The low-power, low-cost femtocell network has been proposed not only to alleviate traffic load to the macro base station (eNB) but also to cover the indoor coverage hole problem. However, in the dense femtocell environment where many femtocells are deployed to cover the whole large office building, performance of such femtocell environment can be deteriorated due to severe co-channel interference problem between the eNB and femtocells and among neighboring femtocells. In particular, a macro UE(mUE) located within femtocell coverage may experience severe co-channel interference from surrounding femtocells. Therefore, In this paper, we propose a novel power control schemes to mitigate interference to a mUE under such dense LTE femtocell environment. With proposed femtocell power control schemes, performance of the mUE can be greatly improved in terms of the outage probability and the SINR while maintaining satisfying femtocell performance. Simulation based performance study shows that the proposed power control scheme is able to enhance mUE performance more than 30% than the conventional dense femtocell in terms of the two performance metrics.

Femtocells are viewed as a promising option for mobile operators to improve coverage and provide high-data-rate services in a cost-effective manner Femtocells can be used to serve indoor users, resulting in a powerful solution for ubiquitous indoor and outdoor coverage. TThe frequency accuracy and phase alignment is necessary for ensuring the quality of service (QoS) forapplications such as voice, real-time video, wireless hand-off, and data over a converged access medium at the femtocell. But, the GPS has some problem to be used at the femtocell, because it is difficult to set-up, depends on the satellite condition, and very expensive. The IEEE 1588 specification provides a low-cost means for clock synchronisation over a broadband Internet connection. The Time of Packet (ToP) specified in IEEE 1588 is able to synchronize distributed clocks with an accuracy of less than one microsecond in packet networks. However, the timing synchronization over packet switched networks is a difficult task because packet networks introduce large and highly variable packet delays. This paper proposes an enhanced filter algorithm to reduce ths packet delay variation effects and maintain ToP slave clock synchronization performance. The results are presented to demonstrate in the intra-networks and show the improved performance case when the efficient ToP filter algorithm is applied.

The heterogeneous LTE-Advanced networks comprising a macrocell and femtocells can provide an efficient solution not only to extend macrocell coverage but also to deal with packet traffics increasing explosively within macrocells. Efficient resource management schemes are necessary to maintain the QoS requirements of versatile multimedia applications in LTE-Advanced networks because their service-continuity may be defected by some delay and information loss. In this paper, we propose a resource allocation method for the heterogeneous LTE-Advancedl networks overlaid with femtocells. Performances are analyzed by simulation.
One of the key elements in the emerging, packet-based long term evolution (LTE) cellular systems is the deployment of multiple femtocells for the improvement of coverage and data rate. However, arbitrary overlaps in the coverage of these femtocells make the handover operation more complex and challenging. As the existing handover strategy of LTE systems considers only carrier to interference plus noise ratio (CINR), it often suffers from resource constraints in the target femtocell, thereby leading to handover failure. In this paper, we propose a new efficient, multi-objective handover solution for LTE cellular systems. The proposed solution considers multiple parameters like signal strength and available bandwidth in the selection of the optimal target cell. This results in a significant increase in the handover success rate, thereby reducing the blocking of handover and new sessions. The overall handover process is modeled and analyzed by a three-dimensional Markov chain. The analytical results for the major performance metrics closely resemble the simulation results. The simulation results show that the proposed multi-objective handover offers considerable improvement in the session blocking rates, session queuing delay, handover latency, and goodput during handover.

This paper proposes a cross-tier interference avoidance scheme to improve femtocell performance in single frequency heterogeneous cellular networks (SFHCN). The scheduled macrocell users located close femtocell base stations cause serious interference to those femtocells so that the performance of femtocell is dramatically deteriorated. To solve this problem, this paper proposes an interference avoidance scheme by reversing the uplink and downlink frames of such femtocells. After reversing the uplink and downlink frames, femtocell base station relays the macrocell user data as well as transmitting its own data. In the 1st relaying link, femtocell and macrocell users transmit their data respectively divided uplink frames and in the 2nd relaying link, femtocell base station transmit macrocell and femtocell data using a simultaneously superposition coding scheme. Computer simulation results confirm performance improvement of proposed scheme.

Recently much attention has been devoted to femtocell's potential to improve indoor cellular coverage and high speed wireless communications. Femtocell based commercial services have been already launched in some countries and standardization activities are actively on-going, there has been concern however over potential issues of interference between femtocells and the micro/macro networks. With universal frequency reuse, the ensuing cross-tier interference causes unacceptable data rate and outage probability, so an analysis of effect of interference in femtocell embedded networks would be necessary for a stable system design. This paper investigates the effect of interference on system performances of femtocell embedded hierarchical cell structure (HCS) networks considering the characteristics of propagation environments. Various channel parameters are specially considered for indoor environments where most of femtocells are deployed to investigate the effect of interference of femtocell embedded RCS networks. System capacity and coverage are provided with variant distance between macrocell and femtocell, location of the user in femtocell coverage, and characteristic of building structures.

Femtocell is an economical solution to provide high speed indoor communication instead of the conventional macro-cellular networks. Especially, OFDMA femtocell is considered in the next generation cellular network such as 3GPP LTE and mobile WiMAX system. Although the femtocell has great advantages to accommodate indoor users, interference management problem is a critical issue to operate femtocell network. Existing OFDMA resource management algorithms only consider optimizing system-centric metric, and cannot manage the co-channel interference. Moreover, it is hard to cooperate with other femtocells to control the interference, since the self-configurable characteristics of femtocell. This paper proposes a novel interference-aware resource allocation algorithm for OFDMA femtocell networks. The proposed algorithm allocates resources according to a new objective function which reflects the effect of interference, and the heuristic algorithm is also introduced to reduce the complexity of the original problem. The Monte-Carlo simulation is performed to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm compared to the existing solutions.

The heterogeneous LTE (Long Term Evolution)-Advanced networks comprising a macrocell and femtocells can provide an efficient solution not only to extend macrocell coverage but also to deal with packet traffics increasing explosively within macrocells. An efficient resource management scheme is necessary to maintain the QoS (Quality of Service) of mobile multimedia services because the LTE-Advanced system should support not only voice but also mobile applications such as data, image and video. This paper proposes a resource management scheme to guarantee QoS continuity of multimedia services and to maximize the resource utilization in OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) based LTE-Advanced systems. This scheme divides the resources into several service blocks and allocates those resources based on the competition between macrocell and femtocell. Simulation results show that it provides better performances than the conventional one in respect of handover failure rate and blocking rate.
In this paper, a new distributed resource allocation algorithm is proposed to alleviate the cross-tier interference for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing access macrocell and femtocell overlay. Specifically, the resource allocation problem is modeled as a non-cooperative game. Based on game theory, we propose an iterative algorithm between subchannel and power allocation called distributed resource allocation which requires no coordination among the two-hierarchy networks. Finally, a macrocell link quality protection process is proposed to guarantee the macrocell UE's quality of service to avoid severe cross-tier interference from femtocells. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can achieve remarkable performance gains as compared to the pure waterfilling algorithm.
