자동차구조용 $SiC_p/Al-Si$복합재의 피로균열 진전특성에 대한 연구 (Fatigue Crack Growth Characteristics of $SiC_p/Al-Si$ Alloy Composites for Automotive Structures)

  • In order to investigate the behavior of fatigue crack growth of SiC-particulate- reinforced Al-Si alloy composites, fatigue tests using single edge notched tension(SENT) specimens were performed. Composite materials were manufactured by using both permanent die casting and extrusion processes with different volume fractions of $10\%\;and\;20\%$. $SiC_p-reinfurced$ Al-Si composites showed the increased levels of threshold stress intensity factor range, ${\Delta}K_{th}$, for the increased volume fractions of SiC particles, which implies the increased fatigue crack growth resistance at the threshold or low ${\Delta}K$ levels, compared to the unreinforced Al-Si alloy. In the Paris region, however, the composites showed the increased rate of crack growth resulting in the unfavorable effects on the fatigue crack growth resistance. Critical stress intensity factor range at unstable crack growth leading to final fracture decreased as the volume fraction of SiC particle increased, because of the reduced fracture toughness of the composites. Extruded materials showed higher threshold and critical values than the cast materials.

  • 본 연구에서는 정적파괴는 피로균열 진전의 최종과정에서 생기는 경우가 많다. 따라서 정적파괴의 경우의 파괴평가선도 및 피로파괴의 경우의 파괴평가선도가 얻어지 면 실제의 사용에 대해서 대단히 유용하다. 이와같은 관점에서 피로파괴에 대한 파 괴평가선도와 데이터베이스(data base)의 구축을 검토해 보고자 한다.

  • The development of new materials with light weight and high strength has become vital to the machinery, aircraft and auto industries. However, there are a lot of problems with developing such materials that require expensive tools, and a great deal of time and effort. Therefore, the improvement of fatigue strength and fatigue life are mainly focused on adopting residual stress(in this thesis). The compressive residual stress was imposed on the surface according to each shot velocity(57, 70, 83, 96 m/sec) based on Shot-peening, which is the method of improving fatigue life and strength. By using the methods mentioned above, the following conclusions have been drawn. 1. The fatigue crack growth rate(da/dN) of the Shot-peened material was lower than that of the Un-peened material. And in stage I, ΔKth, the threshold stress intensity factor, of the shot-peen processed material is high in critical parts unlike the Un-peened material. Also m, fatigue crack growth exponent and number of cycle of the Shot-peened material was higher than that of the Un-peened material. That is concluded from effect of da/dN. 2. Fatigue life shows more improvement in the Shot-peened material than in the Un-peened material. And compressive residual stress of surface on the Shot-peen processed operate resistance force of fatigue crack propagation.

  • 본 연구에서는 CT시험편을 이용하여 소규모 항복조건하에서 하한계(near threshold)영역과 안전균열성장(제II)영역의 균열진전거동을 파악하고 피로균열 진전속도와 음향방출거동, 파단면 특성을 각각 비교, 고찰하여 각 파라미터간의 상관 관계 및 유용성을 검토하고자 한다.

압력용기용 강의 저온 피로크랙전파 하한계 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Fatigue Crack Propagation Threshold Characteristic in Steel of Pressure Vessel at Low Temperature)

  • In this study. CT specimens were prepared from ASME SA5l6 which was used for pressure vessel plates for room and low temperature service. And we got the following characteristics from fatigue crack growth test carried out in the environment of room and low temperature at $25^{\circ}C$, -3$0^{\circ}C$, -6$0^{\circ}C$, -8$0^{\circ}C$, -10$0^{\circ}C$ and -12$0^{\circ}C$ in the range of stress ratio of 0.1 by means of opening mode displacement. At the constant stress ratio, the threshold stress intensity factor range ΔKsub/th/ in the early stage of fatigue crack growth ( Region I) and stress intensity factor range ΔK in the stable of fatigue crack growth ( Region II) was increased in proportion to descend temperature. It assumed that the fatigue resistance characteristics and fracture strength at low temperature is considerable higher than that of room temperature in the early stage and stable of fatigue crack growth region. The straight line slope relation of logarithm da.dN -ΔK in RegionII, that is, the fatigue crack growth exponent m increased with descending temperature at the constant stress ratio. It assumed that the fatigue crack growth rate da/dN is rapid in proportion to descend temperature in Region II and the cryogenic-brittleness greatly affect a material with decreasing temperature.

