The growth characteristics of bainite at early stage in the fast quenched spheroidal graphite cast irons containing 0.06%Mn and 0.45%Mn during austempering process, was investigated with optical and scanning electron microscope. The following results regarding the effects of Mn and isothermal heat treatment on the morphological variation of bainitic ferrite were obtained. The morphology of bainite varies from acicular below 350$^{\circ}C$ to feather shape above 350$^{\circ}C$. The period of isothermal treatment also affects the shape of bainite at the fixed temperature. At 350$^{\circ}C$, bainite is bamboo leaf-like up to 200 secs of isothermal holding time and with further increasing time up to 300 secs, changes to a mixed structure consisting of both feather and bamboo leaf and, finally becomes all feather shape at 900 secs. The morphology of bainitic ferrite formed at early stage of 300$^{\circ}C$ isothermal treatment is similar to that of bainitic ferrite formed at 250$^{\circ}C$ or 350$^{\circ}C$ with unbranched, linear ferrite. However, bainitic ferrite divides into branches with increasing isothermal treatment, which occurs more fast at 400$^{\circ}C$ than at 350$^{\circ}C$. The difference in adding amount of Mn influences the morphology of bainitic ferrite in upper bainite. The bainitic ferrite with 0.45%Mn is observed to be more stable than that with 0.06%Mn, remaining unbranched for a longer period at the same temperature.
As an alternative promising way of producing high coercivity Sr-ferrite for a permanent magnet application, intensive mechanical milling process was applied to the raw materials of the Sr-ferrite with different composition. Synthesising reactivity for the Sr-ferrite of the mechanically milled raw material containing $SrCO_3$, $La_2O_3$, $Fe_2O_3$, $Co_3O_4$, and $SiO_2$ was inferior to that of the raw material containing $SrCO_3$ and $Fe_2O_3$, The Sr-ferrite prepared from mechanically milled raw materials had profoundly improved magnetic properties compared to the Sr-ferrite prepared by conventional method. Beneficial effect of the substituting ($La_2O_3$, $Co_3O_4$) and additive ($SiO_2$) oxides for improving the magnetic properties was not exploited in the Sr-ferrite prepared from the mechanically milled raw material. The Sr-ferrite powder prepared from the mechanically milled raw materials was magnetically isotropic in nature.

A number of process problems should be solved in the multi-layered ceramic devices such as EMI filter. In particular, it is essential to control the sintering shrinkage in co-firing of different materials for obtaining defect-free samples such as crack, camber, and delamination which usually occur near the surface and interface. We studied the effect of the powder properties of ferrite on the co-firing behavior of green ceramic layers composed of ferrite and varistor. Three kind of ferrite powder samples as a function of milling time (24, 48, and 72 hr) were prepared. Varistor and ferrite ceramic green sheet were made by means of doctor blade process using slurry (ceramic powder and binder solution). Here, slurry was prepared by mixing 55 wt% powder with 45wt% binder solution. Varistor and ferrite green sheets were laminated at $80 kg/cm^2$, and co-fired at $900^{\circ}C$ and $1000^{\circ}C$ for 3 hr. We obtained the camber-free and co-fired ferrite/varistor layer structure by controlling the milling time and sintering temperature.
Using various thermo-mechanical schedules characterized by varying reheating temperature, deformation temperature and strain, the austenite recrystallization and ferrite refinement of a Nb bearing low carbon steel(0.15C-0.25Si-1.11Mn-0.04Nb) were investigated. For single pass heavy deformations at $800^{\circ}C$, the 40% deformed austenite was not recrystallized while the 80% deformed one was fully recrystallized. Ferrite grains formed in the 80% deformed specimen was not very small compared with those in the 40% deformed specimen, which implied the recrystallized austenite was not more beneficial to ferrite refinement than the non-recrystallized one. In case of deformation in low temperature austenite region, a multi-pass deformation made finer ferrites than a single-pass deformation, as the total reduction was the same, due to more ferrite nucleation sites in the non-recrystallization of austenite for multi-pass deformation. When specimen was deformed at $775^{\circ}C$ that was $10^{\circ}C$ higher than $Ar_3$, the ferrite of about $1{\mu}m$ was formed through deformation induced ferrite transformation(DIFT), and the amount of ferrite was increased with increasing reduction. Dislocation density was very high and no carbides were observed in DIFT ferrites, presumably due to supersaturated carbon solution. By deformation in two phase(50% austenite+50% ferrite) region the very refined ferrite grains of less than $1{\mu}m$ were formed certainly by recovery and recrystallization of deformed ferrites and, a large portion of ferrites were divided by subgrain boundaries with misorientation angles smaller than 10 degrees.
