Recently, permanent magnet synchronous motor are applied to various applications. Because of the importance of high reliable operation in these areas, many research related to the fault detection and diagnosis of inverter system are conducted. So, a faults model for an inverter-driven permanent magnet synchronous motor is studied by using the fault current of motor according to switch open, which can be effectively used for performance evaluation of the diagnostic algorithm. And fault of the permanent magnet synchronous motor inverter drive system is divided into four types. The feasibility of the proposed method are improved by simulation and experiment.
This paper presents a fault detection and diagnosis methodologies based on weighted symptom model and pattern matching between the coming fault propagation trend and the simulated one. At the first step, backward chaining is used to find the possible cause candidates for the faults. The weighted symptom model(WSM) is used to generate those candidates. The weight is determined from dynamic simulation. Using WSMs, the methodology can generate the cause candidates and rank them according to the probability. Secondly, the fault propagation trends identified from the partial or complete sequence of measurements are compared to the standard fault propagation trends stored a priori. A pattern matching algorithm based on a number of triangular episodes is used to effectively match those trends. The standard trends have been generated using dynamic simulation and stored a priori. The proposed methodology has been illustrated using two case studies and showed satisfactory diagnostic resolution.
The motor current signature provides an important source of the information for the faults diagnosis of three-phase induction motor. The theoretical principles behind the generation of unique signal characteristics, which are indicative of failure mechanisms, are Presented. The fault detection techniques that can be used to diagnose mechanical Problems, stator and rotor winding failure mechanisms, and air-gap eccentricity are described. A theoretical analysis is presented which predicts the presence of unique signature patterns in the current that are only characteristics of the fault. The predictions are verified by experimental results from a special fault Producing test rig and on-site tests in a steel company. And this study have made new diagnostic algorithm for the operating induction motors with the test results. These developments are including the use of monitoring and analysis of electric current to diagnose mechanical and electrical problems and gave the precise test results automatically.
This paper deals with a fault diagnosis algorithm for open faults in the switching devices of PWM inverter-fed IPMSM (Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) drive. The proposed diagnostic algorithm is realized in the controller using the informations of three-phase currents or reference line-to-line voltages, without requiring additional equipments for fault detection. Under switch open fault conditions, the conventional dq model used to control an AC motor cannot directly be applied for the analysis of drive system, since three-phase balanced condition does not hold. To overcome this limitation, a fault model based on the line-to-line voltages is employed for the simulation studies. For comparative performance evaluation through the experiments, the entire control system is implemented using digital signal processor (DSP) TMS320F28335. Simulations and experimental results are presented to verify the validity of the proposed diagnosis algorithm.
In this paper, a fault diagnosis method is proposed for self-diagnostics of PLC(Programmable Logic Controller), process controller in industrial fields, and diagnosis of its external devices such as sensors and actuators. The aim of this research is proposition of systematic method of fault diagnosis of PLC control system and development of its equipment. A PLC fault diagnosis algorithm consists of self-diagnostics given by PLC makers, Inpuot/Output tracking method by analyzing sequence PLC programs, searching method of past fault cases in database using an expert system, and diagnosis of PLC units such as CPU, DI, and DO board. Finally usability of PLC fault diagnostic system is verified by testing a MELSEC PLC.
A new diagnastic method for detection and location of faults in a linear time-invariant system is proposed. The fault detection algorithm is formulated in a signal space, while the fault location algorithm with estimation is done in a parameter space. In a way different from the conventional approach, the method of fault location with estimation is studied to apply the new concept to establish the models with an unknown parameter under the assumption of 1-fold fault. According to computer simulation, the proposed diagnostic method is effective as an algorithm for fault diagnosis of industdrial process controllers.

Downtime and malfunction of industrial rotor machines represents a crucial cost burden and productivity loss. Fault diagnosis of this equipment has recently been carried out to detect their fault(s) and cause(s) by using fault classification methods. However, these methods are of limited use in detecting rotor faults because of their hypersensitivity to unexpected and different equipment conditions individually. These limitations tend to affect the accuracy of fault classification since fault-related features calculated from vibration signal are moved to other regions or changed. To improve the limited diagnosis accuracy of existing methods, we propose a new approach for fault diagnosis of rotor machines based on the model generated by supervised learning. Our work is based on feature residual values from vibration signals as fault indices. Our diagnostic model is a robust and flexible process that, once learned from historical data only one time, allows it to apply to different target systems without optimization of algorithms. The performance of the proposed method was evaluated by comparing its results with conventional methods for fault diagnosis of rotor machines. The experimental results show that the proposed method can be used to achieve better fault diagnosis, even when applied to systems with different normal-state signals, scales, and structures, without tuning or the use of a complementary algorithm. The effectiveness of the method was assessed by simulation using various rotor machine models.
Induction motors are a critical component of many industrial processes and are frequently integrated in commercially available equipment. Safety, reliability, efficiency, and performance are some of the major concerns of induction motor applications. Preventive maintenance of induction motors has been a topic great interest to industry because of their wide range application of industry. Since the use of mechanical sensors, such as vibration probes, strain gauges, and accelerometers is often impractical, the motor current signature analysis (MACA) techniques have gained murk popularity as diagnostic tool. Fault tolerant control (FTC) strives to make the system stable and retain acceptable performance under the system faults. All present FTC method can be classified into two groups. The first group is based on fault detection and diagnostics (FDD). The second group is independent of FDD and includes methods such as integrity control, reliable stabilization and simultaneous stabilization. This paper presents the fundamental FDD-based FTC methods, which are capable of on-line detection and diagnose of the induction motors. Therefore, our group has developed the embedded distributed fault tolerant and fault diagnosis system for industrial motor. This paper presents its architecture. These mechanisms are based on two 32-bit DSPs and each TMS320F2407 DSP module is checking stator current, voltage, temperatures, vibration and speed of the motor. The DSPs share information from each sensor or DSP through DPRAM with hardware implemented semaphore. And it communicates the motor status through field bus (CAN, RS485). From the designed system, we get primitive sensors data for the case of normal condition and two abnormal conditions of 3 phase induction motor control system is implemented. This paper is the first step to drive multi-motors with serial communication which can satisfy the real time operation using CAN protocol.
Fault diagnosis technique of electrical drives is becoming more and more important, since voltage fed converter system has become industrial standard in many applications. Many studies have been conducted an inverter fault diagnosis for induction motors. However, there are few researches about fault diagnosis of 3-phase ac/dc PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) converter compared to the dc/ ac inverter. The ac/dc converter is the opposite of dc/ac inverter at current flow. Also, inverter and converter have different current patterns under the same condition of IGBT (Insulated gate bipolar transistor) open switch fault. Therefore, it is difficult to apply intact diagnosis methods of inverter to the converter. This paper proposes modified fault detection methods for IGBT open switch fault in 3-phase ac/dc PWM converter by modifying established fault diagnostic methods for dc/ac inverters.
Driving safety of a vehicle is largely influenced by the damper and the tire. Developed in this research is a fault diagnosis algorithm for the two components so that the driver can be promptly informed when fault occurs in one or both of them. To this end, the damper and the tire were modeled using the neural network from their experimental data, and fault diagnosis was made using frequency responses of the damping force and the dynamic wheel force. The algorithm was tested via experiments, and it demonstrated successful diagnostic performance under various driving conditions.
