순환굵은골재 치환율에 따른 콘크리트의 압축파괴 및 음향방출특성 (The Effect of Recycled Coarse Aggregates Replacement Level on Localized Fracture and Acoustic Emission of Concrete in Compression)

  • When concrete is subjected to uniaxial compression, the failure process is normally initialed from a localized zone. The localization of failure governs structural behaviors of concrete. In this paper, the compressive strength and failure behavior of recycled coarse aggregate concrete with different replacement level of recycled coarse aggregates are investigated using acoustic emission(AE). AE characteristics of concrete were investigated during the entire loading period. For these purpose, four recycled coarse aggregate replacement level (i.e 0%, 30%, 60% and 100%) were considered in this paper. Result from this study show AE signal, AE method can apply to investigate a compressive failure mode according to recycled coarse replacement level.

이종심조직판막기능부전에 대한 외과적 요법 (Surgical experiences of tissue valve failure)

  • Results of reoperation for tissue valve failure were presented with review of current knowledge. Through January 1986, 19 patients required reoperation: 18 had undergone mitral, 2 aortic, and 1 tricuspid valve. Primary tissue failure was the main cause of tissue valve failure: it occurred in 18 valves [15 mitral, 2 aortic, and 1 tricuspid] at a mean postoperative interval of 54-25 months [range 29-120]. During the same period, 2 patients required reoperation for prosthetic valve endocarditis, 1 for paravalvular leakage. The types of valves failed were 12 lonescu-Shiley valves, 5 Hancock valves, and 1 Carpentier-Edwards valve. All 6 patients younger than 15 years of age at first operation had been implanted with lonescu-Shiley valves and failed after a mean interval of 35 months. In contrast, 11 patients older than 15 years had been implanted with 5 Hancock, 6 lonescu-Shiley, and 1 Carpentier-Edwards valve initially, and eventually failed after mean intervals of 81, 53, 47 months each other. The kinds of valves used at reoperation were 8 lonescu-Shiley, 4 Bjork-Shiley, and 6 St. Jude Medical valves for primary tissue failure cases and 3 lonescu-Shiley valves for the other 3 cases. Overall mortality at reoperation was 10%: 5.6% for primary tissue failure, 50% for prosthetic valve endocarditis. In 15 cases [all mitral] primary tissue failure were caused by calcification associated with or without leaflet destruction or fibrous ingrowth, and in 2 cases [all aortic] caused by cusp perforation and tearing without any evidence of calcification. In conclusion: 1 primary tissue failure is the main cause of reoperation in patients with tissue valve failure; 2. the majority of the failed valves is in mitral position; 3. leaflet calcification is the leading pathology of primary tissue failure; 4, reoperation for tissue valve failure may be a major concern, although the mortality is low; 5. the limited durability of tissue valve suggests its use be restricted to selected cases.

  • Satellite system experiences severe mechanical loads during the launch period. Therefore, positive margin of safety of the satellite system must be demonstrated for every possible mechanical loading condition during the launch period. This paper presents modal and stress analysis result due to quasi-static loads for the satellite antenna system. The failure tendency for the sandwich construction of the satellite antenna system has been studied with various lamination angles of unidirectional prepreg.

  • The Bayesian approach to reliability acceptance sampling has several advantages over the non-Bayesian approach. For instance, the former usually requires less amount of testing time and smaller sample sizes than the latter. In this article, a Bayesian acceptance sampling plan(ASP) based on a failure-free period life test is developed under the assumption of exponential lifetime distribution, and is compared with the corresponding Bayesian hybrid ASP in terms of the expected completion time. It is found that the proposed ASP tends to have a smaller expected completion time than the Bayesian hybrid ASP as the prior assessment of the reliability of a lot becomes optimistic, and vice versa. Tables of failure-free period Bayesian ASP's are also included.

사석방파제 toe부에서의 세굴특성에 관한 연구 (Scouring Characteristics at the Toe of the Rubble Mound Breakwater)

  • This study is aimed to find the scouring mechanism at the toe of rubble mound structures. To investigate the characteristics of scouring in front of the structure, experiments were performed with regular waves in a 2-D flume. The results of this study are as follows. 1) It can be said the characteristics of incident wave causes rolling and sliding of armour block. The difference of wave pressure on the slope, internal flow as well as settlement of armour block due to the weight cause scouring. 2) It is observed that scouring depth at the toe increased when wave height or period increased. The location of ultimate scouring and deposition depth moved seaward when wave period increased. 3) The failure of rubble mound structure was caused by waves or scouring. Failure by erosion increased with high waves and long waves. 4) Using surf-similarity parameter including characteristics of incident waves and structure, scouring and deposition pattern were found and their limit was formulated.

  • There are two kinds of method in ship maintenance. One is the corrective maintenance and the other is the preventive maintenance. For these maintenances recently the stochastic techniques are widely used to keep the maximum availibility and the optimal maintenance period minimizing a given cost function. Thus this paper suggest a method to decide the optimal policy of ship's maintenances by using dynamic programming and the effectiveness of the method is verified through several examples in which failure rates and maintenance data of ship's machineries and parts are given.

  • Studine the characteristic or C.T.I affectine on the tracking failure when interface active materials are diffused into the phenolic resin. we conclude as follow: 1) As the density of $NH_4Cl$ increase the quality or sludge increase the value of C.T.I decreases. 2) The materal of ion absorption can make the period of sludge metallic matal generation delay more than times and the value of C.T.I increase. 3) By addition of interface active material that makes forming period delay, the starting voltage of corona blackdown id delayed and the value of C.T.I is increased.

품질하자보증비의 추정 (Estimation of Warranty Cost)

  • After the buyer purchases the product, the seller's role does not end. If the product fails to function properly before the end of the warranty period, the seller is responsible for its repair or replacement under the seller's warranty policy. There are two common types of warranty policies: the free replacement warranty and the rebate warranty. Under the free replacement warranty policy, replacement or repairs during the warranty period are provided by the seller free of charge to the buyer. Under the rebate warranty policy, a failed item is replaced by a new one or is repaired at a cost to the age of the failed item. The rebate warranty is most often used for items such as a battery or an automobile tire which wear out and must be replaced at failure. This paper proposes a easy way of estimating the warranty cost under the free replacement warranty policy assuming an exponential product failure function on repairable products.

Probabilistic Fracture Mechanics Analysis of Boling Water Reactor Vessel for Cool-Down and Low Temperature Over-Pressurization Transients

  • The failure probabilities of the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) for low temperature over-pressurization (LTOP) and cool-down transients are calculated in this study. For the cool-down transient, a pressure-temperature limit curve is generated in accordance with Section XI, Appendix G of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) code, from which safety margin factors are deliberately removed for the probabilistic fracture mechanics analysis. Then, sensitivity analyses are conducted to understand the effects of some input parameters. For the LTOP transient, the failure of the RPV mostly occurs during the period of the abrupt pressure rise. For the cool-down transient, the decrease of the fracture toughness with temperature and time plays a main role in RPV failure at the end of the cool-down process. As expected, the failure probability increases with increasing fluence, Cu and Ni contents, and initial reference temperature-nil ductility transition ($RT_{NDT}$). The effect of warm prestressing on the vessel failure probability for LTOP is not significant because most of the failures happen before the stress intensity factor reaches the peak value while its effect reduces the failure probability by more than one order of magnitude for the cool-down transient.
