Effects of feeding ethanol on growth performances, carcass characteristics, and lipid metabolism of finishing Korean cattle (Hanwoo) steers

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of feeding ethanol on growth performances, carcass characteristics, and lipid metabolism of finishing Korean cattle (Hanwoo) steers. Methods: Thirty (30) Hanwoo steers (average 25.1 months of age, body weight 660.1 kg) were assigned to three treatments: control (0% ethanol), E-3 (1.44% ethanol for 3 months), or E-5 (0.72% ethanol for 2 months followed by 1.44% ethanol for 3 months). The animals were allotted by treatment group into six pens and fed concentrate and perennial ryegrass. Ethanol (30%, v/v) was supplemented into drinking water twice a day to meet final concentrations based on average water consumption of finishing Hanwoo steers. Results: There were no statistical differences among the groups in final body weight, average daily gain, or carcass yield grade indices such as cold carcass weight, fat thickness, and loin area. The marbling score tended (p = 0.228) to increase with the highest score (6.7) in the E-5 group followed by 6.3 and 6.0 in E-3 and control groups, respectively. The appearance frequencies of quality grades of $1^{{+}{+}}$ (the best), $1^{+}$, 1, and 2, were; 30%, 50%, 0%, and 20% for control, 10%, 80%, 10%, and 0% for E-3, and 10%, 80%, 0%, and 10% for E-5 groups, respectively, indicating improvements of quality grades by feeding ethanol. Concentrations of serum glucose tended to decrease whereas those of insulin and non-esterified fatty acid to increase by feeding ethanol (E-3 and E-5; p>0.05). Conclusion: Feeding ethanol directly into drinking water of finishing Hanwoo steers stimulated lipogenesis in intramuscular adipose tissue (marbling) and thereby improved carcass quality grade. The serum metabolites results supported the hypothesis of lipolysis of existing adipose tissue, such as abdominal fats, and lipogenesis in intramuscular adipocytes.

육용종웅계의 사양방법이 체성장 및 성 성숙에 미치는 영향 (Effects of the Feeding Methods on Body Growth and Sexual Maturity in Broiler Breeder Males)

  • 본 시험은 6가지 다른 사양방법이 White Plymouth Rock 육용종 웅계의 생체중, 정소, 계관 그리고 뇌하수체의 발육 및 성성숙에 미치는 영향을 구명하기 위하여 부화후부터 22주령까지 2주간격으로 생체중, 정소, 계관 그리고 뇌하수체의 중량이 조사되었으며, 또한 정소조직과 정액성상이 조사되었다. 그 얻어진 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 생체중, 정소, 계관의 발육은 10주령 이후부터 무제한급이군들이 제한급이군들(무제한급이군들의 70%급이)보다 2주 더 빠름을 나타내었다. 정소 및 계관의 급증시기는 무제한급이군들에서 20주령이었고, 제한급이군들에서 22주령이었다. 2. 뇌하수체의 무게는 부화후부터 22주령까지 4주령, 14주령, 16주령을 제외하고 각 주령별, 각 처리군간에 유의성이 나타나지 않았다. 뇌하수체의 중량은 주령이 경과하면서 완만한 증가를 나타내었다. 3. 22주령까지에서 주령, 생체중, 정소, 계관 및 뇌하수체간에는 고도의 유의적인 상관관계를 나타내었다. 4. 세정관의 관경과 강경은 부화후부터 10주령까지 점진적으로 증가되다가 무제한 급이군들에서는 12주령부터 제한급이군들에서는 14주령부터 급증하기 시작하였고, 그 후에도 22주령까지 계속증가되었다.

