Al-7Si-0.4Mg-1Fe 주조합금의 미세조직과 인장성질에 미치는 Mn, Cr 및 Sr 첨가의 영향 (Effects of Mn, Cr, and Sr Additions on the Microstructure and Tensile Properties of Al-7Si-0.4Mg-1Fe Casting Alloy)

  • The microstructure of Al-7Si-0.4Mg-1Fe alloy mainly consists of aluminum dendrites, Al-Si eutectics, and $Al_5FeSi$ needles. When Mn was added to the alloy, the substantial amount of $Al_5FeSi$ phase was changed into Al(Mn,Fe)Si, however the needle-like morphology was almost unchanged. Combined additions of Cr or Sr with Mn to the base alloy resulted in rod-like Al(Mn, Fe,Si)Si phase. The tensile properties of as-cast alloys were enhanced by the Mn addition, especially when it was added with Sr. The tensile properties after T6 heat treatment was a little improved with 0.7%Mn addition, but Cr or Sr additions with Mn didn't show any positive effect on the properties of heat-treated alloys.

  • An optimum route to fabricate oxide dispersion strengthened ferritic superalloy with desired microstructure was investigated. Two methods of high energy ball milling or polymeric additive solution route for developing a uniform dispersion of $Y_2O_3$ particles in Fe-Cr-Al-Ti alloy powders were compared on the basis of the resulting microstructures. Microstructural observation revealed that the crystalline size of Fe decreased with increases in milling time, to values of about 15-20 nm, and that an FeCr alloy phase was formed. SEM and TEM analyses of the alloy powders fabricated by solution route using yttrium nitrate and polyvinyl alcohol showed that the nano-sized Y-oxide particles were well distributed in the Fe based alloy powders. The prepared powders were sintered at 1000 and $1100^{\circ}C$ for 30 min in vacuum. The sintered specimen with heat treatment before spark plasma sintering at $1100^{\circ}C$ showed a more homogeneous microstructure. In the case of sintering at $1100^{\circ}C$, the alloys exhibited densified microstructure and the formation of large reaction phases due to oxidation of Al.

  • Superalloys which can be devided into three categohes, i.e. Ni-base, Co-base, and Fe-base alloys are widely used for high temperature applications. Since superalloys contain many alloying elements and precipitates, its chemistry and processing parameters need to be carefully designed. In this review, current state-of-the art in the superalloy technologies is described with special attention to the heat-treatment for the control of the microstructures and mechanical properties.

Corrosion of Fe-2%Mn-0.5%Si Steels at 600-800℃ in N2/H2O/H2S Atmospheres

  • Fe-2%Mn-0.5%Si alloys were corroded at 600, 700 and $800^{\circ}C$ for up to 70 h in 1 atm of $N_2$ gas, or 1 atm of $N_2/H_2O$-mixed gases, or 1 atm of $N_2/H_2O/H_2S$-mixed gases. Oxidation prevailed in $N_2$ and $N_2/H_2O$ gases, whereas sulfidation dominated in $N_2/H_2O/H_2S$ gases. The oxidation/sulfidation rates increased in the order of $N_2$ gas, $N_2/H_2O$ gases, and, much more seriously, $N_2/H_2O/H_2S$ gases. The base element of Fe oxidized to $Fe_2O_3$ and $Fe_3O_4$ in $N_2$ and $N_2/H_2O$ gases, whereas it sulfidized to FeS in $N_2/H_2O/H_2S$ gases. The oxides or sulfides of Mn or Si were not detected from the XRD analyses, owing to their small amount or dissolution in FeS. Since FeS was present throughout the whole scale, the alloys were nonprotective in $N_2/H_2O/H_2S$ gases.

철계비정질합금의 고주파 자기특성 연구 (A Study on the Magnetic Properties of Fe-base Amorphous Alloys in High Frequency)

  • The Fe-base amorphous ribbons with 15mm width and about 20x10S0-6Tm thickness, (FeS179-xTCrS1xT)BS116TSiS15T and (FeS181-xTMnS1xT) BS112TSiS17T (x:0-6), were prepared melt spinner. The thickness of the ribbons followed by PFC (Planar Flow Casting). The initial permeability and total core losses were measured as a function of additive elements (Cr, Mn) and annealing conditions in high frequency for the purpose of using these materials as a core of magnetic amplifier and switched mode power supplies. The initial permeabilities were enhanced and core losses were decreased by non-magnetic field annealing in proper conditions. The lowest core loss in 0.2T/10kHz was measured at 3% Cr addition amorphous ribbon, and the loss was 5.6W/kg. The permeability of the ribbon at 10kHz was about 9000.

