  • To add alloying elements into a pure copper melt, the wire-feeding efficiency of cored (alloy containing) wire was evaluated using a commercial, computational fluid-dynamics program. The model design was based on an industrial-scale production line. The variables calculated included wire feed rate, melt temperature, wire diameter, melt flow rate and wire temperature. Efficiency was evaluated after a series of calculations based on the penetration depth of the alloy-wire into the molten copper bath. Of the five variables investigated, the wire feed rate and wire diameter were the most influential factors affecting the feeding efficiency of the cored-wire.

  • In the chemical industry, in the pharmaceutical industry, and in a number of other industries separation processes are necessary to separate and purify products and raw materials [1,2]. Separation processes are also widely used in other applications such as in recycling valuable materials from waste streams. Unit operations for separation processes can be classified in phase separation techniques and component separation techniques based on the nature of the feed mixtures to be separated. The former techniques are used for the separation of heterogeneous mixtures, in which the feed is already present in two or more separated phases on a micro-scale. The latter are suitable for the separation of homogeneous mixtures such as gaseous mixtures and mixtures of completely miscible liquids. tn these cases the separation into individual components is generally achieved by utilizing the differences in physico-chemical properties of components, and is much more difficult compared to phase separation techniques. Separation processes such as distillation, evaporation, liquid-liquid extraction, and crystallization belong to this class.

  • In this study, the stability of an anion exchange membrane water electrolyzer (AEMWE) cell was evaluated in an on-off cycling operation with respect to an applied electric bias, i.e., a current density of 500 mA cm-2, and an open circuit. The ohmic and polarization resistances of the system were monitored during operation (~800 h) using electrochemical impedance spectra. Specific consideration was given to the ohmic resistance of the cell, especially that of the membrane under on-off cycling conditions, by consistently feeding the cell with KOH solution. Owing to an excess feed solution, a momentary increase in the polarization resistance was observed immediately after the open-circuit. The excess feed solution was mostly recovered by subjecting the cell to the applied electric bias. Stability tests on the AEMWE cell under on-off cycling with continuous feeding even under an open circuit can guarantee long-term stability by avoiding an irreversible increase in ohmic and polarization resistances.

  • Drilling tests were carried out austempered ductile cast iron(ADI) to clarify the factors influencing the drilling characteristics of ADI material. The machinability of material was evaluated using high speed steel drill and cobalt contained drill of 6mm diameter. The spheroidal graphite cast iron materials were austemized at 900 .deg. C for 1 hour and then wear was kept at 375 .deg. C for 2 hours. Austempered ductile cast iron contains a great deal of retained austenite which contribustes to an improvement of impact strength. In this paper, machinability of ADI was invastigated by drilling experimentation. The results obtained are as follows:a) Flank wear incresses logarithmically with the increases of cutting time and proportionally with the increases of cutting force. b) Drilling hole number of about 2 times can be educed more step feed than ordinary feed due to the high hardness of ADI material and hardness increasing ascribed to the martensite of retained austenite.

  • In this study, we predict the generation of end-of-life photovoltaic modules when Feed in Tariff applied, in Republic of Korea. Based on the installation of photovoltaic modules, we prepared three different senarios in order to estimate the generation of end-of-life photovoltaic modules. The senarios are i) early worn-out, ii) mid worn-out and iii) late-worn out senario. We selected the mid worn-out senario to estimated the amount of end-of-life photovoltaic modules in this study. Establishment of the end-of-life module generation scenario predicted generation of end-of-life photovoltaic module, and forecasted generation amount of end-of-life module to which Feed in Tariff was applied in consideration of installed photovoltaic modules installed by Feed in Tariff support. The generation of Feed in Tariff-applied end-of-life modules increased from 2021 to 2025 compared to without Feed in Tariff, and since then, the Feed in Tariff-applied end-of-life modules were generated as waste modules during the relevant period (2021 ~ 2025).

  • During the experimental rearing period of common carp in a small simple recirculating aquarium combined with frequent exchanges of water and cleanings, some observations were made on the conditions of fish growing which was directly and instantly affected by the cleaning frequency of strainer, changing rate of water, division and frequency of feed supply, prohibition of excess feeding and the amount of dissolved oxygen. The fish don't seem to be stressed by the manipulation for the change of rearing water, cleaning of detritus in the strainer and filter. It appeared that the most hazzardous matters to fish growth were : 1) supplying feed when fish do not show active response to feed supplied, and 2) giving ample amount of feed at one time. When especially the amount of the feed is within the range fish instantly can swallow, the water clarity is maintained even after feeding operation, but if any excess amount is given the fish intake into mouth much more feed than able to instantly swallow and try to swallow it resulting in much dissolving and suspension of feed materials in water, making the water quite cloudy. Consequently all the water as well as filter bed becomes significantly polluted.

