Real-time hybrid substructuring of a base isolated building considering robust stability and performance analysis

  • This paper demonstrates a real-time hybrid substructuring (RTHS) shake table test to evaluate the seismic performance of a base isolated building. Since RTHS involves a feedback loop in the test implementation, the frequency dependent magnitude and inherent time delay of the actuator dynamics can introduce inaccuracy and instability. The paper presents a robust stability and performance analysis method for the RTHS test. The robust stability method involves casting the actuator dynamics as a multiplicative uncertainty and applying the small gain theorem to derive the sufficient conditions for robust stability and performance. The attractive feature of this robust stability and performance analysis method is that it accommodates linearized modeled or measured frequency response functions for both the physical substructure and actuator dynamics. Significant experimental research has been conducted on base isolators and dampers toward developing high fidelity numerical models. Shake table testing, where the building superstructure is tested while the isolation layer is numerically modeled, can allow for a range of isolation strategies to be examined for a single shake table experiment. Further, recent concerns in base isolation for long period, long duration earthquakes necessitate adding damping at the isolation layer, which can allow higher frequency energy to be transmitted into the superstructure and can result in damage to structural and nonstructural components that can be difficult to numerically model and accurately predict. As such, physical testing of the superstructure while numerically modeling the isolation layer may be desired. The RTHS approach has been previously proposed for base isolated buildings, however, to date it has not been conducted on a base isolated structure isolated at the ground level and where the isolation layer itself is numerically simulated. This configuration provides multiple challenges in the RTHS stability associated with higher physical substructure frequencies and a low numerical to physical mass ratio. This paper demonstrates a base isolated RTHS test and the robust stability and performance analysis necessary to ensure the stability and accuracy. The tests consist of a scaled idealized 4-story superstructure building model placed directly onto a shake table and the isolation layer simulated in MATLAB/Simulink using a dSpace real-time controller.

Realistic Seeing Through Method and Device Through Adaptive Registration between Building Space and Telepresence Indoor Environment

  • We propose a realistic seeing through visualization methods in mixed reality environment. When a user wants to see specific location beyond a wall in indoor environment. The proposed system recognizes and registers the selected area using environment modelling and feature-based tracking. Then the selected area is diminished and the specific location is visualized in real-time. With the proposed seeing through methods, a user can understand spatial relationship of the building and can easily find the target location. We conducted a user study comparing the seeing through method to conventional indoor navigation service in order to investigate the potential of the proposed seeing through method. The proposed seeing through method was evaluated in navigation time in comparison with conventional approach. The proposed method enable users to navigate target locations 30% faster than the conventional approach.

Breaking character and natural image based CAPTCHA using feature classification (특징 분리를 통한 자연 배경을 지닌 글자 기반 CAPTCHA 공격)

  • CAPTCHA(Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart) is a test used in computing to distinguish whether or not the user is computer or human. Many web sites mostly use the character-based CAPTCHA consisting of digits and characters. Recently, with the development of OCR technology, simple character-based CAPTCHA are broken quite easily. As an alternative, many web sites add noise to make it harder for recognition. In this paper, we analyzed the most recent CAPTCHA, which incorporates the addition of the natural images to obfuscate the characters. We proposed an efficient method using support vector machine to separate the characters from the background image and use convolutional neural network to recognize each characters. As a result, 368 out of 1000 CAPTCHAs were correctly identified, it was demonstrated that the current CAPTCHA is not safe.

  • Generally, pixel-based classification, utilize the similarity of distances between the pixel values in feature space, is applied to land use mapping using satellite remote sensing data. But this method is Improper to be applied to the very high resolution satellite data (VHRS) due to complexity of the spatial structure and the variety of pixel values. In this paper, we performed the hierarchical classification of VHRS imagery by data fusion, which integrated LiDAR height and intensity information. MLC and ISODATA methods were applied to IKONOS-2 imagery with and without LiDAR data prior to the hierarchical classification, and then results was evaluated. In conclusion, the hierarchical method with LiDAR data was the superior than others in VHRS imagery and both MLC and ISODATA classification with LiDAR data were better than without.

PMS EVOLUTION MODEL GRIDS AND THE INITIAL MASS FUNCTION

  • Five contemporary pre-main sequence (PMS) evolution model grids are compared with the photo-metric data for a nearly complete sample of low-mass members in NGC 2264. From amongst the grids compared, the models of Baraffe et al. (1998) prove to be the most reliable in mass-age distribution. To overcome the limited mass range of the models of Baraffe et al. we derived a simple transformation relation between the mass of a PMS star from Swenson et al. (1994) and that from Baraffe et al., and applied it to the PMS stars in NGC 2264 and the Orion nebula cluster (ONC). The resulting initial mass function (IMF) of the ONC shows that the previous interpretation of the IMF is not a real feature, but an artifact caused by the evolution models adopted. The IMFs of both clusters are in a good agreement with the IMF of the field stars in the solar neighborhood. This result supports the idea proposed by Lada, Strom, & Myers (1993) that the field stars originate from the stars that are formed in clusters and spread out as a result of dynamical dissociation. Nevertheless, the IMFs of OB associations and young open clusters show diverse behavior. For the low-mass regime, the current observations suffer from difficulties in membership assignment and sample incompleteness. From this, we conclude that a more thorough study of young open clusters is necessary in order to make any definite conclusions on the existence of a universal IMF.

