Recycling of Fermented Sawdust-based Oyster Mushroom Spent Substrate as a Feed Supplement for Postweaning Calves

  • The objective of this study was to find the way to prolong the storage time of sawdust-based oyster mushroom (Pleurotus osteratus) spent substrate (OMSS) by fermenting with potential probiotic microorganisms to recycle the otherwise waste of mushroom farms. To this purpose, lactic acid bacteria (LAB) were screened to select the best lactic acid-producing strains. Three strains of LAB (Lactobacillus plantarum Lp1', Pediococcus acidilacticii Pa193, L. plantarum Lp2M) were selected and in mixture they lowered the pH of the fermented OMSS to 3.81. fOMSS (fermented sawdust-based oyster mushroom spent substrate) could be stored at room temperature for at least 17 days without any deterioration of feed quality based on the pH, smell, and color. In dry matter disappearance rate in situ, commercial TMR (total mixed ration), OMSS and OMMM (oyster mushroom mycelium mass) showed no significant differences between the samples after 6, 12 and 24 h incubation except for 48 h. Two separate field studies were performed to test the effects of fOMSS supplement on the growth performance of postweaning Holstein calves. Field trials included groups of animals feeding calf starter supplemented with: Control (no supplement), AB (colistin 0.08% and oxyneo 110/110 0.1%), fOMSS (10% fOMSS) and fConc (10% fermented concentrate) and DFM (direct-fed microbials, average $10^9$ cfu for each of three LAB/d/head). Growth performance (average daily gain and feed efficiency) of the fOMSS supplement group was higher than that of AB followed by fConc and DFM even though there was no statistically significant difference. The Control group was lower than any other group. Various hematological values including IgG, IgA, RBC (red blood cell), hemoglobin, and hematocrit were measured every 10 days to check any unusual abnormality for all groups in trial I and II, and they were within a normal and safe range. Our results suggest that sawdust-based OMSS could be recycled after fermentation with three probiotic LAB strains as a feed supplement for post-weaning calves, and fOMSS has the beneficial effects of an alternative to antibiotics for a growth enhancer in dairy calves.

새송이버섯 수확후배지의 사료적 가치 (Feeding Value of Spent Mushroom (Pleurotus eryngii) Substrate)

  • 버섯수확후배지는 버섯을 수확한 후 남겨진 배지를 말하며 버섯배지의 주원료는 가축 사료원료인 콘코브, 미강, 밀기울, 면실피, 비트펄프 등이고 버섯재배과정에서 배지영양원의 약 15-25% 정도만 버섯에 의해 이용되고 나머지 75-85% 정도는 버섯수확후배지에 남아있기 때문에 버섯수확후 배지는 사료자원으로써 활용가치가 매우 높은 농산부산물이다. 버섯수확후배지 중 사료자원으로 이용할 수 있는 것은 새송이, 팽이, 느타리버섯 수확후배지이며 새송이버섯 수확후배지는 난분해성 물질인 톱밥이 함유되어 있기 때문에 섬유소 함량은 높고 가소화양분 함량은 낮다는 단점이 있지만 cellulase와 xylanase 활성이 높은 미생물을 가축사료 첨가용 생균제로 이용하여 버섯수확후배지 발효사료를 제조하면 버섯수확후배지의 섬유소 함량은 낮아질 수 있다. 그러나 새송이버섯 수확후배지는 가소화양분 함량이 낮기 때문에 새송이버섯 수확후배지 발효사료를 단독으로 급여하기보다는 버섯수확후배지 발효사료를 일정량 첨가한 배합사료를 제조하여 급여하는 것이 영양학적인 측면에서 바람직하며 발효과정에 의해 기호성과 저장성이 개선된 새송이버섯 수확후배지 발효사료의 급여는 축우의 사료비 절감과 고급육 생산 효과를 기대할 수 있다.

