Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify and describe health care providers' perceptions of family-centered care in pediatrics. Methods: A qualitative descriptive study was designed. Data were collected from individual interviews using open-ended questions. Fifty-six pediatric health care providers participated in the study from January to April 2015. Data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis to identify the major perceptions of pediatric health care providers. Results: The providers perceived that the concept of family-centered care has been incompletely implemented. Five themes (respecting a child's family, taking care of a child with the child's family, sharing information about children, supporting a child's family, a child's family participating in child care) with 11 sub-themes were identified in the providers' experiences with families. To achieve the goal of family-centered care in pediatrics, medical and nursing conditions must be improved, education about family-centered care must be provided, and improvements should be made in the mindset of health care providers regarding patients and in families' willingness to participate in care. Conclusion: The findings from this study provide insight into pediatric health care providers' perceptions of family-centered care. It will contribute to the establishment of a foundation for implementing family-centered care in pediatric nursing.
The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between the burden of family with the mentally ill and professional needs. Data collection period was from June 29, 1998 to July 30, 1998. The subjects for the study was 134 family members of psychiatric in-patients and out-patients in Taejon and Chungnam. The questionnaire developed by OK-KYUNG YANG to measure the family burden and professional needs was used for this study. The tools used for this study were composed of General characteristics(30 items), family burden(43 items), professional needs(26 items). The data was analyzed by using on SPSSWIN program and included percentage, mean, S.D., t-test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficient. The results of the analysis were as follows; The mean score of family burden was 134.26, which is higer than the mean score of the instrument. The mean score of professional need, the family caregiver who supporting of mentally ill patients, was .48 which is lower than the mean score of the instrument. Family burden was statistically correlated with professional needs(${\gamma}$=.6139, P<.001). There were statistically differences in family burden for respondent's relation, location of living, most care money giver, substant care money giver. There were statistically significant difference in professional need for family age, marriage status, substant care money giver, information status. The conclusion that can be drawn from this study is that addressing professional needs would contribute to reduce burden of the family caregivers with mentally ill. Therefore, Nursing interventions are needed to reduce family burden.
The purpose of this study was to generate a grounded theory of how families with kidney donor or recipient coped with kidney transplantations. Interview data from twelve families involved in kidney transplants was analyzed using the grounded theory method. Data analysis revealed that “protecting the family” was the main theme that represented family member experiences. In order to maintain family function and to protect the family from breaking up, family members had to adjust the family structure from the traditional style of a husband-centered family, to one that was patient health -centered. The process of this adjustment was a very long and difficult one, taking several years from the recognition of the kidney disease to the kidney transplants. Family members, especially spouses, employed nine different strategies to deal with various problems and conflicts which occurred during the process : 1) paying attention to the patient's illness and complications ; 2) accepting the patient's illness as the family's illness as well ; 3) managing the patient's illness and complications that occured ; 4) being thrifty ; 5)supporting the kidney donor ; 6) accepting and replacing the lost roles of the patient ; 7) keeping composure and encouraging the patient ; 8) sustaining the patient's independence ; 9) self-restraining sexual desires. These findings suggest that there is a developmental process where family members adjust to a kidney transplant over time. There is also a need for increased social and psychological health services for all family members over the course of kidney transplants.
The purpose of this study was to examine the differences of mothers' parenting stress, parenting behaviors, and their children's social competence by their children's emotionality and their husband's support on parenting. The participants of this study were 72 three and four-year-old children and their mothers. The results of this study were as follows. The mothers with high-emotionality children reported higher parenting stress than ones with low-emotionality children. The mothers reported low-supporting by their husbands perceived higher parenting stress and used less warmth-encouragement than mothers reported high-supporting. The setting limit behaviors in parenting was significant different by their children's emotionality and their husbands' support on parenting. That is, only in the group of high-emotionality children, the mothers with high-supporting by their husbands used more setting limit behaviors than the ones with low-supporting. The children with mothers received low-supporting by their husbands were rated as less prosocial by their teachers than the children with mothers received high-supporting.

The Purpose of this study was to develop a comprehensive and integrated child-care services model for children both with and without disabilities. The comprehensive perspective included several dimensions such as education, child welfare, family welfare, and community welfare. Survey research based on theories and models regarding the integrated child-care services was carried out to determine the overall needs of child-care institutions, parents, and community members. The results revealed the need for development in the following three areas: (1) edu-care curriculums for integrated programs, (2) programs for supporting family members who have disabilities children, and (3) improved community members' perception about integrated child-care services. A model was developed for fulfil these identified needs.
