The purpose of this study was to present an improved method of dose modulation over the increase of build-up for existing 6 MV photon beam. Two neodymium permanent magnets with a strength of 0.5 T (Tesla) were applied with a magnetic field perpendicular to the photon beam. The effects of dose on build-up region with or without the magnetic field were measured according to the magnet-to-magnet distance (MMS) and the magnet-to-surface distance (MSD). For MMS = 6 cm and MSD = 2.5 cm, $D_{0mm}$, $D_{2mm}$, $D_{5mm}$, and $D_{10mm}$ showed improved doses of 6.8 %, 14.6 %, 6.9 %, and 2.1 %, respectively, as compared with 6 MV open beam. In this study, the device with low strength magnetic field can be applied directly to the outside of the human body when the target volume located close to the skin is delivered with radiation. It is expected that the method of build-up modulation using a low strength magnetic field will be feasible in the clinical applications.
As the concern with the creation of environmental problems and regulations about them becomes internationally growing, environmental cooperations with countries concerned are emerging as the first item on the political agenda. In case of South Korea, cooperations with countries in the Asian region is needed urgently. In particular, cooperations with North Korea will be an important factor to reunify the Korean peninsula as well as to solve environmental problems in South Korea. Accordingly, it is necessary to seek feasible alternatives and possibilities of coping with international environment in South and North Korea. This study is limited to literature study based on collecting materials and the testimony of former residents in North Korea. The period of study ranges from May to December in 1992. The research findings show the following environmental problems and alternatives : It is recognized in South Korea that the creation of environmental problems is product of economic development. Currently, the Korean government makes an effort to revise environmental administration and law, to encourage environmental education, and to proceed with environmental technology policies by establishing environmental policies together with economic development plans. North Korea ascribes the cause of environmental problems to colonial exploitation by Japan and the U.S. Environmental pollutants in North Korea is relatively less than South Korea, provisions such as environmental conservation movement, environmental education, and environmental administration and law are not well organized in the country. However, North korea will speed up its economic development to solve economic crises. Therefore, it is expected that industrial wastes, corrosion of nature, and water pollution will result in serious environmental problems. The fields expected to cooperate with South and North Korea are in the following : South Korea may adopt the model of the former East and West Germany and proceed to cooperate with North Korea in public sector as well as private sector. The possible programs are such as academic exchange to conserve environment, joint research in the area of the Demilitarized Zone, conservation of ecosystems around Imjin and Pukhan Rivers, South Korea's support of advanced environmental technology and industrial and financial aid to North Korea. Conflicts between countries concerned in the North East Asian region will be caused by the responsibilities of pollutions because of the seashore development of the Yellow Sea by South Korea and increasing seashore industrial complexes around the Yellow Sea in China, Therefore, it is desirable that the two countries will participate in organizations related to environment. Joint projects between South and North Korea will be as follows : 1. Construction of long-range monitoring system : 2. Investigation of the state of pollutions around the Yellow Sea and alternatives : 3. Construction of joint monitoring system to regulate the movement of pollutants : 4. Cooperation of environmental technology and exchange of information ; and 5. Support of Cooperation of environment in private sector. Efforts to cooperate with North korea is expected to overcome differences between the two countries as well as to encourage unification of the korean peninsula, which will lead to reducing the cost of environmental recovery. These efforts will also contribute to the maintenance for peace and stability on the korean peninsula as well as in the North East Asian region.

