Effects of Synchronization of Carbohydrate and Protein Supply in Total Mixed Ration with Korean Rice Wine Residue on Ruminal Fermentation, Nitrogen Metabolism and Microbial Protein Synthesis in Holstein Steers

  • Three Holstein steers in the growing phase, each with a ruminal cannula, were used to test the hypothesis that the synchronization of the hourly rate of carbohydrate and nitrogen (N) released in the rumen would increase the amount of retained nitrogen for growth and thus improve the efficiency of microbial protein synthesis (EMPS). In Experiment 1, in situ degradability coefficients of carbohydrate and N in feeds including Korean rice wine residue (RWR) were determined. In Experiment 2, three total mixed ration (TMR) diets having different rates of carbohydrate and N release in the rumen were formulated using the in situ degradability of the feeds. All diets were made to contain similar contents of crude protein (CP) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) but varied in their hourly pattern of nutrient release. The synchrony index of the three TMRs was 0.51 (LS), 0.77 (MS) and 0.95 (HS), respectively. The diets were fed at a restricted level (2% of the animal's body weight) in a $3{\times}3$ Latin-square design. Synchronizing the hourly supply of energy and N in the rumen did not significantly alter the digestibility of dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, NDF or acid detergent fiber (ADF) (p>0.05). The ruminal $NH_3$-N content of the LS group at three hours after feeding was significantly higher (p<0.05) than that of the other groups; however, the mean values of ruminal $NH_3$-N, pH and VFA concentration among the three groups were not significantly different (p>0.05). In addition, the purine derivative (PD) excretion in urine and microbial-N production (MN) among the three groups were not significantly different (p>0.05). In conclusion, synchronizing dietary energy and N supply to the rumen did not have a major effect on nutrient digestion or microbial protein synthesis (MPS) in Holstein steers.

FREQUENCY OF COTTONSEED CAKE SUPPLEMENTATION FOR YEARLING HEIFERS ON BLUE GRAMA RANGE

  • Yearling replacement heifers were used in a two-year study at the Fort Stanton Experimental Ranch near Capitan, New Mexico, USA to compare frequency (once versus three times weekly) of feeding a cottonseed cake supplement. The study involved periods of 130 days (January 4 through May 14) in 1985, and 146 days (December 4 through April 29) in 1986. In each year, supplemental periods were just before the breeding season (natural breeding in multiple-sire groups) that lasted for 75 days during first year and 60 days during second year. During the first year, all (83) heifers (Angus $\times$ Hereford) were supplemented at a level equivalent to 45 kg/head daily and during second year, all (69) heifers (Angus $\times$ Hereford, Hereford) were fed at a level equivalent to .68 kg/head daily. In the first year, heifers were sorted by initial weight into two replications, i.e., those weighing under 223 kg were placed in replicate 1 and those weighing over 223 kg were placed in replicate 2. During the second year, heifers were sorted by breed into two replications, i.e., Angus $\times$ Hereford heifers were placed in replicate 1 and Hereford heifers in replicate 2. Each year, half of the heifers in each replication were supplemented once weekly and the other half three time weekly. Weight gains of heifers were similar for the two treatments over both years of study. During the first year, weight gains for heifers supplemented once or thrice weekly (.23 vs .21 kg daily, respectively) did not differ (p>.05) and the same trend for the second year (.15 vs .16 kg daily, respectively) was observed. Similarly, breeding performance was consistent with weight gains and no difference (p>.05) between treatments was observed either year. Lower conception rates during the second tear of study (92 vs 72% for years 1 and 2, respectively) were due mainly to involvement of Hereford heifers that had an average weight of 232 kg at the start of breeding season and conception rate of 54% (averaged across both supplemental treatments). Based on the combined results of both trials, frequency of supplementation did not affect growth rate of yearling heifers nor did it influence their subsequent conception rate.