  • Compensatory growth of grower olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) was determined at suboptimal temperature ($13.0{\pm}1.9^{\circ}C$). Fifteen fish averaging 201.1 g per tank were distributed into 18 of 300 L flow-through tanks. Six treatments were prepared in triplicate: fish were hand-fed with an extruded pellet to apparent satiation once a day for 16 weeks (16 WF); and the other five groups of fish were hand-fed for 15, 14, 13, 12 and 10 weeks after 1-, 2-, 3-, 4- and 6-week feed deprivation, referred to as 15 WF, 14 WF, 13 WF, 12 WF and 10 WF, respectively. A linear relationship between body weight of fish and feed deprivation was observed: Y (Body weight of fish) = -1.81X (Weeks of feed deprivation)+201.07, $R^2$ = 0.83. Weight gain of grower olive flounder in 15 WF, 14 WF, 13 WF and 12 WF treatments was comparable to that of fish in 16 WF treatment, but lower than that of fish in 10 WF treatment. Specific growth rate of fish in 15 WF treatment was higher than that of fish in 16 WF, 14 WF and 10 WF treatments. Feed consumption of fish was not affected by feeding regime. Feed and protein efficiency ratios of fish in 15 WF treatment were higher than those of fish in 13 WF, 12 WF and 10 WF treatments. Grower olive flounder could achieve full compensatory growth when fish were daily fed for 12 weeks after 4-week feed deprivation at suboptimal temperature.

  • Effects of the dielectric constant and thickness of a feed substrate on the bandwidth and radiation characteristics of an aperture coupled microstrip patch antenna (ACMPA) are investigated. The optimized return loss bandwidth of an ACMPA increases without the degradation of radiation characteristics as the feed substrate dielectric constant increases for the same feed substrate thickness. The optimized return loss bandwidth of an ACMPA with the dielectric constant of a feed substrate of 10, which is compatible with the high dielectric constant monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) materials, increases without the degradation of radiation characteristics as the thickness of a feed substrate decreases. The ACMPA configuration is suitable for integration with MMICs.

  • Foaming process of waste soda lime glasses by just chemical composition control of vitreous feed materials was investigated to find a novel and efficient recycling process. For the chemical composition control of feed materials, 10 wt. parts of $SiO_2$, 0.5 wt. parts of $Na_2SO_4$, 3.0 wt. parts of $B_2O_3$, and 0.3 wt. parts of carbon black as the foaming agent were mixed with 100 wt. parts of soda-lime vitreous feed powder. Proper conditions for foaming process in tunnel kiln are the foaming temperature of $830{\sim}850^{\circ}C$, the foaming time of 30~35 min, and the vitreous feed powder particle size of -325 mesh. Properties of foamed glass blocks obtained under these foaming conditions showed the density of $0.17{\sim}0.21g/cm^3$, thermal conductivity of $0.06{\pm}0.005kcal/h{\cdot}m{\cdot}^{\circ}C$, moisture absorption of 1.1~1.5%, and compressive strength of $20{\sim}30kgf/mm^2$.

  • This study is to investigate the magnitude, direction and distribution of residual stresses in surface ground plate according to working conditions. The specimens were made of structural carbon steel and were machined in various grinding conditions. These were divided in two groups; heat-treated materials and non-heat-treated materials. In each working condition, let the ground specimen generate displacements using deflection-etching techniques. At the same time, these displacements were precisely measured with electronic micrometer. Through the relation formula between the plane stress and strain, which was derived using these measured data, the values of residual stress are calculated, and the results are analyzed. These results are as follows : 1. According to the working conditions in this experiment, it can be seen that the distribution of residual stress generally had same trend and the maximum residual stress remained in 20~30 ((${\mu}m$) beneath the surface. 2. It is observed that compressive residual stress changes into tensile stress in 5~20 (${\mu}m$) beneath the surface. It is suggested that such phenomenon is originated from the friction effect in grinding process. 3. As the hardness increases by the heat treatment, residual stress increases. 4. As the fatigue strength increases by the compressive residual stress, it is desirable that the dowm feed and table feed reduce. 5. It can be seen that the more great the down feed and table feed increase, the more close the changing point, where the stress changed from compressive to tensile, is colse to the surface. This is due to the resultant effects of the grinding temperature and resistence are larger than the effect of the friction.