자폐 스펙트럼 장애 섭식장애 평가의 이해: 문헌 고찰 (Understanding Assessment for Feeding Disorders in Autistic Spectrum Disorders: A Literature Review)

  • 목적 : 자폐 스펙트럼 장애(Autistic Spectrum Disorders: ASD) 아동은 감각 처리, 제한된 흥미, 행동, 인지, 사회성, 구강 운동, 소화 등 복합적인 원인으로 인해 섭식장애가 흔하게 동반된다. 주요한 섭식장애 문제로는 식사 시간 행동 문제, 까다로운 먹기, 선택적 먹기, 새로운 음식 거부, 음식 다양성 저하 등이며 이로 인해 영양 섭취 및 건강 문제, 발달, 사회적 활동 참여 제한, 가족과 보호자 스트레스를 유발하기도 한다. 따라서 ASD 아동의 섭식장애를 조기에 확인하여 적절한 중재 제공과 적합한 평가도구 사용이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 최신 문헌 고찰을 통해 ASD 아동의 섭식장애 평가도구에 대한 심도 있는 이해를 위한 고찰을 실시하였다. 연구방법 : 본 연구는 ASD, ASD의 섭식문제, ASD의 섭식평가 등의 키워드를 검색하여 최근 약 10년간의 선행연구를 바탕으로 ASD 섭식문제 평가도구를 분석하였다. 결과 : ASD 섭식장애 평가는 직접 평가와 간접 평가로 나뉘는데 그 중, 부모와 보호자가 아동의 전반적인 상황을 척도화 한 질문지나 평가도구로 측정하는 간접 평가가 주로 사용되고 있었다. 평가는 주로 식사 시간 중 아동이 보이는 섭식 행동, 구강 및 미각 관련 감각 처리, 음식 선택 및 선호도를 확인하였으며 보호자의 섭식 태도가 아동의 섭식 행동에 미치는 영향을 평가하기도 하였다. 결론 : ASD 아동의 섭식 장애 평가는 1) 식사 시간 섭식 행동, 2) 감각 처리, 3) 섭취 음식, 4) 기타로 구분되었다. ASD 아동의 주요한 섭식장애 특징은 매우 다양하기 때문에 종합적인 평가가 이루어져야 하지만 아직 제한적이다. 또한 구강 운동 기능, 소화 등 추가적인 영역의 평가도 고려되어야 할 것으로 보인다. 작업치료사 등 연하재활 전문가는 ASD 아동의 섭식 문제, 행동, 감각 등에 대한 기본적인 이해를 바탕으로 한 종합적인 평가도구를 적용해야 할 것이다.

모유수유 영아모의 애착 지향적 양육행동 및 관련요인 (Attachment-Oriented Caretaking Behaviors and Related Factors in Mothers of Breast-feeding Infants)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the characteristics and the related factors of attachment- oriented caretaking behavior in mothers who are breast-feeding their infants. Method: The subjects were 155 mothers who participated in a healthy breast-feeding contestin the Busan area. The data were collected from September 24, 2003, and were analyzed using SPSS WIN 10.0. Results: The mothers were highly affirmative in their attachment-oriented caretaking behaviors (total mean 2.59±.502 of a possible score of 3). Among the attachment-oriented caretaking behaviors (10 items), the scores for 6 items were higher than the average score and 4 items were lower than the average score. There were significant differences in the attachment-oriented caretaking behaviors according to level of education (p<0.05), and planned duration of breast-feeding (p<0.001). Mothers with university education who planned to breast-feed as long as the baby wanted had higher scores. Conclusions: The above results suggest that nursing interventions which are individualized and practical are needed to encourage the attachment-oriented caretaking behaviors essential to breast-feeding mothers.

무선 LAN용 이중 편파 2 X 2 배열 안테나 (Dual-Polarized 2 X 2 Array Antenna for Wireless LAN)

  • 본 논문에서는 무선 LAN 시스템에서 편파 다이버시티를 사용하기 위한 이중편파 특성을 가지는 2${\times}$2 배열 안테나를 설계, 제작하였다. 이중편파 안테나의 대역폭과 격리특성을 개선하고자 개구면 결합 급전 구조와 L형 이중 프루브 급전 구조를 사용하였다. 제작된 안테나의 -15dB 기준 반사손실 대역폭은 개구면 결합 급전에서 210MHz, L형 이중 프루브 급전에서 280MHz로 측정되었다. 두 입력포트간의 격리특성은 -40dB 이하이며, 안테나 이득은 무선 LAN 동작주파수 대역에서 14.3$\pm$0.2dBi로 측정되었다.

