In this paper, a Taguchi-based finite element method (FEM) has been proposed and implemented to assess optimal design parameters for minimum static deflection in laminated composite plate. An orthodox mathematical model (based on higher-order shear deformation plate theory and Green-Lagrange geometrical nonlinearity) has been used to compute the nonlinear central deflection values of laminated composite plates according to Taguchi design of experiment via a self-developed MATLAB computer code. The lay-up scheme, aspect ratio, thickness ratio and the support conditions of the laminated composite plate structure were designated as the governable design parameters. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) is used to investigate the effect of diverse control factors on the nonlinear static responses. Moreover, regression model is developed for predicting the desired responses. The ANOVA revealed that the lay-up scheme alongside the support condition plays vital role in minimizing the central deflection values of laminated composite plate under uniformly distributed load. The conformity test results of Taguchi analysis are also in good agreement with the numerical experimentation results.
The areas around the Nam-Hae are mostly covered in thick soft clay deposits(50∼60.0m). In order to improve the ground in these areas verticals trains have been partially penetrated up to the depth of about 25.0m. However, since the predicted values of settlement have often been changed at some predicted time. Finite element analysis was performed to investigate the consolidation behaviour for it. The results from FEM was compared with various observational methods.
In this paper, a theoretical formulation of a simplified wheel-set model for collision-induced derailments was evaluated by numerical simulations for the wheel-climb derailment and wheel-lift derailment types. The derailment types were classified into the wheel-climb derailment and the wheel-lift derailment according to the friction force direction of the wheel-flange. The wheel-climb derailment type was classified into Climb-up, Climb/Roll-over, and Roll-over-C, and wheel-lift derailment type was classified into Slip-up, Slip/Roll-over and Roll-over-L. To verify the theoretical equations derived for the wheel-climb derailment and the wheel-lift derailment, dynamic simulations using RecurDyn of Functionbay and Ls-Dyna of LSTC were performed and compared for some examples. The derailment predictions of the suggested theoretical formulation were in good agreement with those of the numerical simulations. The direction of the frictional force between the wheel-flange and the rail can be well predicted using the suggested derailment formulation at a initial derailment.

The precision cold forging of helical gear for steering pinion has been studied. Because of the large helix angle, there are many difficult problems to control the material flow and part dimension. The die shape was proposed to improve the flow of workpiece. In order to improve the dimensional accuracy of forged part, a FE analysis was performed. The proposed die shape drives to flow amicably workpiece. The applied load was reduced up to 10 percent, compared to the conventional-shaped-die. The elastic deformation of die has been investigated quantitatively by the 3-dimensional FE analysis. The die-land has been expanded up to $10{\mu}m$ on loading stage, based on the FEM results. Therefore, the elastic deformation amounts should be taken into consideration to improve the dimensional accuracy of forged helical gear.
The flow forming has been used to produce long thin walled tube parts, with reduced forming load and enhanced mechanical and surface quality for a good finished part compared with other method formed parts. So flow forming technique is used widely in industrial production. Especially spinning and flow farming techniques an used frequently in automotive, aerial, defense industry. In this paper, FEM analysis of three-roller backward flow forming of a workpiece is carried out to study effects of forming depth and feed rate on forming force. The axial and radial forces on several forming depth and feed rate conditions are obtained. The phenomena such as bell mouth, build up and bulging during simulation are observed as well.
In this paper, it is treated the design and characteristics analysis of the voice coil type LOA which is composed of a voice coil type mover and permanent magnets. The design is acomplished using FEM analysis to make up the magnetic circuit. And the characteristics of LOA are analyzed to be used on the control system for the earthquake-proof experiments.
Clinically, proximal bone resorption in the femur is frequently seen postoperatively on the follow up X-rays after total hip replacement(THR). We developed the finite element model of cementless THR. The model is two dimensional side plate model, whereby the three dimensional structural integrity of the bone can be accounted for by a separate two dimensional mesh, a side plate. The subject of this article is the development and application of this two dimensional side plate FEM to study the reverse effect of the various degree of bone resorption of femur after THR. The results of this study indicates that two dimensional side plate model is good and simple alternative to complex three dimensional model and the severity of the proximal bone resorption has the effect of more increasing stress on the cortex at the level of femoral stem tip.
There have been few papers using finite element method(FEM) to analyze arc driving force for spiral type vacuum interrupter electrode up to date while there have been many papers dealing with AMF type electrode by means of FEM. AMF analysis is very important in AMF type electrode because it has proportional relation with effective area which means the area of magnetic flux density above critical magnetic flux density to diffuse arc. In the same manner, arc driving force is an important factor to drive arc by Lorentz force. In this paper two models were calculated and compared by using commercial FEM software Maxwell 3D.

The deformation under radial pressure of rectangular dies for metal powder compaction has been investigated by FEM. The explored variables have been: aspect ratio of die profile, ratio between diagonal of the profile and die height, insert and ring thickness, radius at die corners, interference, different insert materials, i. e. conventional HSS, HSS from powders, cemented carbide (10% Co). The analyses have ascertained the unwanted appearance of tensile normal stress on brittle materials, also "at rest", and even some dramatic changes of stress patterns as the die height increases with respect to the rectangular profile dimensions. Different materials behave differently, mainly due to difference of thermal expansion coefficients. Profile changes occur when the dies are heated up to the temperature required for warm compaction. The deformation patterns depend on compaction temperature and thermal expansion coefficients.