The Effect of a Natural Zeolite (Clinoptilolite) on the Performance of Broiler Chickens and the Quality of Their Litter

  • The objective of this study was to assess the effect of clinoptilolite (a natural zeolite) on growth and performance of broilers as well as on the quality of their litter. A total of 5,200 one-day old broiler chickens (Cobb 500) were used in two consecutive rounds lasting 42 days each. The broilers were given free and continuous access to a nutritionally non-limiting diet (in meal form) that was either a basal diet (B) or a 'zeolite diet' (Z; the basal diet supplemented with clinoptilolite at a level of 2%). A $2{\times}2$ factorial design consisted of two feeding treatments (B and Z) and two bedding types, sawdust (S) and sawdust with zeolite (Sz, which was the result of adding $2kg\;zeolite/m^2$), was used. In each round the broilers were randomly assigned to one of four (n = 650), treatment groups: two fed on the basal diet (B) and had bedding of either sawdust (group BS) or sawdust and zeolite (group BSz) and two fed on the Z diet and had as bedding either sawdust (ZS) or sawdust and zeolite (ZSz). Average growth rates were significantly (p<0.05) different between broilers of different groups; broilers that were fed on the 'zeolite diet' (Z) and were placed either in a compartment with sawdust bedding or sawdust bedding and zeolite (ZS and ZSz) as well those that were fed on the basal diet in a compartment with sawdust bedding and zeolite (BSz) grew at a faster rate (p<0.05) compared with those of the control group (BS). The incorporation of NZ in broilers diets and in their bedding material decreased the organic content in litter samples throughout the experimental period. The lowest organic content was recorded in group ZSz where NZ was added in both feed and litter. Mean ammonia concentration (ppm) was significantly higher in group ZS in comparison to groups BSz and ZSz (27.00 vs. 20.55 and 21.71 respectively). The results of this study showed that the incorporation of the clinoptilolite both in feed and into the litter had a positive effect on broiler growth and also on the quality of their litter.

석탄 화력발전소에서 발생하는 미연분의 특성분석 및 저감방법 (Characteristics of Carbonaceous Particles Derived from Coal-fired Power Plant and Their Reduction)

  • 영흥 화력발전소 1호기 보일러에서 발생된 미연분은 석탄 회의 재활용 및 보일러 효율 측면에서 문제를 일으키고 있었다. 본 연구에서는 미연분 및 사용 석탄의 특성과 현장의 연소조건 분석을 수행하고 보일러 운전조건을 변경하므로서 보일러에서 발생되는 미연분을 저감하고자 하였다. 미연분의 물리, 화학적 분석 결과 대부분 중공(中空)형태의 Cenosphere와 뭉쳐진(Agglomerated) 형태의 Soot로 이루어져 있었다. 영흥 화력발전소에서 사용중인 6개 탄종에 대하여 Tar 및 Soot의 발생 가능량을 CPD(Chemical Percolation Devolatilization) 모델을 이용하여 조사한 결과, Sanseo, Ensham, Elk Valley 탄의 경우 그 발생 가능량이 비교적 적었으며 Peabody, Arthur, Shenhua 탄은 높았다. 영흥 화력발전소 1호기 보일러의 각 미분탄 공급관에서의 미분탄 공급량을 측정하였는데 코너 별로 공급되는 몇몇 버너에서 미분탄이 편중되어 공급되고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이에 따라 soot가 주성분인 미연분의 산화율을 증가시키기 위하여 과잉공기량을 증가시키고 산화제와의 혼합정도를 높이기 위하여 SOFA(Separated Over Fire Air)의 yaw 각도를 적절히 조절함으로서 미연분의 발생량을 현저히 감소시킬 수 있었다.

순치 기간에 따른 육봉형 산천어(Oncorhynchus masou masou)의 해수 적응능력 (Seawater Adaptability of Land-locked Masu Salmon Oncorhynchus masou masou by Acclimation)