퇴원 후 미숙아의 수유 유형과 영향요인 (Factors Associated with the Method of Feeding Preterm Infants after Hospital Discharge)

  • Purpose: To investigate factors that may affect the method of feeding among preterm infants at 4 weeks after discharge. Methods: This study included 222 mother-infant dyads born before a gestational age of 37 weeks. The feeding method and general medical characteristics of the participants were assessed at 4 weeks after discharge using a structured questionnaire. Multinomial logistic regression analysis was used to examine which factors were associated with breastfeeding at home. Results: Of the 222 infants who qualified for the study, 71 (32.9%) continued to receive breastmilk at 4 weeks post-discharge. Multinomial logistic regression analysis showed that breastfeeding at 4 weeks post-discharge was associated with higher breastfeeding self-efficacy, vaginal delivery (experience), direct breastfeeding in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), gestational age between 30 and 34 weeks, and breastmilk consumption in the NICU. The following factors were associated with mixed feeding at 4 weeks post-discharge: being employed, having higher breastfeeding self-efficacy, and direct breastfeeding in the NICU. Conclusion: NICU nurses should provide opportunities for direct breastfeeding during hospitalization and support breastfeeding to enhance breastfeeding self-efficacy. These factors may help to ensure the continuation of breastfeeding after discharge. Moreover, factors that affect breastfeeding should be considered when providing interventions.

사업체 급식소 근로자의 급식서비스 질에 대한 만족도 조사 (Customer Survey for Foodservice Quality Improvement in Employee Feeding Operations)

  • Customer satisfaction concerning foodservice quality characteristics were evaluated by using importance performance analysis(IPA) techniques in employee feeding operations. The purpose of this study were to survey employees' health condition and their food habits, to examine employees' perception of the importance and performance concerning foodservice quality charactertics and to analyze attributes for quality improvement in employee feeding operations. A questionaire for survey was developed and mailed to 1,700 employees and the response rate was 60.8%. Statistical data analysis was done using the SAS programs for descriptive analysis, $x^2$-test, F-test and Fisher's LSD. The results of this study were as follows 1. Most of employees responded that their health condition were generally good. 2. 17.8% of surveyed employees responded that they usually skipped their breakfast. 3. Main reasons of using employee feeding facilities identified were convenience and cheap price of meals. 4. Dissatisfied quality attributes identified were taste of food, atmosphere and location d dinning room, and the quality of food served for breakfast and dinner, 5. Satisfied quality attributes identified were nutritionally balanced meal with variety, competitive managerial skills of dietetian, and quality of food served for lunch.

Effects of Feeding and Processing Methods of Diets on Performance, Morphological Changes in the Small Intestine and Nutrient Digestibility in Growing-Finishing Pigs