Effects of rice straw fermented with spent Pleurotus sajor-caju mushroom substrates on milking performance in Alpine dairy goats

  • Objective: To improve the feeding value of rice straw (RS), this study evaluated the potential of rice straw fermented with Pleurotus sajor-caju (FRS) as dairy goat feed. Methods: Spent Pleurotus sajor-caju mushroom substrate was used as fungi inoculum to break the lignocellulose linkage of rice straw, which was solid-fermented at 25℃ to 30℃ for 8 weeks. The ruminal degradation of pangolagrass hay (PG), FRS, and RS were measured in situ for 96 hours in three dry Holstein cows, respectively. Effect of fungi fermented RS on milking performance was studied in feeding trials. A total of 21 Alpine goats a trial were divided into 3 groups: a control group in which PG accounted for 15% of the diet dry matter, and FRS or RS was used to replace the PG in the control group. Goats were fed twice a day under two 28-day trial in individual pens. Meanwhile, a 3×3 Latin square trial (14 days/period) was conducted to study the rumen digestion of three diets by using three fistulated dry goats. Rumen contents were collected for metabolite analyses every one to three hours on the last two days. Results: In situ study showed that fermentation could elevate the rumen degradable fraction and effective degradability of RS (p<0.05). Effective degradability of FRS dry matter was significantly increased from 29.5% of RS to 41.7%. Lactating trial results showed that dry matter intake and milk yield in the PG group and FRS group were similar and higher than those in RS group (p<0.05). The concentration of propionic acid and total volatile fatty acid in the RS group tended to be lower than those in PG group (p<0.10). There were no differences in rumen pH value and ammonia nitrogen level among the groups tested. Conclusion: Fermentation of rice straw by spent Pleurotus sajor-caju mushroom substrate could substantially enhance its feeding value to be equivalent to PG as an effective fiber source for dairy goat. The fermented rice straw is recommended to account for 15% in diet dry matter.

버섯폐배지 발효사료 급여가 육계의 생산성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of feeding fermentation of spent mushroom substrate (FSMS) on growth performance in broiler chicks)

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of fermented spent mushroom substrate (FSMS) on growth performance, blood profile, intestinal microflora and ammonia gas production of feces in broiler chickens. A total of three hundred sixty, 1-day-old male broiler chicks (Ross) were randomly divided into 3 groups with 6 replicates of 20 birds each. The treatments were control (free FSMS), 15% FSMS (basal diet with 15% FSMS) and 30% FSMS (basal diet with 30% FSMS). The final body weight and body weight gains were slightly improved in 30% FSMS than control (P<0.05). Feed intake and feed conversion were significantly improved as compared to those of the control groups. The Leukocytes of blood serum in FSMS groups were significantly decreased as compared to those of control groups. There are no significant differences among the groups in the contents of albumin (ALB), total cholesterol (TCHO), glucose (GLU), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) in blood serum. The content of total glucose (TG) in 30% FSMS containing dietary groups was significantly decreased as compared to that of the control groups. The content of HDLC in 30% FSMS containing dietary groups was significantly increased as compared to that of the control group. The number of lactobacillus in the intestinal microflora were significantly increased in chicks fed FSMS groups. The ammonia gas production in FSMS groups was siginificantly decreased as compard to that the control groups. These results indicated that dietary FSMS exerted growth performance for feeding broiler.

새송이버섯 수확 후 배지 발효산물 첨가급여가 한우 거세우의 성장과 도체등급에 미치는 영향 (Effect of the Dietary Supplementation of Fermented Spent Mushroom (Pleurotus eryngii) Substrates on the Growth Performance and Carcass Characteristics in Hanwoo Steers)

  • 본 실험에서는 새송이버섯 수확 후 배지 발효산물 첨가급여가 한우 거세우의 성장과 도체성적에 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위하여 비육기(17-24개월령) 한우 거세우 32두를 공시하여 30개월령까지 사양시험을 수행하였다. 공시동물은 30%의 새송이버섯 수확 후 배지 발효산물(F-SMS)이 첨가된 TMR 사료를 급여한 처리구와 시판 배합사료와 볏짚을 분리 급여한 대조구로 나누어 처리구별로 각각 16두씩 배치하였으며 한 우리($5{\times}6m$)당 4두씩 수용하였다. 30%의 F-SMS가 첨가된 TMR 사료의 영양 가치를 분석한 결과, 30%의 F-SMS가 첨가된 TMR 사료는 볏짚보다는 조단백질(11.67%)과 TDN(72.11%) 함량이 높게 나타났으나 시판배합사료와는 큰 차이가 없었다(p<0.05). 시험기간 동안 사료섭취량은 30%의 F-SMS가 첨가된 TMR 사료 급여구가 대조구보다 유의적으로 많았으나(p<0.05) 공시동물의 증체량에서는 처리구간에 큰 차이가 없었다. 육질등급에서는 30%의 F-SMS가 첨가된 TMR 사료 처리구(100%)의 1등급 이상 출현율이 대조구(87.5%)보다는 높게 나타났으나 육량등급에 있어서는 처리구별로 큰 차이가 없었다(p<0.05). 이상의 결과로 볼 때, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens CS47와 Saccharomyces cerevisiae로 발효시켜 기호성과 저장성이 개선된 새송이버섯 수확 후 배지는 한우 거세우의 원료사료로 사용 가능한 것으로 사료된다.

