  • Recently, methods that usea carbon-based filler, a conductive nanomaterial, have been investigated to develop composite fillers containing dielectric materials. In this study, we added geometric changes to a carbon fiber, a typical carbon-based filler material, by differentiating the orientation angle and the number of plies of the fiber. We also studied the electrical and electromagnetic shield characteristics. Based on the orientation angle of $0^{\circ}$, the orientation angle of the carbon fiber was changed between 0, 15, 30, 45, and $90^{\circ}$, and 2, 4, and 6 plies were stacked for each orientation angle. The maximum effect was found when the orientation angle was $90^{\circ}$, which was perpendicular to the electromagnetic wave flow, as compared to $0^{\circ}$, in which case the electrical resistance was small. Therefore, it is verified that the orientation angle has more of an effect on the electromagnetic interference shield performance than the number of plies.

  • A numerical study is conducted on the optical fiber coating flow in a primary coating nozzle consisting of three major parts: a resin chamber, a contraction and a coating die of small diameter. The flow is driven by the optical fiber penetrating the center of the nozzle at a high speed. The axisymmetric two-dimensional flow and heat transfer induced by viscous heating are examined based on the laminar flow assumption. Numerical experiments are performed with varying the convergent angle of nozzle contraction and the optical fiber drawing speed. The numerical results show that for high drawing speed greater than 30 m/s, there is a transition in the essential flow features depending on the convergent angle. For a large convergent angle greater than $30^{\circ}$, unfavorable multicellular flow structures are monitored, which could be associated with wall boundary-layer separation. In the regime of small convergent angle, as the angle increases, the highest resin temperature at the exit of die and the coating thickness decrease but the sensitivity of coating thickness on drawing speed and the maximum shear strain of resin on the optical fiber increase. The effects of the convergent angle are discussed in view of compromise searching for an appropriate angle for high-speed optical fiber coating.

  • The drilling experiment of carbon fiber epoxy composite material with WC-drill has been done under the various cutting conditions in order to minimize the problems occurred in the material while being drilled. It has been confirmed by a frequency analysis of the cutting force signals that the variation of cutting force resulted from the periodic variation of the angle between the ortating drill and the stacking angle of the carbon fiber. By the drilling experiment with several drills having different point angles, the drilling char- acteristics, which show the relations between the change in the point angle and cutting force or external surface condition, were analyzed.

  • A new fiber orientation sensor has been developed and tested on an actual paper machine to demonstrate its capability to function as a real-time monitoring system. First, we demonstrate the ability of the sensor system to detect the change in the fiber orientation angle while the sensor head, and not the paper, was intentionally rotated from $-90^{\circ}\;to\;+70^{\circ}$ with respect to the paper-traveling direction. Next, we demonstrate that this system can successfully detect the change in the magnitude and angle of fiber orientation in running paper when the direction of material flow on the wire was changed on the paper machine. The angle and magnitude of fiber orientation were independently confirmed by SST and MOA measurements. Furthermore, we found that the system was capable of measuring the basis weight and the moisture content of running paper while detecting the angle and magnitude of fiber orientation.

  • In this paper, we controlled the edge angle of fiber by using $CO_2$ laser. In order to control the angle, tilting angle of fiber on stage and the number of scan repetition are adjusted, and laser power is fixed at 30 W in the experiment. In the polishing result, the edge angle of fiber can be changed from $4^{\circ}$ to $8^{\circ}$, as changing the tilting angle and the number of scan repetition. This $CO_2$ laser polishing can fabricate ball lenses with various curvatures and a sharp probe as well as the edge angled fiber.

  • In order to examine the accuracy of the intensity method, the fiber orientation-angle distribution of fiber-reinforced polymeric composites is measured using image processing. The fiber orientation function is calculated from the fiber orientation measured by the soft X-ray photograph. Theoretical and experimental results of fiber orientation function are compared for the composites with different fiber contents and fiber orientations. The intensity method is used for the experimental investigation and the measured fiber orientation function is compared to the calculated one. The relations between the measured and the simulated fiber orientation functions $J{\small{M}}$ and $J{\small{S}}$ respectively are identified. For the fiber length of 1.000mm and 2.000mm, it shows that $J{\small{M}}=0.83J{\small{M}}$. However. in general. the value of $J{\small{M}}$ decreases as the fiber length increases. For GFRP composites the relations between $J{\small{M}}$ and theoretical value J show that $J{\small{M}}$=0.73J for short fiber and $J{\small{M}}$=0.81J for long fiber.

  • The model using homogenization technique based on energy concept for the prediction of the failure criterion of staple fiber mixed soil was developed to increase the practice and the application of staple fiber as a reinforcement for improving soft ground. Parameters of the model are aspect ratio and volumetric content of fiber, cohesion and internal friction angle of soil, adhesion intercept and interface friction angle of soil and fiber. It is considered that the model developed in this study is applicable to the soil composed of clay, silt and sand mixed by thread types of fiber such as steel bar, steel fiber, natural fiber etc.

  • The main object of this study was evaluated by the delamination damage for fiber stacking angle. Therefore, this work need to compare the shape of delamination for a different fiber stacking angie. So this study uses a method of fatigue test which was created [0]$_2$,[+45]$_2$[90]$_2$. The extension of the delamination zone formed between aluminium alloy and glass fiber-adhesive layer were measured by an ultrasonic C-scan image. As a result, the shapes of delamination zone don't depend upon the crack propagation. We could know that the delamination zone grew interaction between stress flow of fiber layer and crack driving force. Hence, the existing study were applied to the stress transfer, fiber bridging effect, delaminantion growth rate should need to the develop useful factor because of change of fiber stacking angle.

  • In this study basic equations of fiber orientations is cimpared with experimental results. It is found that fiber orientations of short fiber reinforced polymeric composite under compression molding are governed by slope of flow speed in x-y direction. Fiber orientation angle of mold is also found to increase with closure speed and the compression ratio. At the middle of the mold, the slope of flow speed is larger in x-direction than in y-direction. At the wall of the mold, the shope of flow speed in y-direction occurs due to the effect of friction, hence affects the fiber orientation. The effect of partial flow, which incurs y-direction orientation causes to increase the fiber orientation angle at the fore part of the flow.
