  • This paper describes the design and implementation of the fault diagnosis on the Electronic Throttle Control(ETC) System. The proposed fault diagnosis consists of an input signal, actuator and a processor diagnosis. The input signal diagnosis can detect the faults of the ETC system's input signals such as the position sensor fault, source voltage fault, load current fault, and desired position fault. The actuator diagnosis is able to detect the actuator fault due to the actuator aging and an obstacle which interfere in the movement of the actuator. The processor diagnosis detects the fault which prevents the microprocessor from operating the ETC software. In order to protect the breakdown of the ETC system and assure the driving safety, appropriate reactions are also proposed according to the detected faults. The safety and reliability of the ETC system can be improved by the proposed fault diagnosis.

  • This paper presents a robust fault diagnosis and fault tolerant control lot the actuator and sensor faults in the closed-loop systems affected by unknown inputs or disturbances. The fault diagnostic scheme is based on the residual set generation by using robust Parity space approach. Residual set is evaluated through the threshold test and then fault is isolated according to the decision logic table. Once the fault diagnosis module indicates which actuator or sensor is faulty, the fault magnitude is estimated by using the disturbance-decoupled optimal state estimation and a new additive control law is added to the nominal one to override the fault effect on the system. Simulation results show that the method has definite fault diagnosis and fault tolerant control ability against actuator and sensor faults.

  • This paper describes a fault detection and fault handling algorithm to be used in a longitudinal vehicle cruise control systems. The fault diagnosis system consists of two structures to generate proper residuals and to find that which component has a fault. A systematic design of the fault diagnosis system using model-based techniques is presented. A linear observer is used to create a set of signals sensitive to faults in a radar sensor. The fault handling system consists of two structures to compensate for faults and degraded system performance. Simulation results show that the algorithm is effective for a fault diagnosis and handling in a longitudinal vehicle cruise control system.

  • We developed fault diagnosis fuzzy expert system for ACS(Advanced Control System). ACS is a DCS(Distributed Control System) with advanced control algorithm fault tolerance capabilities, fault diagnosis functions, and so on. Fuzzy expert system developed for an ACS in this paper gives an operator alarm signal depending on the state of process value and manipulated value, and the cause of alarm in real time. • This paper describes diagnosis strategy of the Flexible Multiple Fault Diagnosis Module for forecasting faults in system and deciding current machine state form sensor information. Most studydeal with diagnosis control stategy about single fault in a system, this studies deal with multiple fault diagnosis. This strategy is consist of diagnosis control module such as backward tracking expert system shell, various neural network, numerical model to predict machine state and communication module for information exchange and cooperate between each model. This models are used to describe structure, function and behavior of subsystem, complex component and total system. Hierarchical structure is very efficient to represent structural, functional and behavioral knowledge. FT(Fault Tree). ST(Symptom Tree), FCD(Fault Consequence Diagrapy), SGM(State Graph Model) and FFM(Functional Flow Model) are used to represent hierachical structure. In this study, IA(Intelligent Agent) concept is introduced to match FT component and event symbol in diagnosed system and to transfer message between each event process. Proposed diagnosis control module is made of IPC(Inter Process Communication) method under UNIX operating system.

  • In this paper, a design method of a fault diagnosis filter for a system with multiplicative faults which cause to change its parameters is developed. Linear time-invariant systems are dealt with in discrete-time domain. The residual which is sensitive to a damage of control surface of an aircraft by parity space approach is defined. Next, the fault is isolated by a new decision logic. Control reconfiguration is achieved by the result of fault diagnosis. Finally, the feasibility of the method is illustrated with a simulation study of a fault diagnosis system for a damaged control surface of an aircraft.

  • This paper describes the control philosophy of ESP(Electronic Stability Program) which consists of the stability control the fault diagnosis and the fault tolerant control. Besides the functional performance of the stability control, robustness of control and fault diagnosis is focused to avoid the unnecessary activation of the controller. The look-up tables are mentioned to have the accurate target yaw rate of the vehicle and obtained from vehicle tests for the whole operation range of the steering wheel angle and the vehicle speed. The wheel slip control with a design goal of wheel slip invariance is implemented for the yaw compensation and the target wheel slip is determined by difference between the target yaw rate and actual yaw rate. Since the ESP has a high severity level and the robust control is required, the robustness margin for the stability control is determined according to several uncertainties and the robust fault diagnosis is performed. Both computer simulation and test results are shown in this paper.

  • This paper presents a robust fault diagnosis and fault tolerant control method for the control systems in closed-loop affected by unknown inputs or disturbances. The fault diagnostic scheme is based on the disturbance-decoupled state estimation using a 2-stage state observer for state, actuator bias and sensor bias. The estimated bias show the occurrence time, location and type of the faults directly. The estimated state is used for state feedback to achieve fault tolerant control against the faults. Simulation results show that the method has definite fault tolerant ability against actuator and sensor faults, moreover, the faults can be detected on-line, isolated and estimated simultaneously.

  • In this paper an ANFIS(Adativo Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System)- based fault detection and diagnosis for a closed loop control system is proposed. The proposed diagnostic system contains two ANFIS. One is run as a parallel model within the model in closed loop control(MCL) and the other is run as a series-parallel model within the process in closed loop(PCL) for the generation of relevant symptoms for fault diagnosis. These symptoms are further processed by another classification logic with simple rules and neural network for process and controller fault diagnosis. Experimental results for a DC shunt motor control system illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed diagnostic scheme.