Corrosion of Selected Materials in Boiling Sulfuric Acid for the Nuclear Power Industries

  • Iodine sulfur (IS) process is one of the promising processes for a hydrogen production by using a high temperature heat generated by a very high temperature gas cooled reactor(VHTR) in the nuclear power industries. Even though the IS process is very efficient for a hydrogen production and it is not accompanied by a carbon dioxide evolution, the highly corrosive environment of the process limits its application in the industry. Corrosion tests of selected materials were performed in sulfuric acid to select appropriate materials compatible with the IS process. The materials used in this work were Fe-Cr alloys, Fe-Ni-Cr alloys, Fe-Si alloys, Ni base alloys, Ta, Ti, Zr, SiC, Fe-Si, etc. The test environments were 50 wt% sulfuric acid at $120^{\circ}C$ and 98 wt% at $320^{\circ}C$. Corrosion rates were measured by using a weight change after an immersion. The surface morphologies and cross sectional areas of the corroded materials were examined by using SEM equipped with EDS. Corrosion behaviors of the materials were discussed in terms of the chemical composition of the materials, a weight loss, the corrosion morphology, the precipitates in the microstructure and the surface layer composition.

  • This study has evaluated the weld metal solidification cracking behavior of several Ni base superalloys (Incoloy 825, Inconel 718 and Inconel 600). Austenitic stainless steels(304, 310S) were also included for comparison. In addition, a possible mechanism of solidification cracking in the fusion zone was suggested based on the extensive microstructural examinations with SEM, EDAX, TEM, SADP and AEM. The solidification cracking resistance of Ni base superalloys was found to be far inferior to that of austenitic stainless steels. The solidification cracking of Incoloy 825 and Inconel 718 was believel to be closely related with the Laves-austenite (Ti rich in 825 and Nb rich in 718) and MC-austenite eutectic phases formed along the grain boundaries during solidification. Cracking in Inconel 600 was always found along the grain boundaries which were enriched with Ti and P. Further, solidifidcation cracking resistance was dependent not only upon the type of love melting phases but also on the amount of the phases along the solidification grain boundaries.

CuZn36 합금의 입자 미세화에 미치는 Zr, B, P 첨가의 영향 (Effects of Zr, B and P Additions the Grain Refinement of CuZn36 Alloys.)

  • It has been known that the grain refinement of Cu base alloys greatly improved mechanical properties, castability, workability and hot shortness resistance etc. In this study CuZr50, CuP7, CuFe7, CuMg10 binary alloys were added as grain refiners in CuZn36 alloy. The alloys melted in vacuum and controlled in mixed gas conditions and casted at $1050^{\circ}C$. Zr-P-X compound has significantly grain refined but oxygen has been found detrimental to grain refinement. In the case of Zr /B ratio below 4, B acted as grain growth element in this alloy.

핵연료 피복관용 Zr신합금의 석출물 특성 (Characterization of Precipitates in New Zr base Alloys for Fuel Cladding)

  • 여러 가지 Zr합금에서 생성되는 석출물의 특성을 규명하기 위하여 시편을 $600^{\circ}C$에서 1시간 동안 열처리 한후 EDX가 부착된 TEM을 이용하여 석출물에 관한 연구를 수행하였다. Zr1.4Sn0.2Fe0.1Cr 합금에서는 두 종류의 석출물이 생성되는데 하나는 석출물의 대부분을 차지하는 HCP 구조으 Zr(Cr, Fe)2 석출물로서 이는 둥근 형태를 유지하며 결정립내나 결정립계에 관계없이 널리 분산되어 분포된다. 다른 하나의 석출물은 극히 일부에서만 관찰되는 Zr2(Fe, Si)성분의 석출물로서 이는 tetragonal 구조를 갖는다. Zr0.5Nb0.6Fe0.3V 합금에서는 tetragonal (Zr, Nb)2(Fe, V) 석출물이 형성되며, Nb이 1.0 wt.% 첨가된 Zr1.0Nb0.6Fe0.3V 합금에서는 HCP 구조의 (Zr, Nb)(Fe, V)2 석출물과 BCC 구조인 $\beta$-Zr이 생성된다. Zr1.0Nb0.6Fe0.3V합금을 제외하고는 대부분의 합금에서 석출물은 약 1.0$\mu\textrm{m}$의 크기를 나타냈다. 합금 조성이 다를 경우에 석출물 크기와 35$0^{\circ}C$ 부식 특성과는 부식 특성과는 연관성이 없는 것로 나타났다.
