In this paper, waveguide analysis was interpreted as an optical waveguide using the feedback perturbation method simple and easy to apply compared to the analysis method, while the other almost identical to the numerical calculation method. In addition, efficient coupling with an optical transmission line of optical fiber and the waveguide form the thin film of different functional elements is required in order to achieve the full optical communication system. However, problems arise, such as the light field (field) and the decrease of the access efficiency due to inconsistency in the distribution characteristics of the connection surface by the difference in size of the cross section thereof when connecting the optical fiber and the waveguide directly to the combination of a thin film. Therefore propose a new type of connector structure to increase the efficiency of the connection when connecting the optical fiber waveguide and the thin film was analyzed by applying a coupled mode theory, the binding efficiency of the modified contactor. And by diffusing Ti on the $LiNbO_3$ substrate and a wide range of applications in the manufacture of integrated optical material made of a current low-loss Ti: $LiNbO_3$ optical waveguide and making the Y-branch waveguide, and the properties were confirmed.

The rotor blade is an important component of a tidal stream turbine and is affected by a large thrust force and load due to the high density of seawater. Therefore, the performance must be secured through the geometrical and structural design of the blade and the blade structural safety to which the composite material is applied. In this study, a 1 MW class large turbine blade was designed using the blade element momentum (BEM) theory. GFRP is a fiber-reinforced plastic used for turbine blade materials. A sandwich structure was applied with CFRP to lay-up the blade cross-section. In addition, to evaluate structural safety according to flow variations, static load analysis within the linear elasticity range was performed using the fluid-structure interactive (FSI) method. Structural safety was evaluated by analyzing tip deflection, strain, and failure index of the blade due to bending moment. As a result, Model-B was able to reduce blade tip deflection and weight. In addition, safety could be secured by indicating that the failure index, inverse reserve factor (IRF), was 1 or less in all load ranges excluding 3.0*Vr of Model-A. In the future, structural safety will be evaluated by applying various failure theories and redesigning the laminated pattern as well as the change of blade material.
This study was carried out to investigate a radial distribution of moisture contents (MCs) within a log cross section (LC) during oven-drying of 3 mm-thick circumferential slices cut from several domestic softwoods LCs.For Korean red pine, drying rate of sapwood slices during oven-drying represented much higher values than that of heartwood slices, and so sapwood with higher green MC early reached below fiber saturation point (FSP) rather than heartwood did. However, this distribution of moistures did not last for long duration. For Japanese larch, green MC of sapwood was approximately three times higher than that of heartwood. This similar distribution in MC was lasted until about 20% average MC. The MC was around uniform throughout the sapwood of Ginkgo when green and during oven-drying, although it was somewhat fluctuated. For Japanese cedar, the heartwood with so low moistures around FSP would begin to shrink from the beginning stage of drying, but the sapwood above hygroscopic MC prevents the heartwood from shrinking, and consequently, the heartwood or the transition wood goes into tension stress. The results for Japanese cypress showed that the green MCs of the sapwoods were much lower than those for heartwoods, and then this trend was continued until about 20% in average MC. For Chinese thuja, the green MCs of sapwoods were about 2 times as high as those of heartwood, but this along the radial gradient in MC rapidly became gentle during oven-drying.
According to the recent civil engineering construction work site which is a complex process, development of multi-functional geotextiles is required. In this study, the characteristics of five different modified cross-section fiber yarns for the selection of wicking yarns were analyzed and yarns that can achieve target properties were selected. Experimental prototype geotextiles suitable for horizontal wicking drain property and reinforcement was developed and its tensile strength, 2% secant modulus, vertical water permeability, AOS, friction characteristics by the direct shear method, and vertical/horizontal wicking test were analyzed. These tests are conducted to verify the performance of the geotextiles with horizontal wick drain property, separation and reinforcement developed in this study. As a results of the indoor soil box test, it was confirmed that the geotextiles using the wicking yarn sufficiently exhibited the function of discharging excess pore water in the horizontal direction.
There are many kinds of elements and processes for the development of high quality bedding products like fiber, high-temperature heat treatment, dyeing process, tenter drying with softening agent and multiple final finishing. Especially we examined the mechanical characteristic properties of fabrics according to different yarn types. The critical physical properties of the yarn consisting the pile knitted fabrics were obtained for the development of the hi-grade bedding items. The material property and the exhaustion behaviour of the developed pile knitted fabrics composing of different yarns were measured and observed. The physical properties of the developed fabric were evaluated through the material property analysis of the yarn, the physical nature of the pile knitted fabrics and the data of the exhaustion performance; tensile strength, tensile elongation, tearing strength, cross section of yarn types, dyeing properties etc. And then high-class of bedding items were knitted using the double raschel machine to make the pile knitted fabrics.

