated by SVE system. TPH concentrations and total contaminated soil volume were rapidly decreased after Bioil-D treatment. The performance of Bioil-D was also estimated based on the observation of microbial population at the soil samples and $CO_2$ concentration produced at the extraction wells. The field study showed a successful work of Bioil-D.

Principal Component Regression(PCR) and Partial Least Squares Regression(PLSR) are the two most popular regression techniques in chemometrics. In the field of chemometrics usually the number of regressor variables greatly exceeds the number of observation. So we have to reduce the number of regressors to avoid the identifiability problem. In this paper we compare PCR and PLSR techniques combined with various robust regression methods including regression depth estimation. We compare the efficiency, goodness-of-fit and robustness of each estimators under several contamination schemes.

Extreme temperature impacts on field crop are of key concern and increasingly assessed, however the studies have seldom taken into account the automatic adaptations such as shifts in planting dates, phenological dynamics and cultivars. In this present study, trial data on rice phenology, agro-meteorological hazards and yields during 1981-2009 at 120 national agro-meteorological experiment stations were used. The detailed data provide us a unique opportunity to quantify extreme temperature impacts on rice yield more precisely and in a setting with automatic adaptations.

자체집광(Self-focusing)현상은 매우 높은 집적도를 가지는 광기록매체의 제작에 응용 가능하기 때문에 많은 연구자들에 의해 광범위하게 연구되어왔다. 그동안의 연구에서는 자체집광에 대한 분석방법으로서 빛살의 벡터특성을 무시한 비선형 슈뢰딩거 방정식(nonlinear Schr dinger equation)을 이용하였는데, 이 경우 축상으로 대칭적인 빛살이 입사될 때 발생되는 다중 필라멘테이션(Multiple Filamentation)현상은 입사빛살에 첨가되는 random noise에 기인한다는 것이 유일한 해석방법이었다. During a field survey on Korean coastal marine waters, two ciliates belonging to the genera Pseudovorticella Foissner & Schiffmann, 1975 and Frontonia Ehrenberg, 1838 in the class Oligohymenophorea de Puytorac et al., 1974, were collected. Even though the two genera are very common in the aquatic ecosystems, they had been superficially studied in Korean habitats. Using the observation of living cells and specimens impregnated by protargol, silver carbonate, and silver nitrate, two newly recorded ciliate are identified as P. paramarina Sun, Ji, Warren & Song, 2009 and F. ocularis Bullington, 1939. A brief diagnosis, remark, and comprehensive micrographs are provided for each species.

Recently, there have been discussions among national observatories in East Asia about the possibility of EAO and the Subaru observatory forming a partnership. The official EAO-Subaru partnership can make the powerful wide-field observation capabilities of Subaru available to Korean astronomers through EAO, and also can serve as an excellent platform to gather astronomers in East Asia together for flourishing regional collaboration activities. A working group has been formed to outline the framework of the EAO-Subaru partnership, and the working group report has been prepared. In this talk, I will explain the proposed partnership framework in the working group report. Inputs are very welcome from KAS members about the proposed framework.
