  • The physical, mechanical, water purification and temperature properties of fiber reinforced porous hwang-toh green roof concrete have been evaluated in this study. The effect of the depending on replacement ratio of blast furnace slag to cement was investigated such that the replacement ratio is varied to 0 % and 30 %. Also, the replacement ratios of hwang-toh were 0, 20 and 30 %. The polyvinyl alcohol fiber was used for the reinforcing fiber. A series of pH test, unit weight, void ratio, compressive strength, after purification and variation of temperature test have been performed to evaluate the performance, water purification effect and temperature properties of the fiber reinforced porous hwang-toh green roof concrete. The test results indicate that the physical and mechanical properties of fiber reinforced porous hwang-toh green roof concrete is affected by the replacement ratio of the blast furnace slag and hwang-toh contents. Results of purifying water showed that the water purification effect of porous hwang-toh green roof concrete is about 40 %. Also, the temperature properties test results indicate the green roof blocks using fiber reinforced porous hwang-toh green roof concrete have insulation and temperature reduction effect.

  • In this study, four reinforced concrete coupling beams were subjected to cyclic lateral loading test to evaluate the structural performance of coupling beam according to volume fraction of steel fiber. For this purpose, the volume fraction of steel fiber(0%, 1%, 2%) and transverse reinforcement spacing were determined as the main parameter. According to the test results, the maximum strength of D-40C-s100-0 was 1.15, 1.13, 1.05 times higher than D-40C-s300-0, D-40C-s300-1, D-40C-s300-2, respectively. The maximum strength of coupling beams with mitigated rebar details increases as the volume fraction of steel fiber increases. Although steel fiber 2% reinforced specimen(D-40C-s300-2) did not satisfy the amount of transverse reinforcement required for seismic design of coupling beam, the overall performance including to maximum strength, ductility and energy dissipation capacity was similar to the control specimen(D-40C-s100-0). As a result, the use of steel fiber with 2% reinforcement can partially replace the transverse reinforcement in diagonally reinforced concrete coupling beam.

  • In the present, the liquefaction potential of fiber-reinforced sandy soils was investigated through the energy-based approach by conducting a series of strain-controlled cyclic simple shear tests. In the tests, the effects of the fiber properties, such as the fiber content, fiber length, relative density and effective stress, and the test parameters on sandy soil improvement were investigated. The results indicated that the fiber inclusion yields to higher cumulative liquefaction energy values compared to the unreinforced (plain) ground by increasing the number of cycles and shear strength needed for the liquefaction of the soil. This result reveals that the fiber inclusion increases the resistance of the soil to liquefaction. However, the increase in the fiber content was determined to be more effective on the test results compared to the fiber length. Furthermore, the increase in the relative density of the soil increases the efficiency of the fibers on soil strengthening.

  • To improve the mechanical properties of glass-fiber-reinforced polypropylene (PP) composites through interfacial adhesion control between the PP matrix and glass fiber, the surface of the glass fiber was modified with PP-graft-maleic anhydride (MAPP). Surface modification of the glass fiber was carried out through the well-known hydrolysis-condensation reaction using 3-aminopropyltriethoxy silane, and then subsequently treated with MAPP to produce the desired MAPP-anchored glass fiber (MAPP-a-GF). The glass-fiber-reinforced PP composites were prepared by typical melt-mixing technique. The effect of chemical modification of the glass fiber surface on the mechanical properties of composites was investigated. The resulting mechanical and morphological properties showed improved interfacial adhesion between the MAPP-a-GF and PP matrix in the composites.

  • The contribution of steel fibers on the 28-day compressive strength of high-performance steel fiber reinforced concrete was investigated, is presented. An extensive experimentation was carried out over water-cementitious materials (w/cm) ratios ranging from 0.25 to 0.40, with silica fume-cementitious materials ratios from 0.05 to 0.15, and fiber volume fractions ($V_f$= 0.0, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5%) with the aspect ratios of 80 and 53. Based on the test results of 44 concrete mixes, mathematical model was developed using statistical methods to quantify the effect of fiber content on compressive strength of HPSFRC in terms of fiber reinforcing index. The expression, being developed with strength ratios and not with absolute values of strengths, is independent of specimen parameters and is applicable to wide range of w/cm ratios, and used in the mix design of steel fiber reinforced concrete. The estimated strengths are within ${\pm}3.2%$ of the actual values. The model was tested for the strength results of 14 mixes having fiber aspect ratio of 53. On examining the validity of the proposed model, there exists a good correlation between the predicted values and the experimental values of different researchers. Equation is also proposed for the size effect of the concrete specimens.

  • The aims of this study were to determine mechanical properties of steel-fiber reinforced concrete under splitting tensile, flexural and compressive loading, and thus to improve the possible applications of concrete. The major factors experimentally investigated in this study were the fiber content and the length and the diameter of fibers. The major results obtained are summarized as follows : 1.The strength, strain, elastic modulus and energy obsorption capability of steel-fiber reinforced concrete under splitting tensile loading were significantly improved by increasing the fiber content or the aspect ratio. 2.The flexural strength, central deflection, and flexural toughness of steel4iber reinforced beams were significantly improved by increasing the fiber content or the aspect ratio. And flexural behavior characteristic was good at the aspect ratio of about 60 to 75. 3.The strength, strain, and energy absorption capability in compression were increased with the increase of the fiber content. These effects were not so sensitive to the aspect ratio. The energy absorption capability was improved only slightly with the increase of the fiber length. 4.The elastic modulus, transverse strains, and poisson's ratios in compression were not influenced by the fiber content. 5.The steel-fibers were considered to be appropriated as the materials covering the weakness of concrete because the mechanical properties of concrete in tension and flexure were significantly improved by steel-fiber reinforcement.

  • This study was conducted by the slump test and the consistency test of the fiber mixed soil which is soil reinforced with fiber as a reinforced material to investigate and estimate the difficulty degree of work and the proper water content. So I would like to present the fundamental data that establishes the work standard of the fiber mixed soil. In conclusion, in this study the slump value of the fiber mixed soil increases over-all according to the increase of the water content although it has a little difference of the increase range and it is smaller than one of the soil. It is estimated that the aggregating and throwing work of the fiber mixed soil would be fine when it has the about 25 % water content and the wall and floor plastering work is the about 30 % ~ 35 % and the flowing and pouring work is the about 40 % water content as well as the mold compacting work is the about 20 %. There is no decreasing of the workability when the soil is reinforced by the fiber because the workability characteristics of the fiber mixed soil is similar to the one of the soil. Therefore, It is estimated that using the fiber as a reinforced material of soil would be appropriate for the construction.

  • Finite element analyses of structures made of the fiber reinforced composites require an adequate method to characterize the high anisotropic behavior induced by one or several layers of fiber cords with different spatial orientation embedded in a rubber matrix. This paper newly proposes a continuum based rebar element considering change of the orientation of the fiber during deformation of the composite. The mechanical behavior of the embedded fiber is modeled using two-node bar elements in order to consider the relative deformation and spatial orientation of the embedded fiber. For improvement of the analysis accuracy, the load-displacement curve of fiber is applied to the stiffness matrix of fiber. A finite element program is constructed based on the total Lagrangian formulation considering both geometric and material nonlinearity. Finite element analyses of the tensile test are carried out in order to evaluate the validity of the proposed method. Analysis results obtained with the proposed method provides realistic representation of the fiber reinforced rubber composite compared to results of other two models by the Halpin-Tsai equation and a rebar element in ABAQUS/Standard.
