Morningside Pi2 Pulsation Observed in Space and on the Ground

  • In this study, we examined a morningside Pi2 pulsation, with a non-substorm signature, that occurred in very quiet geomagnetic conditions (Kp = 0) at 05:38 UT on December 8, 2012, using data obtained by Van Allen Probes A and B (VAP-A and VAP-B, respectively) and at a ground station. Using 1 sec resolution vector magnetic field data, we measured the X-component of the pulsation from the Abu Simbel ground station (L = 1.07, LT = UT +2 hr, where LT represents local time) in Egypt. At the time of the Pi2 event, Abu Simbel and VAP-A (L = 3.3) were in the morning sector (07:38 LT and 07:59 MLT, respectively, where MLT represents magnetic local time), and VAP-B was in the postmidnight sector (04:18 MLT and L = 5.7). VAP-A and VAP-B observed oscillations in the compressional magnetic field component (Bz), which were in close agreement with the X-component measurements of the Pi2 pulsation that were made at Abu Simbel. The oscillations observed by the satellites and on the ground were in phase. Thus, we concluded that the observed morningside Pi2 pulsation was caused by the cavity resonance mode rather than by ionospheric current systems.

  • 본 논문은 비디오 카메라 및 프로젝션 TV 등 영상 기기의 요소 부품인 캠코더용 Iris Assembly에 있어서 동작원리, 구성부품의 특성, 동작특성 해석과 각 요소부품의 개발시 중요 Know-how 등을 언급한다. 저전력용으로 소형이지만 간단한 구조로 만들기 위한 자계회로를 실현하였다. 특히 잔류 자계의 영향과 동작 시간의 관계를 실험적으로 규명한다. 소형 정밀부품의 국산화 개발에 있어서 필요한, 간편한 구동 시스템 원리와 그로 인해 발생하는 비선형성 토오크의 문제점 및 개발 공정 등을 설명하고, 각 부품의 Burr 최소화를 위한 점검 요소, 소형 요소 부품의 공정 등을 다룬다.

Real Time Monitoring of Ionic Species Generated from Laser-Ablated Pb$(Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48})O_3$ Target Using Pulsed-Field Time-Of-Flight Mass spectrometer

  • The characteristics of the ablation plume generated by 532 nm Nd: YAG laser irradiation of a Pb(Zr0.52Ti0.48)O3 (PZT) target have been investigated using a pulsed-field time-of-flight mass spectrometer (TOFMS). The relative abundance of O+, Ti+, Zr+, Pb+, TiO+, and ZrO+ ions has been measured and discussed. TiO+ and ZrO+ ions were also found to be particularly stable within the laser ablation plasma with respect to PbO+ species. The behavior of the temporal distributions of each ionic species was studied as a function of the delay time between the laser shot and the ion extraction pulse. The most probable velocity of each ablated ion is estimated to be Vmp=1.1-1.6x 105 cm/s at a laser fluence of 1.2 J/cm2, which is typically employed for the thin film deposition of PZT. The TOF distribution of Ti+ and Zr+ ions shows a trimodal distribution with one fast and two slow velocity components. The fast velocity component (6.8x 10' cm/s) appears to consist of directly ablated species via nonthermal process. The second component, originated from the thermal evaporation process, has a characteristic velocity of 1.4-1.6 x 105 cm/s. The slowest component (1.2 x 105 cm/s) is composed of a dissociation product formed from the corresponding oxide ion.

근거리장에서 HWAW 기법의 수치해석적 검증 (Numerical Verification of HWAW Method in the Near Field)

  • 기존의 표면파 기법들은 근거리장 효과를 피하기 위하여 적절한 실험 방법 및 필터 기준을 제시하고 있다. HWAW 기법은 다른 표면파와는 다르게 이러한 근거리장 영역에서의 파의 거동을 적극적으로 활용하여 지반의 전단파 속도 주상도를 도출한다. 에너지가 작은 저주파 신호를 시간-주파수 해석을 통해 획득하며 체적파의 영향을 고려한 단일 배열 역산을 통해 가능하다. 이러한 사항을 검증하기 위해서 근거리장에서의 탄성파의 전파 형상을 수치해석을 통하여 모사하였으며 다양한 지반 형태를 대표하기 위해 5개의 지반모델을 구성하였다. 수치모델링을 통해 획득한 시간영역 신호를 이용하여 HWAW 기법으로 실험분산곡선을 도출하였다. 도출된 실험 분산곡선과 3차원 정모델링(Kausel의 방법)을 통해 계산된 이론 분산곡선의 형상이 각 위치에서 저의 일치하였다. 그러므로 HWAW 기법을 수행하는데 있어 근거리장 영역이 포함된 실험 분산곡선을 획득하여도 Kausel의 방법을 이용하여 역산을 수행할 경우 신뢰성 있는 지반의 전단파 속도를 도출하는 것이 가능하다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