  • The seawater adaptability of land-locked masu salmon Oncorhynchus masou masou via acclimation was examined for aquaculture purposes. The survival, blood chemistry, and histological changes of masu salmon (150 g) were measured after 7-, 15-, and 30-day acclimation periods. After a total of 60 days in seawater cultures that incorporated the various acclimation periods, survival was 83.5, 87.2, and 91.0% for the 7-, 15-, and 30-day periods, respectively; thus, survival increased with longer periods of acclimation. Feeding efficiencies were 32.1, 52.0, and 40.6% for the 7-, 15-, and 30-day periods, and specific growth rates were 0.14, 0.26, and 0.23%, respectively. Generally, masu salmon appeared to exhibit better growth performance after an acclimation period of 15 days. Cortisol concentrations [mean ${\pm}$ SD] for 7, 15, and 30 days of acclimation were $21.0{\pm}6.5$, $17.8{\pm}4.8$, and $21.2{\pm}5.4\;{\mu}g/dl$, with the lowest values occurring with 15 days of acclimation. Osmolarities were $359.2{\pm}26.1$, $350.4{\pm}29.2$, and $354.6{\pm}29.3$ mOsm/kg, and glucose concentrations were $60.7{\pm}20.7$, $72.9{\pm}17.3$, and $76.6{\pm}14.1$ mg/dl for the 7-, 15-, and 30-day acclimation periods, respectively (P < 0.05). The histological study revealed that both gills and both kidneys of the masu salmon exhibited middle- to end-stage and middle-stage lesions in the 7- and 15-day groups, respectively, whereas these organs only had early-stage lesions in the 30-day group in the final experiment. Therefore, the seawater acclimation of masu salmon should involve more than 30 days in seawater.

IEA-CFBC 모델을 이용한 저급탄의 순산소 연소 특성 분석 (Analysis of Oxygen Combustion Characteristics of a Low Grade Coal Using IEA-CFBC Model)

  • 에너지 공급 안정과 온실가스 저감이라는 목표를 달성하기 위해 저등급 석탄의 순산소 순환유동층 보일러의 적용이 새롭게 모색되고 있다. 아직까지 실증 단계의 개발이 진행되고 있기에 순산소 순환유동층 보일러에서의 저급탄 이용을 위해 주입 공기량, 조업 온도, 연료 공급량 등의 변화에 따른 연소 특성이 고찰되어야 상용 모델을 위한 설계 기준을 선정할 수 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 공기 연소로 개발된 IEA-CFBC 모델을 순산소 연소를 전산모사하도록 개조하였고 새로운 순산소 순환유동층 모델을 이용하여 온도($800^{\circ}C{\sim}900^{\circ}C$), 산소 농도(21%~41%), 석탄 주입량, Ca/S 비율(1.5~4.0) 등의 다양한 조건에서 순산소 연소 특성을 고찰하였다. 공기 연소와 비교하여, 순산소 조건에서의 보일러 온도가 높았으나 산소 농도가 증가함에 따라 보일러의 온도구배는 감소하는 경향을 나타냈다. 더불어 Ca/S 비율, 산소농도가 높을수록 탈황 효율이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다.

큰검정풍뎅이와 참검정풍뎅이의 산란활동 (Oviposition Activities of Larger Black Chafer (Holotrichia morosa Waterhouse) and Korean Black Chafer (H. diomphalia Bates))

  • 1985~1990년에 실내 및 야외에서 큰검정풍뎅이와 참검정풍뎅이의 산란활동을 조사하였다. 실온하에서 큰검정풍뎅이와 참검정풍뎅이의 산란기간은 31.70$\pm$13.33일, 61.17$\pm$23.15일, 실제산란일수는 9.00$\pm$5.03일, 22.33$\pm$11.72일, 자충당 총산란수는 23.43$\pm$16.26립, 65.67$\pm$37.97립, 자충당 1일 산란수는 2.60$\pm$2.50립, 2.94$\pm$2.34립으로 자충당 총산란수의 차이는 주로 산란일수에 기인하는 것으로 보였다. 큰검정풍뎅이에 있어 실온하에서의 산란시기는 야외에서의 산란시기보다 현저히 늦어졌으나, 참검정풍뎅이에 있어서는 실온과 야외에서의 산란시기가 거의 중복되었다. 야외에서 참거정풍뎅이의 장란충율은 큰검정풍뎅이보다 명백히 높았으나 장란충당 장랑수는 두 종이 거의 같았다. 참검정풍뎅이 성충은 망실 내에서 잡초의 초종간에 뚜렷한 산란 및 섭식선호성을 보이지 않았다.