Ensiling Characteristics and the In situ Nutrient Degradability of a By-product Feed-based Silage

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the ensiling characteristics and the in situ degradability of a by-product feed (BF)-based silage. Before ensilation, the BF-based mixture was composed of 50% spent mushroom substrate, 21% recycled poultry bedding, 15% ryegrass straw, 10.8% rice bran, 2% molasses, 0.6% bentonite, and 0.6% microbial inoculant on a wet basis and ensiled for up to 4 weeks. The BF-based silage contained on average 39.3% moisture, 13.4% crude protein (CP), and 52.2% neutral detergent fiber (NDF), 49% total digestible nutrient, and 37.8% physically effective $NDF_{1.18}$ on a dry matter (DM) basis. Ensiling the BF-based silage for up to 4 weeks affected (p<0.01) the chemical composition to a small extent, increased (p<0.05) the lactic acid and $NH_3$-N content, and decreased (p<0.05) both the total bacterial and lactic acid bacterial counts from $10^9$ to $10^8$ cfu/g when compared to that before ensiling. These parameters indicated that the silage was fermented and stored well during the 4-week ensiling period. Compared with rice or ryegrass straws, the BF-based silage had a higher (p<0.05) water-soluble and filterable fraction, a lower insoluble degradable DM and CP fraction (p<0.05), a lower digestible NDF (p<0.05) fraction, a higher (p<0.05) DM and CP disappearance and degradability rate, and a lower (p<0.05) NDF disappearance and degradability rate. These results indicated that cheap, good-quality BF-based roughage could be produced by ensiling SMS, RPB, rice bran, and a minimal amount of straw.

발효 팽이버섯 수확후배지의 급여 수준이 한우 거세우의 비육과 도체성적 및 경제성 분석에 미치는 영향 (Effects of dietary supplementation with fermented spent mushroom substrates of the winter mushroom (Flammulina velutipes) on growth performance, carcass traits, and economic characteristics of Hanwoo steers)

  • 본 연구는 팽이버섯 수확후배지를 이용한 발효 TMR 급여가 한우 거세우의 사양성적과 도체특성 및 경제성 분석에 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위해 수행되었다. 팽이버섯 수확후배지 발효사료(F-SMS) 제조를 위하여 자체 개발된 혼합배양액(Bacillus sp. UJ03+Saccharomyces sp. UJ14)을 사용하였다. 한우 거세우 14개월령 24두를 공시하여 성장단계(비육전기, 비육후기, 비육마무리기)에 따라 배합비를 조절하면서 사육한 후, 30개월령에 도축하였다. 처리구는 자체 TMR을 급여한 대조구(Control), F-SMS 10% 첨가구(T1) 및 30% 첨가구(T2)로 나누어 난괴법으로 배치하였다. 증체량은 처리구간에 유의적인 차이가 없었으나. 건물과 TDN 섭취량은 비육 마무리기에 T1구에서 다른 처리구보다 높았고, 조단백질 섭취량은 전 시험 기간 동안 T2구가 다른 처리구에 비해 많았다(p<0.05). 배 최장근 단면적과 등지방두께는 팽이버섯 수확후배지 발효 사료 급여 시 증가되는 경향이었으며, T1구에서 육량 A등급 출현율이 가장 높았다. 순수익은 대조구에 비해 T1과 T2구가 각각 1.2% 및 13.3%가 증가한 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 결과들을 종합해 볼 때, 팽이버섯 수확후배지의 원료비와 발효사료 제조비용의 변동이 없고, 사료로서 안전성이 확보된다면, 팽이버섯 수확후배지는 한우 비육에 있어서 우수한 대체사료자원으로서 농가소득에 크게 기여할 것으로 판단된다.
