  • A far field approximate solution of the slowly varying force on a 3 dimensional offshore structure in gravity ocean waves is presented. The first order potential, or at least the far field form of the Kochin function, of each frequency wave is assumed to be known. The momentum flux of the fluid domain is formulated to find the time variant force acting on the floating body in bichromatic waves. The second order difference frequency force is identified and extracted from the time variant force. The final solution is expressed as the circular integration of the product of Kochin functions. The limiting form of the slowly varying force is identical to the mean drift force. It shows that the slowly varying force components caused by the body disturbance potential can be evaluated at the far field.

  • A far field solution of the slowly varying force on an offshore structure by gravity ocean waves was shown as a function of the reflection and transmission of the body disturbed waves. The solution was obtained from the conservation of the momentum flux, which simply describes various wave forces, while making it unnecessary to compute complicated integration over a control surface. The solution was based on the assumption that the frequency difference of the bichromatic incident waves is small and its second order term is negligible. The final solution is expressed in term of the reflection and transmission waves, i.e. their amplitudes and phase angles. Consequently, it shows that not only the amplitudes but also the phase differences make critical contributions to the slowly varying force. In a limiting case, the slowly varying force solution gives the one of the mean drift force, which is only dependent on the reflection wave amplitude. An approximation is also suggested in a case where only the mean drift force information is available.

  • In this study, a numerical method is developed for nonlinear analysis for soil-pile-structure interaction system in time domain. Finite elements considering material nonlinearity are used for the near field and boundary elements for the far field. In the near field, frame elements are used for modeling a pile and plane-strain elements for surrounding soil and superstructure. In. the far field, boundary element formulation using the dynamic fundamental solution is adopted and coupled with the near field. Transformation of stiffness matrices of boundary elements into time domain is performed by inverse FFT. Stiffness matrices in the near field and far field are coupled. Newmark direct time integration method is applied. Developed soil-pile-structure interaction analysis method is verified with available literature and commercial code. Also, parametric studies by developed numerical method are performed. And seismic response analysis is performed using actual earthquake records.

  • In this study a numerical method for soil-pile interaction analysis buried in multi-layered half planes is presented in frequency domain using FE-BE coupling. The total soil-pile interaction system is divided into two parts so called far field and near field beam elements are used for modeling a pile and coupled with plain strain elements for soil modeling. Boundary element formulation using the multi-layered dynamic fundamental solution is adopted to the far field and coupled with near field modeled by finite elements. In order to verify the proposed soil-pile interaction analysis method the dynamic responses of a pile on multi-layered dynamic fundamental solution is adopted to the far field and coupled with near field modeled by finite elements. In order to verify the proposed soil-pile interaction analysis method the dynamic responses of a pile on multi-layered half-planes are performed and compared with experiment results. Through this developed method the dynamic response analysis of a pile buried in multi-layered half planes can be calculated effectively in frequency domain.

  • The site effects of local geological conditions on seismic ground motion are performed using 2D numerical method. For the analysis, a numerical method far ground response analysis using FE-BE coupling method is developed. The total system is divided into two parts so called far field and near field. The far field is modeled by boundary element formulation using the multi-layered dynamic fundamental solution that satisfied radiational condition of wave. And this is coupled with near field modeled by finite elements. In order to verify the seismic response analysis, the results are compared with those of commercial code. As a result, it is shown that the developed method can be an efficient numerical method to solve the seismic response analysis of the site effect in 2D problem.

  • Based on correlation and least square method, a closed-form algorithm for estimating the location of mixed far-field and near-field source is presented using the Uniform Circular Array (UCA). Recently, for a homogeneous circular arrangement case, a correlation based closed-form algorithm is proposed to estimate 2-D angle (azimuth, elevation) and the extended algorithm is proposed to 3-D location (azimuth, elevation, range). These algorithms assume the far-field source or near-field source only. Therefore, for mixed source localization, the proposed algorithm estimates source location with the assumption of far-field source, and then estimates the range to distinguish the far-field from the near-field source. For both cases, numerical experiments have been performed, which confirmed the validity of the proposed algorithm.

  • A higher order panel method based on B-spline representation for both the geometry and the solution is developed for the analysis of steady flow around marine propellers. The self-influence functions due to the normal dipole and the source are desingularized through the quadratic transformation, and then shown to be evaluated using conventional numerical quadrature. By selecting a proper order for numerical quadrature, the accuracy of the present method can be increased to the machine limit. The far- and near-field influences are shown to be evaluated based on the same far-field approximation, but the near-field solution requires subdividing the panels into smaller subpanels continuously, which can be effectively implemented due to the B-spline representation of the geometry. A null pressure jump Kutta condition at the trailing edge is found to be effective in stabilizing the solution process and in predicting the correct solution. Numerical experiments indicate that the present method is robust and predicts the pressure distribution on the blade surface, including very close to the tip and trailing edge regions, with far fewer panels than existing low order panel methods.

  • The major purpose of this study is to determine the dynamic behavior of soil-pile-structure interaction system considering the underground cavity. For the analysis, a numerical method fur ground response analysis using FE-BE coupling method is developed. The total system is divided into two parts so called far field and near field. The far field is modeled by boundary element formulation using the multi-layered dynamic fundamental solution that satisfied radiational condition of wave. And this is coupled with near field modeled by finite elements. For the verification of dynamic analysis in the frequency domain, both forced vibration analysis and free-field response analysis are performed. The behavior of soil non-linearity is considered using the equivalent linear approximation method. As a result, it is shown that the developed method can be an efficient numerical method to solve the seismic response analysis considering the underground cavity in 2D problem.

  • This paper deals with the near-field to far-field calculation for far-field characteristics of antenna and electromagnetic compatibility(EMC) testing. Since the conventional EMC testing process is inefficient such as measurements of the wide band signals and mega structures, Stratton-Chu formula is used to predict the far-field emission by simple and direct process. The usefulness of Stratton-Chu formula is verified by comparing to the analytic solution of the uniform distribution aperture in free-space. In order to inspect the far-fields and to get the near-field values, full-wave simulation solver is utilized. Through the full-wave simulation about the patch antenna, calculated far-field results from Stratton-Chu formula are proven. The predicted magnitudes of the far-field are in error by less than 6 %.

  • The interest in textile which has far-infrared ray emissive property has been increased in the field of biophysics and medicine. In this study, far-infrared ray emissive polyurethane nano-web was obtained using electrospinning of polyurethane(PU) solution mixed with ceramics powder and far-infrared ray emissive properties of nano-web were evaluated by measuring far-infrared ray emission power and emissivity(%). To investigate the influence of concentration of ceramics powder in PU solution and temperature for far-infrared ray emissive properties, far-infrared ray emissivity was measured at varied temperature using various nano-web including varied concentration of ceramics powder. Polyurethane nano-web was characterized by SEM to observe the deposition of ceramics powder on polyurethane nano-web surface. The far-infrared ray emissivity was increased with the concentration of ceramics powder in the nano-web. The far-infrared ray emission power was enhanced with increasing temperature of the samples; however, far-infrared ray emissivity was decreased with increasing temperature because the increase of emission power of ceramic containing nano-web was lower than the emission power of black body one.