This study was conducted to determine the extent to which climate change is expanding areas in which barley can be successfully cultivated. In 2019 and 2020, we collected data on areas that had requested certified seeds from the Korea Seed and Variety Service to determine potential cultivation areas. In addition, we surveyed the growth and yield of different types of barley in fields. Certified seeds of hulled and dehulled barley were requested by farmers across Korea from the Korea Seed and Variety Service in both years. Areas that were provided with certified seeds were considered potential barley cultivation areas. The varieties and use rates of certified seeds varied based on the barley type and region. For example, certified seeds of dehulled barley in 2019 and 2020 were not used in some areas, whereas in others, these seeds constituted 100% of the seeds sown for barley crops. In 2019 and 2020, the average sowing days in Korea were from October 17 to November 9 for dehulled barley, October 26 to November 13 for hulled barley, October 19 to November 5 for malting barley, and October 3 to November 1 for naked oats. Thus, the sowing days of the barley types varied depending on the area and year they were used. For example, in the case of hulled barley in Jeonnam, some farmers sowed until December 12. The yield per 10 a of barley cultivation was typically higher in the main production areas than in the cultivation limit areas. In extreme cases, harvest was impossible in some cultivation limited areas, such as Gangwon-do. Based on the current 20-year January minimum average temperature (JMAT) in Korea (2002-2021), climate change scenarios suggest that barley cultivation is feasible, provided that the minimum temperature in January is no lower than -10℃, -8℃, and -4℃ for hulled barley, dehulled barley, and for malting barley and naked oats, respectively. Additionally, cultivation of barley across South Korea seems feasible based on data on certified barley seeds by area. Although both JMAT and certified seed data suggest that barley cultivation across Korea is feasible, our survey results of barley growth and yield showed that harvest was impossible in certain cultivation areas, such as Gangwon-do. Therefore, climate change scenarios related to the cultivation limits of different barley types need to be re-estimated by factoring in survey data on the growth and yield of crops within those cultivation areas.
The study analyzes likely impacts of left truck lane restriction strategies on urban freeways based on a traffic simulation model. This study contains two main parts. The first part is performed to develop feasible alternatives as well as provide insights into conditions under left truck lane restrictions would be effective based on the analysis of two representative hypothetical highways. Different levels of O-D demands and truck percentage is at least restrictions would work when maximum rate of flow is more than 1,300vphpl or truck percentage is at least over loft of the total traffic. The second part of our study concerns a case study on a region with perhaps the highest truck volumes in the U.S. - a northbound section of Interstate 710 corridor in Los Angeles County, Southern California. The results show that restricting the two leftmost lanes under congested traffic with heavy ruck use, provides the most positive impacts in terms of improving the flow of traffic and saving fuel. In addition, our study demonstrates that in general, the number of lanes restricted is a crucial factor in the success of this strategy.

As an environmental pollution and global warming due to an excessive carbon emission are intensified, the importance of renewable energy is in rise today. TCP (Tidal Current Power), one of the renewable energy sources, generates electricity by converting kinetic energy of current into rotational energy of turbine. Also the TCP has a great advantages of predictability and reliability. Because the generating power is proportional to cubic of stream velocity, amplifying current speed by applying duct is highly effective to increase the generating power. SPM (Single Point Mooring) can be applied for the weather vane with various current direction and also augments generating power of the system. In addition, simple installation and retrieval could be a merit of SPM system. By combining duct and SPM, TCP system for relatively low-speed-current and shallow water region can be feasible and economical. In this study, single point moored duct-type TCP system was designed and the motion of submerged structure was investigated in both numerical and experimental method. DNV wadam V4.8-1 and OrcaFlex 10.0a were used for the frequency and time domain motion analysis of system respectively. Duct model scaled by 0.05 of Froude conformity ratio and CWC (Circulate Water Channel) are used for experiment.
This paper analyzes the fairness and efficiency of channel sharing when heterogeneous wireless networks that have different transmission power and/or coverage coexist with the contention-based channel access protocol. First, we show that the existing CSMA (carrier sensing multiple access) protocol, that is a prevailing contention-based mechanism, results in significant unfairness of channel access because of (1) the asymmetric capability of carrier sensing and (2) the blindness of binary exponential backoff and link adaptation mechanisms to the interference-driven transmission failures. Next, we derive the feasible region of carrier sensing thresholds that assures spatial reuse and fair channel sharing simultaneously. Moreover, we establish an analytical model for per-system throughput and investigate the effect of contention window size and transmission rate on the fairness and efficiency of channel sharing. Finally, we compare the performance of several approaches for fair channel sharing via simulations under various network configurations.