Ba-Ferrite thin films were prepared on $A1_2O_3$ substrate by a pulsed laser deposition system and characterized by SEM, $M\ddot{o}$ssbauer spectroscopy and VSM. The appropriate conditions of pulsation in Ba-ferrite was the oxygen pressure of 0.1 Torr at a substrate temperature of $400^{\circ}C$ and the thickness was variable with the deposition time. Ba-ferrite crystals had the forms of hexagonal plate in the 5 minute deposited film and the needle grains coexisted with the increasing film thickness. $M\ddot{o}ssbauer$ spectroscopy assured that the direction of atomic spin in Fe ion tends to normal to the substrate in the hexagonal plate. The VSM curves have the two types hysteresis of hexagonal and needle phase.
Effects of ZnO, PbO and SiO2 on the grain growth and magnetic properties of Sr-ferrite were investigated. (1) Addition of ZnO to Sr-ferrite increased remanence, but decreased coercivity and maximum energy product. (2) Addition of PbO up to 0.5 wt% increased (B$.$H)max of Sr-ferrite, but addition more than 0.5 wt% decreased (B$.$H)mzx (3) SiO2 addition to the 0.5 wt% PbO doped Sr-ferrite decreased remanence and increased coercivity. The coercivity increase in due to the grain refinement effect of SiO2. But addition of SiO2 more than 0.5 wt% invoked a decrease of coercivity and (B$.$H)max of Sr-ferrite due to abnormal grain growth. Sr-ferrite magnet having maximum energy product of 3.7MGOe was fabricated by using the roasting product of Pyrrhotite.
Effects of manganese and carbon on the HAZ microstructural evolution in 500㎫ grade titanium oxide steels were investigated. Microstructural evolution primarily depends on supercooling. When cooled at 3$^{\circ}C$/s in 0.15%C-1.5%Mn steel, grain boundary and Widmanst tten ferrite formed at 640 and 62$0^{\circ}C$, respectively, followed by competitive formation of acicular ferrite and upper bainite inside of grain at 58$0^{\circ}C$. With an increase of manganese, degree of supercooling increased while critical cooling rate for the formation of gain boundary ferrite decreased. Consequently, the amount of acicular ferrite in HAZ was decreased in 2.0%Mn after initial increase in 1.0 and 1.5%Mn. Therefore, optimum supercooling should be maintained to accelerate acicular ferrite formation in titanium oxide steels. Low carbon steel, 0.11%C-1.5%Mn, showed larger amount of acicular ferrite than higher carbon steel because of effectiveness of diffusionless transformation in low carbon steel.
There is a growing demend for absorptive electromagentic shielding materials for wide band frequency application. In this study, the absorber which consists of a rubber plus Ni-Zn ferrite which have been prepared by direct-wet method. A rubber ferrite composite for electromagnetic shielding, it is most importan facter the homogeneous ultra fine size and high dispersitive ferrite powder. Direct-wet method and solid-solid reaction method for preparing of ultra fine ferrite powder was used. It has been experimentally verified that the powder which prepared by direct-wet method was very fine and almost same size spherical powder, the composite ferrite have excellent electromagnetic wave absorption in X-band.

Barium ferrite particles were synthesized from Ba(NO$_3$)$_2$, Fe(NO$_3$)$_3$ and KOH mixed solutions using hydrothermal crystallization in supercritical water. The experimental apparatus for production of barium ferrite is a flow-type apparatus. Fine barium ferrite particles were produced because supercritical water causes the metal hydroxides to be rapidly dehydrated before significant growth takes place. The effects of Fe/Ba ratio and reaction time on the formation, particle size, and magnetic properties of barium ferrite were studied. When Fe/Ba ratio were varied from 0.5 to 12, single-phase barium ferrite powder was only produced in the range of 0.5〈Fe/Ba〈2. Also, with elevating reaction time, the BaO.6Fe$_2$O$_3$ particle size grew smaller. Especially, uniform barium hexaferrite particles of size 100-200nm were obtained at 80sec. In this study, therefore, single-phase barium ferrite particles are highly stable and can be produced continuously in a reaction time of less then 2min.