  • With the development of the game industry, 'games about games,' which examine the identity of game itself through a form of the game, emerged with a variety of shapes. Thus, this paper aims to suggest a definition, characteristics, and meaning of 'meta game.' Firstly, meta games strengthen the artificiality of the games and suggest procedurality through a form of the game play. Meta games also utilize the external context as a part of the games, and use the metaphor of 'labyrinth' to identify a feature of the game space. Furthermore, they emphasize intertextuality and prove that the fantasy and the reality can merge within the game world. In conclusion, meta games prove themselves to be independent expressional arts and experimental content, and suggest the potential for an alternative medium beyond formality.

Extraction of Classification Boundary for Fuzzy Partitions and Its Application to Pattern Classification (퍼지 분할을 위한 분류 경계의 추출과 패턴 분류에의 응용)

  • The selection of classification boundaries in fuzzy rule- based classification systems is an important and difficult problem. So various methods based on learning processes such as neural network, genetic algorithm, and so on have been proposed for it. In a previous study, we pointed out the limitation of the methods and discussed a method for fuzzy partitioning in the overlapped region on feature space in order to overcome the time-consuming when the additional parameters for tuning fuzzy membership functions are necessary. In this paper, we propose a method to determine three types of classification boundaries(i.e., non-overlapping, overlapping, and a boundary point) on the basis of statistical information of the given dataset without learning by extending the method described in the study. Finally, we show the effectiveness of the proposed method through experimental results applied to pattern classification problems using the modified IRIS and standard IRIS datasets.

  • Retractable roof system is one of the special feature in stadium or complex structure. And this retractable roof system makes possible to use spacial structure all-weather. This retractable roof system is able to classified into overlapping, parallel movement and folding system. Moving load, impact load, inertial or braking loads, these dynamic loads induced by movements of retractable roof system. So it is necessary to analysis of spacial structures are subjected to these dynamic loads. Dynamic loads that are induced by the retractable roof movements can be applied to moving mass method or moving force method. But, moving force method is appropriate because the retractable roof movements is slow relatively. In this paper, new application method of moving forces induced by the retractable roof movements is proposed. And vibration analysis of spacial structures are executed by using the proposed method. This proposed equivalent moving force can be easily applied to spacial structure that is subjected to dynamic loads induced by movement of the retractable roof system.

HORIZON RUN 4 SIMULATION: COUPLED EVOLUTION OF GALAXIES AND LARGE-SCALE STRUCTURES OF THE UNIVERSE

  • The Horizon Run 4 is a cosmological N-body simulation designed for the study of coupled evolution between galaxies and large-scale structures of the Universe, and for the test of galaxy formation models. Using 63003 gravitating particles in a cubic box of Lbox = 3150 h−1Mpc, we build a dense forest of halo merger trees to trace the halo merger history with a halo mass resolution scale down to Ms = 2.7 × 1011h−1M. We build a set of particle and halo data, which can serve as testbeds for comparison of cosmological models and gravitational theories with observations. We find that the FoF halo mass function shows a substantial deviation from the universal form with tangible redshift evolution of amplitude and shape. At higher redshifts, the amplitude of the mass function is lower, and the functional form is shifted toward larger values of ln(1/σ). We also find that the baryonic acoustic oscillation feature in the two-point correlation function of mock galaxies becomes broader with a peak position moving to smaller scales and the peak amplitude decreasing for increasing directional cosine μ compared to the linear predictions. From the halo merger trees built from halo data at 75 redshifts, we measure the half-mass epoch of halos and find that less massive halos tend to reach half of their current mass at higher redshifts. Implementation of the SLAM System Using a Single Vision and Distance Sensors (단일 영상과 거리센서를 이용한 SLAM시스템 구현)

  • SLAM(Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) system is to find a global position and build a map with sensing data when an unmanned-robot navigates an unknown environment. Two kinds of system were developed. One is used distance measurement sensors such as an ultra sonic and a laser sensor. The other is used stereo vision system. The distance measurement SLAM with sensors has low computing time and low cost, but precision of system can be somewhat worse by measurement error or non-linearity of the sensor In contrast, stereo vision system can accurately measure the 3D space area, but it needs high-end system for complex calculation and it is an expensive tool. In this paper, we implement the SLAM system using a single camera image and a PSD sensors. It detects obstacles from the front PSD sensor and then perceive size and feature of the obstacles by image processing. The probability SLAM was implemented using the data of sensor and image and we verify the performance of the system by real experiment.
