This study investigates structural durability through the analyses of stress, fatigue life and vibration damage at bike carrier basket. As model 2 has less stress and deformation than model 1 on static structural analysis, model 2 becomes more durable than model 1. Among the cases of nonuniform fatigue loads, 'SAE bracket history' with the severest change of load becomes most unstable but 'Sample history' becomes most stable. The amplitude deformations become highest at maximum response frequency of 2400Hz in cases of models 1 and 2. As the values of maximum equivalent stresses become within the allowable material stresses at two holes at the upper parts on models 1 and 2, these models become safe. The structural result of this study can be effectively utilized with the design of bike carrier basket by investigating prevention and durability against fatigue or vibration damage.
This study investigates life and damage due to structural and fatigue load at speaker placer with wall hanger type. As the small stress and deformation are shown at the models of A, B and C shapes on structural analysis, there is no problem at installing speaker placer. As the largest stress is happened at the middle part of joint on the models of A, B and C shapes, this part must be considered at the design. A shape is thought to have most fatigue damage among 3 shape models. C shape model has most excellent, but A model has least at fatigue durability. This study result is applied with the design of speaker placer and it can be useful at predicting prevention and durability against its damage.
The exhaust system of automobile is faced with random or spectrum types of fatigue loads during usage life and so needs to be closely estimated for quality and performance to have enough certainty on design endurance lift during preliminary design process. Structural operation conditions, operation load history, property of material and manufacturing process etc. should be considered by performing experiment approach. Using the software program for predicting fatigue life quickly and exactly in preliminary design stage saves plenty of time and cost generated by fatigue tests. In this paper, fatigue life prediction was performed on the basis of fatigue analysis using MSC/FATIGUE and load data from field test and the life of development items was estimated and compared through the results.
In design stage of vehicles, the application of virtual durability analysis techniques enables us to cut down the necessary time and cost to carry out various physical experiments. In this study, computer simulations of vehicle suspensions were carried out with DADS program including component flexibility, and the durability analysis of vehicle components was executed with MSC/Fatigue program using the load history obtained from vehicle dynamic simulation. Driving test of a vehicle was also carried out to obtain precise input data for the durability analysis, and the results of virtual durability analysis were compared to those of experiments.
The automotive chassis components are structural assemblies that support the engine, suspension, and steering components of the vehicle. For the development of AHSS components, the durability analysis is important. In this paper, the low cycle fatigue property of AHSS was evaluated for the geometry complex and local plasticity in the base material. The GMAW optimization was implemented for the weld soundness using the moving least square method. And the weld S-N curves of AHSS were evaluated to access durability analysis for the weld region. For the verification, the durability analysis of the couple torsion beam axle (CTBA) was performed and compared to the rig test result. The durability analysis using the low cycle fatigue property and the evaluated weld S-N curve of AHSS met the good agreement with the test result.
This study proposes a structural design method for the upper control arm installed at the rear side of a SUV. The weight of control arm can be reduced by applying the design. In this research, the former includes optimization technology, and the latter the technologies for selecting aluminum as a steel-substitute material. Strength assessment is the most important design criterion in the structural design of a control arm. At the proto design stage of a new control arm, FE (finite element) analysis is often utilized to predict its strength. In this study, the kriging interpolation method is adopted to obtain the minimum weight satisfying the strength constraint and durability criteria. The optimum results determined from the in-house program are compared with those of ANSYS WORKBENCH. The durability assessment is obtained by a index of fatigue durability and trial & error method, MSC. Fatigue program.
A practical method for reducing the number of spot welds in automotive structures considering fatigue crack initiation life is suggested. At first, an influence index for the durability and the fatigue life of a spot weld itself is defined and then taken as the main effect of the DOE analysis. Spot welds that can be removed without serious reduction of durability through numerical experiments are selected by the results of DOE. The proposed method was applied to the shock tower and LCA(lower control arm) structure of a vehicle, which are important components in durability-related point of view.
This study investigates the structural analysis result with vibration and fatigue on 3 kinds of bicycle saddle models. When the static load applies on the upper plane of model, maximum stress becomes within the allowable stress in case of model 1. As the value of Stress or deformation becomes lower on the order of model types 1, 2 and 3, these models become more stabilized or safer at durability in this order. On the vibration analysis, model type 1 has the maximum stress or deformation more than 5 times by comparing with model type 1 or 2. Model type 1 becomes most excellent on vibration durability. As maximum displacement due to vibration happens in case of model type 3, it becomes unstabilized. But the stresses of model types 1, 2 and 3 become within the allowable stress and these models are considered to be safe. At the status of the severest fatigue load, model type 3 becomes safer than model type 1 or 2. This study result is applied with the design of safe bicycle saddle and it can be useful to improve the durability by predicting prevention against the deformation due to its vibration and fatigue.
We evaluate the durability of vehicle chassis component under dynamic loadings. Since the fatigue analysis of vehicle component is based on the dynamic load history it must be done by dynamic analysis. But in case the vehicle component has natural frequencies much larger than reversing frequencies of load history, we can get small analysis errors by applying quasi-static analysis. So it is inefficient that we apply to the dynamic analysis for all the vehicle components. In this research, we discuss the quasi-static analysis method which is appropriate for the fatigue analysis. And in case we can only perform the fatigue analysis based on dynamic analysis, we introduce more efficient method in the analysis time and hard disk storage.
Fatigue fracture of engine connecting-rod bolts is encountered frequently during the developement of high-speed engines. Only the engine dyno test is a currently reliable fatigue durability assessment method. It is because the available rig tests cannot mimic the engine running condition completely, and because the finite element analysis cannot provide realistic stresses near the bolt thread that is modeled as a cylinder. This paper introduces a methodology to assess the fatigue durability of the connecting-rod bolts using the finite element analysis. The methods to contruct the bolt model, to extract the critical bolt stresses for the fatigue analysis, and to obtain the bolt fatigue endurance limit experimentally are discussed. Reliability of the method is verified indirectly.