At the ratio [$H_2O$]/[TEOS]=1.7, the silica sol was synthesized by partial hydrolysis in the presence of acid catalyst. After stabilizing the silica sol by trimethylsilylation, the molecular weight and viscosity of the sol obtained at various reaction times were examined to determine a best spinnability of the sol. Gel fibers were prepared from the sol solution after removing solvent in the solution, and the gel fibers were heated at $1,000^{\circ}C$. The prepared silica fibers were in the shape of circular cross-section and their tensile strength and $SiO_2$ purity were $83{\pm}20kg/mm^2$ and about 99.997%, respectively.

Fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) structural shapes are readily available in civil engineering applications. Among many manufacturing techniques used for FRP structural shapes, pultrusion process is one of the most widely used techniques in civil engineering applications. Pultrusion is a manufacturing process for producing continuous lengths of reinforced polymeric plastic structural shapes with constant cross-section. Pultruded composites are attractive for structural applications because of their continuous mass production with excellent mechanical properties. This paper presents the results of investigations pertaining to the bolted connection with two bolts for the pultruded FRP (PFRP) structural members. PFRP bolted connection tests were conducted with end distance to bolt diameter ratio ($e_1/d_b$) and two types of bolt pattern such as horizontal (Pattern A) and vertical arrangement (Pattern B). As a result, it is found that the $e_1/d_b$ is recommended as the ratio of 4. In addition, it is also found that the bearing strengths at failure of the Pattern A and Pattern B have a similar value.

When a tunnel is excavated below groundwater table, the groundwater flow occurs towards the tunnel resulting in the seepage pressure. In this paper, the effect of groundwater flows on the behavior of shotcrete lining installed between ground-liner interfaces was studied considering permeability ratio between the ground and the shotcrete into account. Three-dimensional coupled finite element analysis was performed for this assessment. Seepage forces will seriously affect the shotcrete behavior since arching phenomena do not occur in seepage forces. A parametric study was conducted on the various tunnelling situations including interfacial properties between ground and shotcrete lining, the shape of tunnel cross-section and the thickness of liner, etc. Moreover, the convergence-confinement method (CCM) of a NATM tunnel considering seepage forces was proposed. The result showed that the more water tight is the shotcrete, the smaller is the convergence and the larger is the internal pressure. Therefore, the watertight fiber-reinforced shotcrete is found to be even more advantageous when used in under water tunnel.
The effects of plaster on the behavior of single-story single-bay masonry-infilled steel frames under in-plane base accelerations have been experimentally investigated by a shake-table. Tested structures were made in a 1/3 scale, with realistic material properties and construction methods. Steel frames with high and low flexural rigidity of beams and columns were considered. Each type of frame was tested with three variants of masonry: (i) non-plastered masonry; (ii) masonry infill with conventional plaster on both sides; and (iii) masonry infill with a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) net reinforced plaster on both sides. Masonry bricks were made of lightweight cellular concrete. Each frame was firstly successively exposed to horizontal base accelerations of an artificial accelerogram, and afterwards, to horizontal base accelerations of a real earthquake. Characteristic displacements, strains and cracks in the masonry were established for each applied excitation. It has been concluded that plaster strengthens the infill and prevents damages in it, which results in more favorable behavior and increased bearing capacity of plastered masonry-infilled frames compared to non-plastered masonry-infilled frames. The load-bearing contribution of the adopted PVC net in the plaster was not noticeable for the tested specimens, probably due to relative small cross section area of fibers in the net. Behavior of masonry-infilled steel frames significantly depends on frame stiffness. Strong frames have smaller displacements than weak frames, which reduces deformations and damages of an infill.
The aim of this study was to analyze the effects on growth and muscle development during the growing period of the sex-linked dwarf gene in the background of a Taiwan Country chicken strain, L2, selected for egg production. Eight crossbred males, heterozygous for the DW*DW mutation, were each backcrossed to six females of the L2 strain to produce two genotypes of BC females, either normal (DW*N+/-) or dwarf (DW*DW/-). The experiment included 251 normal and 207 dwarf pullets. The effect of the dwarf gene on body weight and shank length was highly significant from 2 weeks of age. The reduction of body weight by the dwarf gene reached 34.8% and 37.4% as compared to normal sibs at 16 and 20 weeks of age, respectively. Parameters of the growth curve were estimated: the age at inflection (TI) was higher in normal pullets (66.9 days) than in dwarf pullets (61.2 days). A significant effect of the dwarf gene on single muscle fiber cross-section area was found from 12 weeks of age onwards, whereas the dwarf gene had no effect on the total number of muscle fibers. Comparing the effect of the dwarf gene on shank length at different ages revealed an earlier effect on skeleton growth, observed from 2 weeks of age, than on muscle development, which was affected from 8 to 12 weeks of age.
