Residual stress in the forged parts affects the resistance to mechanical failure, dimensional uniformity, and the service life of the parts. In order to elucidate the development of residual stress in open-die forging process, elasto-plastic finite element analysis was implemented to radial forging process. Super duplex stainless steel SAF 2507 was selected as workpiece material and a series of mechanical tests followed by numerical compensation to deformation heating was conducted to obtain necessary flow data. The residual stress distributions were calculated using commercial 3-D FEM code and the effects of process design were evaluated from selected results.

The objective of this experimental investigation is to examine the feasibility and the usefulness of the complementary crosstie in the current ACI 318-89 code for rienforced concrete columns subjected to constant axial load and lateral load reversals. Tests were conducted on1/3 scaled four columns with the length of 1.9m and the cross section of 20$\times$20 cm. The main parameters of specimens were the magnitude of axial load applied and the configuration of transverse reinforcements . From the experimental results, it can be seen that while the column subjected to lower axial load represented considerable ductility behaviors, the column subjected to higher axial load showed the brittle failure

The current study is a part of series of research about the evaluation method of the unbonded tendon stress in prestressed concrete member at flexural failure. As the experimental study, a test program with 14 beams and slabs was planed to identify the contribution of each important variable. The variables are (1) the effective prestress, (2) the concrete strength, (3) the amount of tendons (4) the amount of bonded reinforcements, (5) the loading type, (6) the span/depth ratio. It was found that the tendon stress increment decreases as the effective prestress increases. Also, the contributions of concrete strength, amount of tendons, bonded reinforcements, and loading type were observed to affect on tendon stresses. However, the tendon stress increments were minimal at high values of span/depth in contrast with the ACI Code.
The invention of fusion wilding technology has brought on a revolutionary change in manufacturing industry which enables the construction of large scale high temperature plants in chemical, petrochemical and power generation industries. However, among the failure cases of high temperature components, premature failures of weldments have taken a large percentage that indicates the detrimental effect of welding on structural integrity. The accurate prediction of the high temperature behaviour of welded components is thus becoming increasingly important in order to realise an optimised design and maintenance of a plant life. In the present paper, recent research activities on high temperature behaviour of welded structures are briefly summarised. A local deformation measuring technique is proposed to determine the creep properties of weldment constituents. A damage mechanics approach is introduced to study the life reduction and ductility reduction due to the presence of a weld in high temperature structures. Finally, the high temperature creep crack growth in weldments is discussed.

This paper describes an attempt to develop a unified design approach for reinforced concrete short beam failing in shear based on a Arch Factor. Designing for short beam in shear is not as straightforward as designing for flexure due to the complicated interdependency of the variables involved and to the nonexistence of a rational theory tn current design code. Shear failure of reinforced concrete beams with stirrups is influenced greatly because of the actual geometrical shape(a/d) of the concrete and flexural reinforcement steel ratio, stirrup reinforcement ratio and concrete compression strength, size effect etc. The objective of this paper is to present a pilot study to develop a simplified physical model for estimating shear behavior of reinforced concrete short beams. The Key idea incorporated with this model is the Arch factor, introduced by Kim and White.

In this paper, structural behaviors of anchor systems subjected to shear loads are analyzed by using fracture analysis and experiments. Two dimensional finite element analyses of concrete anchor systems to predict breakout failure of concrete through progressive fracture are carried out by utilizing the so-called embedded crack model. Three dimensional finite element analyses are also carried out to investigate the fracture behavior of anchor systems having different effective lengths, edge distances, spacings between anchors, and direction of loads. Results of analyses are compared with both experimental results and design values of ACI code on anchor, and then applicability of finite element method for predicting fracture behavior of concrete anchor systems is verified.
To study seismic performance of steel frame-bent structure, one specimen with one-tenth scale, three-bay, and five-story was tested under reversed cyclic lateral load. The entire loading process and failure mode were observed, and the seismic performance indexes including hysteretic loops, skeleton curve, ductility, load bearing capacity, drift ratio, energy dissipation capacity and stiffness degradation were analyzed. The results show that the steel frame-bent structure has good seismic performance. And the ductility and the energy dissipation capacity were good, the hysteresis loops were in spindle shape, which shape were full and had larger area. The ultimate elastic-plastic drift ratio is larger than the limit value specified by seismic code, showing the high capacity of collapse resistance. It can be helpful to design this kind of structure in high-risk seismic zone.
This paper describes experimental and theoretical investigations on the behaviour of thin walled composite (TWC) filled columns under eccentric loading conditions. Details of the experimental investigation including description of the test columns, testing arrangements, failure modes, strain characteristics, load-deformation responses and effects of various geometric and material parameters are presented. The current paper also introduces the use and effect of lightweight Volcanic Pumice Concrete (VPC) in TWC columns. Analytical models for the design of columns under eccentric loading conditions have been developed taking into consideration the effect of confined concrete. The performance of design equations is validated through experimental results. The proposed design models are found to produce better results compared with available design procedures and Code based formulations. A computer program is developed to generate the interaction diagrams based on the proposed design equations that can be used for design purposes.

This paper presents flexural test results of concrete beams reinforced with GFRP and conventional steel reinforcement for comparison. The beams were tested under static loading to investigate the effects of reinforcement ratio and compressive ,strength of concrete on cracking, deflection, ultimate capacity and mode of failure, This study attempts to establish a theoretical basis for the development of simple and rational design guideline. Test results show that ultimate capacity increases as the reinforcement ratio and concrete strength increase. The ultimate capacity increased up to $8\%-25\%$ by using high strength concrete. The deflection at maximum load of GFRP reinforced beams was about three times that of steel reinforced beams. For GFRP-reinforced beams, the ACI code 440 design method resulted in conservative flexural strength -estimates.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the performance of slab-beam-column subassemblage in the Ordinary Moment Frame(OMF). For this purpose, 3-story building was designed according to UBC and ACI building code(ACI 318-99) and the subassemblages of in the first story were constructed. The subassemblages were classified into interior and exterior. Each interior and exterior subassemblage is modeled by the 2/3 scale experimental specimens. All the specimens have the transverse beam and the columns on the slab have the lap splice as the typical exterior and interior slab-beam-column subassemblage. The interior subassemblage was tested under the constant axial force, while the exterior subassemblage was tested under the fluctuating axial force. Based on the results of the experiments, the performance of each subassemblage is evaluated and the failure mode is investigated.