라만 라이다 시스템을 이용한 라이다 중첩함수 산출 (Retrieval of Lidar Overlap Factor using Raman Lidar System)

  • The range-dependent overlap factor of a lidar system can be determined experimentally if a Raman backscatter signal by molecule is measured in addition to the usually observed elastic backscatter signal, which consists of a molecular component and a particle component. The direct determination of the overlap profile is presented and applied to a lidar measurement according to variation of telescope field-of-view and distance between telescope and transmitting laser. The retrieval of extinction coefficient by Raman method can generate high errors for heights below planetary boundary layer if the overlap effect is ignored. The overlap correction method presented here has been successfully applied to experimental data obtained in Gwangju, Korea.

  • Flow field downstream of an inducer was measured to see the flow and performance characteristics of a turbopump inducer. A large axisymmetric collector instead of a volute casing was installed to obtain circumferentially uniform flow - without interaction of the inducer and the volute. A conventional 3-hole probe was used to measure the flow. At inducer exit axial component of absolute velocity decreased on hub region with decrease in flow rate. Tangential velocity component static pressure, and total pressure increased from hub to tip. Relative flow angle from tangential direction was a little higher than outlet blade angle at flow coefficient $\varphi$=0.087 and 0.073. Dynamic pressure was $53\%$ of the mean total pressure at inducer exit at $\varphi$=0.073.

  • The electro-rheological(ER) fluids for smart hydraulic system are a class of colloidal dispersion which exhibit large reversible Changes in their rheological behavior when they are subjected to external electrical fields. This paper presents experimental results on material properties of an ER fluids subjected to electrical fatigues. As a first step, ER fluid is made of methyl cellulose(MC) choosing 25% of particle weight-concentration. Following the construction of test mechanism for durability estimation, the dynamic yield shear stress and the current density for the ER fluids of MC component are experimentally distilled as a function of electric field. In addition, the surface roughness of the employed electrode are evaluated as a function of the number of the electric-field cycles.

3차원 LDV를 이용한 실린더내 공기 유동특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Characteristics of In-Cylinder Air Flow with 3-D LDV Measurement)

  • In-cylinder flows in a motored 3.5L four-valve SI engine were investigated quantitatively using three-component LDV system, to determine how engine configuration affects the flow field. The purpose of this work was to develop quantitative methods which correlate in-cylinder flows to engine performance. For this study, two distinct intake/piston arrangements were used to examine the flow characteristics. Quantification of the flow field was done by calculating two major parameters which are believed to characterize adequately in-cylinder motion. These quantities were turbulent kinetic energy(TKE) and tumble ratio in each plane at each crank angle. The results showed that in-cylinder flow pattern is dominated by the intake effects and two counter rotating vortices, developed during the intake stroke, produced relatively low tumble ratio. Therefore, the applicability of these quantities should be carefully considered when evaluating characteristics resulting from the complex in-cylinder flow motions.

Along-wind simplified analysis of wind turbines through a coupled blade-tower model

  • A model is proposed to analyse the along-wind dynamic response of upwind turbines with horizontal axis under service wind conditions. The model takes into account the dynamic coupling effect between rotor blades and supporting tower. The wind speed field is decomposed into a mean component, accounting for the well-known wind shear effect, and a fluctuating component, treated through a spectral approach. Accordingly, the so-called rotationally sampled spectra are introduced for the blades to account for the effect of their rotating motion. Wind forces acting on the rotor blades are calculated according to the blade element momentum model. The tower shadow effect is also included in the present model. Two examples of a large and medium size wind turbines are modelled, and their dynamic response is analysed and compared with the results of a conventional static analysis.