  • These experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of different feeding and processing methods of diets on performance, morphological changes in the small intestine and nutrient digestibility of growing-finishing pigs. One-hundred fifty growing pigs ($Yorkshire{\times}Landrace{\times}Duroc$; initial body weight of $23.33{\pm}0.75kg$) and one-hundred twenty finishing pigs ($Yorkshire{\times}Landrace{\times}Duroc$; initial body weight of $59.22{\pm}0.56kg$) were used in Exp. 1 and Exp. 2, respectively. Pigs were grouped on the basis of body weight and gender, and randomly allotted into 6 different treatments with 5 replications in each treatment in a $2{\times}3$ factorial arrangement. Treatments were 1) dry feeding with a mash diet (DM), 2) dry feeding with a pelleted diet (DP), 3) dry feeding with an expanded crumble diet (DEC), 4) dry/wet feeding with a mash diet (WM), 5) dry/wet feeding with a pelleted diet (WP), and 6) dry/wet feeding with an expanded crumble diet (WEC). In Exp. 1 (growing phase), there was no significant difference in average daily gain (ADG) and average daily feed intake (ADFI) among treatments during the entire experimental period, but feed conversion ratio (FCR) was significantly (p<0.05) improved in pigs fed pelleted diets regardless of feeding method. FCR was best in pigs fed a DP diet and worst in pigs fed a WM diet. Pigs fed a pelleted diet showed a 6.2% or 4.0% improvement in FCR compared with those fed a mash diet or an expanded crumble diet. Water disappearance was not significantly affected by dry/wet feeding or feed processing. Significant differences in villus height were not found among treatments, but villus height tended to be improved by dry/wet feeding. Dry/wet feeding or feed processing did not affect crypt depth. Digestibilities of calcium and phosphorus were significantly (p<0.05) improved in pigs fed an expanded crumble diet compared with pigs fed mash diets. Especially, pigs fed a WEC diet digested 8.1% more P than those fed a DM diet. Feed cost per kg weight gain (FCG) tended to be increased by dry/wet feeding rather than dry feeding. In Exp. 2 (finishing phase), ADG and ADFI were not significantly different among treatments, but a significant difference in FCR was found among feed processing forms. The best FCR was obtained in pigs fed a pelleted diet. Pigs fed a DP diet showed a 11.3% improvement compared with those fed a DEC diet. Water disappearance was significantly (p=0.0408) decreased by feeding the mash diet. However, water disappearance was not affected by dry/wet feeding during the finishing period. The villus height and crypt depth were not significantly different among treatments. However, crypt depth tended to be decreased by dry/wet feeding at the mid part of the small intestine. Fat digestibility was improved by dry feeding rather than dry/wet feeding, and was improved by 4.8% by feeding pellet diets compared with expanded crumble diets. Except for carcass grade, carcass characteristics were not significantly (p<0.05) different among treatments. Carcass grade was the best in pigs fed a WP diet. Feed cost per kg weight gain (FCG) was significantly decreased in pigs fed a pelleted diet compared with those fed an expanded crumble diet, and tended to be decreased by dry/wet feeding. In conclusion, these studies suggest that feeding the pelleted diet to growing-finishing pigs can be beneficial in terms of FCR and production cost. Dry/wet feeding can be helpful for the maintenance of villus height, but may not be reflected in improved growth performance or reduction of production costs.

Seam Characteristics of Breathable Waterproof Fabrics with Various Finishing Methods

  • We evaluated the seam characteristics with finishing, seaming and sealing processes and seam Puckering behavior of the breathable waterproof fabrics with laser scan. There were differences in 99% significant level between the seamed fabric and the sealed fabric. Seam breakage was initiated with the breakage of sewing thread, so the seam strength after seaming was almost uniform. The sewn seam strength and elongation increased with sealing process in all finishing methods. Pucker grade of laminating type was generally much higher than that of the coating type. We confirmed that wave length and amplitude have more important meaning than the number of weave in the breathable waterproof fabrics. The puckering in breathable waterproof fabrics is mainly occurred by inherent and feeding pucker. The former if due to the insertion of sewing thread and the littler is caused by differential feeding when two pieces of fabric are fed into the gap between a press foot and needle plate.

고속 이송 방식 Laser Cutting M/C의 절단성 평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on Cutting Characteristics Evaluation of High Speed Feeing Type Laser Cutting M/C)

  • A high speed feeding type laser cutting M/C is developed for precise cutting of sheet metal. This paper has been carried out to obtain cutting characteristics and optimal cutting conditions of the developed high speed feeding type laser cutting M/C by a design of experiments. Cutting speed. laser power. laser duty and gas pressure are control factors for the surface roughness. The major factors affecting the surface roughness and the optimum cutting conditions are studied with minimum experiments using Taguchi method.