  • Rencentely, the request for the light weight is more incresed in the area of industrial environment and machinery and consistent effort is needed to accomplish high strength of material for the direction of light weight. we got the following characteristic from crack growth test carried out in the range of stress ration of 0.1, 0.3 and 0.6 by means of opening mode displacement. At the content stress ratio, the threshold stress intensity factor crack range ${\Delta}K_{th}$in the early stage of fatigue crack growth (Region I) and dtress intensity factor range ${\Delta}K$ in the stable of fatigue crack growth (Region II) with an increase in ${\Delta}K$. Fatigue life shows more improvement in the Shot-peened material than in the Un-peening material. And compressive residual stress of surface on the Shot peening processed operate resistance force of fatigue. So we can obtain fallowings. (1) The fatigue crack growth rate on stage II is conspicuous with the size of compressive residual stress and is depend on Paris equation. (2) Although the maxium compressive residual stress is deeply and widely formed from surface, fatigue life does not improve than when maxium compressive residual stress is formed in surface. (3) The threshold stress intensity factor range is increased with increasing compressive residual stress.

And we got the following characteristics from fatigue crack growth test carried out in the environment of room and low temperature at 25$^{\circ}C $, -60$^{\circ}C $, -80$^{\circ}C $ and -100$^{\circ}C $ and in the range of stress ratio of 0.05, 0.3 by means of opening mode displacement. At the constant stress ratio, the threshold stress intensity factor range ${\delta} K_{th}$ in the early stage of fatigue crack growth (Region I) and stress intensity factor range $\delta $K in the stable of fatigue crack growth (Region II) were increased in proportion to descending temperature. It was assumed that the fatigue resistance characteristics and fracture strength at low temperature is considerable higher than that of room temperature in the early stage and stable of fatigue crack growth region. The straight line slope relation of logarithm da/dN -$\delta $K in Region II, that is, the fatigue crack growth exponent m increased with descending temperature at the constant stress ratio. It was assumed that the fatigue crack growth rate da/dN is rapid in proportion to descending temperature in Region II and the cryogenic-brittleness greatly affect a material with decreasing temperature.

SA516/70강의 저온피로크랙 전파 하한계특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Fatigue Crack Propagation Threshold Characteristics in SA516/70 Steel at Low Temperature)

  • Fatigue crack propagation rate and threshold characteristics of the SA516/70 steel which is used for the low temperature pressure vessels, were studied in the room temperature of $25^{\circ}C$ and low temperature ranges of $-10^{\circ}C,\;-30^{\circ}C,\;-60^{\circ}C\;and\;-80^{\circ}C$ with stress ratio of R=0.1. In the logarithmic relationship between the fatigue crack propagation rate($d{\alpha}/dN$) and stress intensity factor range ${\Delta}K$, the linear relationship was obtained up to $d{\alpha}/dN=4.425{\times}10^4mm/cycle$ in the same of room temperature, but in low temperature case, the relationship was extended to the range of low crack propagation rate. The fractured specimens were examined by SEM. Tested results showed that specimen failed at low temperature exhibit the quasi-cleavage fracture formation however considerable ductility proceed final fracture.

  • 본 연구의 주목적은 아스팔트 혼합물의 피로균열에 대한 예측모델을 개발하는 것이다. 아스팔트 혼합물의 피로균열 시험을 위하여 응력제어 간접인장피로 시험이 수행되었다. 피로균열에 대한 예측모델 개발을 위하여 내적손상비 증가 개념이 도입되었다. 내적손상비증가 개념에서는 방출에너지 개념을 주로 사용하였으며 기준인장변형율 및 변형율 추이 요소 등이 추가로 사용되었다. 피로시험에서 나타난 방출에너지의 원인은 아스팔트 콘크리트 시료 내부의 손상증가와 재료 자체가 갖고 있는 고유의 점탄성 특성에 기인하는 것으로 판단된다. 방출에너지는 하중재하 횟수가 증가함에 따라 점차 증가함을 보였다.