This study explored variables related to Korean language education for preschool children with multicultural family backgrounds. Participants were 21 Korean language teachers and 14 women who immigrated from China, Japan, Mongolia, Philippines, and Vietnam to marry Korean men. They were mothers of children 2 to 7 years of age and had lived in Korea an average of five years. Mean age of mothers was 37(range of 30 to 43). Half had college and none had less then middle school education. They were interviewed with a series of semi-structured questionnaires. The children were reported to have a low level of vocabulary and articulation because their mothers could not provide fruitful oral language experiences. Supporting systems including family literacy were discussed.
This study examines how frequently employers offer family-friendly corporate programs and how frequently employees use the programs. This study also seeks to discover whether the implementation and utilization of family-friendly corporate programs results in an increase in employees' childbirths. Data were collected from 377 married full-time employees working in private sector companies located in Seoul and GyeongGi-Do. Frequency analyses of the employees' responses showed moderate rates of implementation of family-friendly corporate programs and much lower rates of employees' utilization. The hierarchical regression analysis revealed that the implementation of family-friendly corporate programs significantly predicted employees' childbirths. However, this was ineffective, having no significant influence on employees' childbirths, when their utilization of the programs was entered into the model. Higher rates of utilization of family-friendly corporate programs predicted more childbirths after employment. This study suggests that the implementation of family-friendly corporate programs per se is not a complete solution to get employees to have more babies. Rather, what matters is the usability of those programs. Finally, the implications of the study results are discussed.
With the increase of single-parent families in the Korean society, the perception of the function and structure of the family is changing. Thus, a public transition toward embracing single-parent families as another form of family is necessary. This study focuses on the families of divorced female single-parents using Walsh's family resilience framework with a strengths-based perspective. It aims to provide the basic data necessary for deducing policy-related and practical ways of supporting the families and for developing programs that help divorced female single-parent families maintain and reinforce resilience. Qualitative analysis was used as the research method. A preceding literature review was also carried out to collect data. The major findings of this study include the following: First, it was found that the average age of divorce is around 30-40, with children of school age. The mothers' level of education was relatively high, ranging from high school graduates to graduate school students. On Rothwell and Cohen's happiness scale, their objective level of happiness was higher (74.1) than that of the average Korean (64). Second, it was found they were very careful to avoid violence in everyday life as an after-effect of domestic violence, which was the major cause of their divorce. Third, their positive and optimistic attitudes about life even in adversity can be interpreted as Walsh's belief systems taking a more important role among other characteristics of family resilience.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the work-family reconciliation level of married women in double-income households. Specifically, the study aimed to test the positive spillover effects, asymmetry, and differential functions of work-family reconciliation. The study thus analyzed 1,114 married women in double-income households in the third-year data of the Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women and Families (KLoWF) done by Korean Women's Development Institute (KWDI), with the exception of those who were separated, divorced, or widowed from their husbands. The data were put to descriptive statistics, frequency analysis, and exploratory factor analysis using SPSS 20.0 for Windows. AMOS 20.0 was used to test the hypothesis on positive spillover effects, asymmetry, and differential functions. The analysis results confirm that work-family conflict, family-work conflict, work-family facilitation, and family-work facilitation are different concepts, thus supporting the hypothesis on positive spillover effects. Secondly, the negative effects of family on work were greater than those of work on family, whereas the positive effects of family on work were greater than those of work on family, which finding partially supported the hypothesis on asymmetry among the components of work-family reconciliation. Finally, the married women in double-income households with preschool children experienced more work-family conflict and family-work conflict than those with no preschool children, which result supported the hypothesis on differential functions between the two groups of women. The findings were combined to provide implications for the utilization of family resources, policies for work-family reconciliation, and plans for institutional supports to promote the work-family reconciliation of married women in double-income households.

A cultural model can change as times go by within one ethnic group. For example, a strong familism has existed for a long time throughout a history of Korea, but it is, just like most social values, now in the midst of a rapid change. Accordingly, Koreans' belief about family values and responsibility for supporting their old parents are changing, too. Especially, supporting parents was one of the highly-estimated traditional values, but it seems to no longer exist. However, one's own rearing experience might be a moderator of association of his or her familism with the ebbing value. Therefore, we aim to address the following research question: What is the relations among college student's familism, their own rearing experiences, and their beliefs about supporting old parents. A total of 155 college students participated in this study. Data were analyzed by SPSS. T-test and ANOVA were used for data analysis. The findings are that college students' beliefs in supporting parents are significantly influenced by their familism and rearing experiences: Those with a strong familism and warm rearing experience have solid beliefs in supporting parents.