  • 경부수활액낭종과 임파관종은 선천적으로 임파계가 발육이 정지되거나 방해 받으므로 나타나는 병소로 현재까지도 그 본태가 명확히 밝혀지지 않은 질환이다. 본 증례에서는 좌측 하악 우각부 및 상경부에 동통을 동반한 미만성 종창 및 연하장애로 1991년 7월 20일 본원을 내원한 5세 여아에서 임상 소견 및 방사선 소견을 통해 좌측 하악 우각부 및 상경부에 발생한 경부수활액낭종으로 진단하여 악하부 절개를 통해 $1{\time}6{\time}5cm$의 크기를 다방성 낭종구조를 가진 종물을 외과적으로 적출한 증례에 있어서 술후 현재까지 재발 등의 증상없이 양호한 결과를 얻었기에 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다.

국내산(國內産) 미립(微粒) 석탄(石炭)의 품위향상(品位向上)을 위한 부유선별(浮遊選別) 연구(硏究) (Flotation for Improving Grade of Domestic Fine Coal)

  • 본 연구는 고정탄소 57.39%의 미립 석탄으로부터 고품위 석탄 생산의 가능성을 확인하고자 하여 광물학적, 물리화학적 방법과 단체분리도의 특성을 파악하여 청정 석탄 기술의 처리과정에서 회분을 감소시키는데 목적이 있다. 본 연구에서 일반부선과 미립자 처리에 적합한 column 부선기의 최신형인 CPT column 부선을 적용하여 기포제, 포수제, 억제제의 종류와 첨가량의 변화, 공기주입량, 급광량 그리고 광액농도에 따른 영향을 확인하였다. 먼저 광액농도 20%, 포수제 DMU-101 (100 mL/ton), 기포제 AF65(300 mL/ton), 억제제 sodium metaphosphate(1 kg/ton)의 실험조건으로 일반부선을 실시한 결과, 회분제거율과 가연분회수율(combustible recovery)을 각각 67.57%와 70.90%를 얻었으며, 광액농도 3%, 포수제 DMU-101(100mL/ton), 기포제 AF65(10 L/ton), 억제제 sodium metaphosphate(1 kg/ton), 세척수(100 mL/min.)와 공기주입량(1,200 mL/min.)인 조건에서 CPT column 부선을 실시한 결과 회분제거율과 가연분회수율이 각각 85.59%와 88.97%인 결과를 얻었다.

마황 추출물의 나노 입자화를 통한 항암 활성 증진 (Enhancement of Anticancer Activities of Ephedra sinica Stapf Extracts by Nano-encapsulation)

  • This study showed the increase of antitumor activities of water soluble E. sinica extract by nano-encapsulation process with lecithin. Five groups of lecithin only group (LO), lecithin nano-encapsulated E. sinica group (LE), E. sinica only group (EO), one negative control group (NCO) and positive control group (PCO) were set for several anticancer experiment and fed into Sarcoma-180 injected mice. The cytotoxicity of LE on the human normal kidney cell (HEK293) showed 14.8% lower than 19.2% of EO and 18.4% of LO. Growth of human liver carcinoma cell and human stomach carcinoma cell as representative of digestive system in vitro was inhibited up to about 85.1% and 87.3%, in adding 1.0 mg/$m{\ell}$ of LE, which values 15% higher than that from conventional EO. The survival rates of each mice group were 40%, 63%, 48%, 33% and 100%, respectively after 40 days of injecting Sarcoma-180. The increment of their body weights of the extract feeding groups was suppressed down to 10~15%, compared to the negative control. The nano-particles also reduced the hypertrophy of the internal organs such as spleen and liver down to 15~20%, compared to those as the other groups. Among them, LE effectively reduced the size of tumor form to 20%. From these results, in vitro and in vivo antitumor activities of E. sinica could be enhanced by using nano-encapsulation process with lecithin because of better permeation into the cancer cells by confocal observations.