Jeju where concentrates on agriculture and tourism, conversion of outdoor culture into cultivation under structure happens actively for the purpose of increasing profit so continuous examination on house cultivation area is very important for this region. This paper is to suggest the effective image classification method using high resolution satellite image to detect the greenhouse. We carried out classification of greenhouse using the supervised classification and rule-based classification method about Formosat-2 images. Connecting result of two classification try to find accuracy improvement for greenhouse detection. Results about each classification method were calculated the accuracy by comparing with the result of visual detection. As a result, mahalanobis distance among the supervised methods was resulted in the highest detection. Also, it could be checked that detection accuracy was improved by tying with result of supervised method and result of rule-based classification. Therefore, it was expected that effective detection of greenhouse would be feasible if henceforward further study is performed in the process of connecting supervised classification and rule-based classification.
The signal-based acoustic emission (AE) characterization of concrete fracture process utilizing home-programmed AE monitoring system was performed for three kinds of static loading tests (Cubic-splitting, Direct-shear and Pull-out). Each test was carried out to induce a distinct fracture mode of concrete. Apart from monitoring and recording the corresponding fracture process of concrete, various methods were utilized to distinguish the characteristics of detected AE waveform to interpret the information of fracture behavior of AE sources (i.e. micro-cracks of concrete). Further, more signal-based characters of AE in different stages were analyzed and compared in this study. This research focused on the relationship between AE signal characteristics and fracture processes of concrete. Thereafter, the mode of concrete fracture could be represented in terms of AE signal characteristics. By using cement-based piezoelectric composite sensors, the AE signals could be detected and collected with better sensitivity and minimized waveform distortion, which made the characterization of AE during concrete fracture process feasible. The continuous wavelet analysis technique was employed to analyze the wave-front of AE and figure out the frequency region of the P-wave & S-wave. Defined RA (rising amplitude), AF (average frequency) and P-wave & S-wave importance index were also introduced to study the characters of AE from concrete fracture. It was found that the characters of AE signals detected during monitoring could be used as an indication of the cracking behavior of concrete.
As part of city marketing, many local governments are recently developing or have already developed a slogan for their own city brand. This study aims to provide basic source materials for an efficient and more systematic way in current development of the slogan for a city brand. Therefore, this study compared and analyzed the cases for developing the slogan for a city brand in Korea and in other nations, presenting some feasible solutions. As for the characteristics of the slogans for city brands in Korea, they were all campaign-type slogans with a single-component structure that includes the city's name. They mostly used values as their subject material. The basic requirements for producing a successful city-brand slogan include the emphasis on the quality of being unique and differentiated. A city-brand slogan must incorporate the kind of natural environment, the culture, the history, etc that are unique to the region in order to become a creative and unique slogan. Rather than being swayed by short-term trends, a city-brand slogan must have a long term vision and strategy as well as a clear and accurate setup. Also, a city-brand slogan will proliferate and create values as a brand when shared communications with all local residents continue to occur after developing the slogan.

In this paper, We proposed a novel hand-gesture recognition algorithm using concentric-circle expanding and tracing. The proposed algorithm determines region of interest of hand image through preprocessing the original image acquired by web-camera and extracts the feature of hand gesture such as the number of stretched fingers, finger tips and finger bases, angle between the fingers which can be used as intuitive method for of human computer interaction. The proposed algorithm also reduces computational complexity compared with raster scan method through referencing only pixels of concentric-circles. The experimental result shows that the 9 hand gestures can be recognized with an average accuracy of 90.7% and an average algorithm execution time is 78ms. The algorithm is confirmed as a feasible way to a useful input method for virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality and perceptual interfaces of human computer interaction.
