High Caffeinated Energy Drink (HCED) consumption among adolescents has been exponentially increasing. The intake of HCED may cause various side effects. However, studies regarding intake of HCED in adolescents have been rarely implemented in Korea. The purpose of this study was to investigate HCED consumption patterns among adolescents and prevalence of adverse effects from HCED consumption and to compare them between middle and high school students. The self-reported questionnaire with 31 questions was used to evaluate HCED consumption patterns and adverse effects. Among 792 students, 455 who had drunken HCED were included in the analysis. Nine (4.0%) Middle School Students (MSSs) and 11 (4.8%) High School Students (HSSs) responded that they did not know HCED, and 188 (83.6%) MSSs and 221 (96.1%) HSSs had heard that HCED contains high amount of caffeine. Seventy-four (36.8%) MSSs drank their first HCEDs from curiosity and 63 (31.3%) MSSs to stay awake while studying. However, 134 (61.2%) HSSs consumed their first HCEDs to keep awake while studying, and 57 (26.0%) HSSs from curiosity. Twenty-eight (12.5%) MSSs and 46 (20.3%) HSSs had increase in heart rate, 52 (23.2%) MSSs and 83 (36.4%) HSSs insomnia, and 8 (3.6%) MSSs and 18 (7.9%) HSSs hand and facial tremor. As shown in this study, HCED consumption among adolescents in Korea was high. Thus, Korean government should continuously focus its efforts to educate not only children and adolescents but also their parents for HCEDs in order to increase parents' awareness of HCEDs and conduct education regarding HCED intake at home above all.

In this paper, we propose a novel feature extraction method for face recognition, based on Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT), Energy Probability (EP), and Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA). We define an energy probability as magnitude of effective information and it is used to create a frequency mask in OCT domain. The feature extraction method consists of three steps; i) the spatial domain of face images is transformed into the frequency domain called OCT domain; ii) energy property is applied on DCT domain that acquire from face image for the purpose of dimension reduction of data and optimization of valid information; iii) in order to obtain the most significant and invariant feature of face images, LDA is applied to the data extracted using frequency mask. In experiments, the recognition rate is 96.8% in ETRI database and 100% in ORL database. The proposed method has been shown improvements on the dimension reduction of feature space and the face recognition over the previously proposed methods.
Secondary deformities of the lip and nose in individuals with repaired unilateral and bilateral clefts may vary in severity, depending on the state of the original defect, the care taken in the initial surgical procedure, the pattern of the patient's facial growth, and the effectiveness of interceptive orthodontic technique. Because each patient has a unique combination of deformities, their surgical reconstruction usually requires the modification and combination of several surgical techniques. Residual lip deformities after primary repair may be esthetic or functional and include scars, skin shortage or excess(vertical and transverse), orbicularis oris muscle malposition or diastasis. The key to accurate repair of secondary cleft lip deformities is a precise diagnosis. This requires observation of the patient in animation and repose. The quality of the scar is not the only factor determining the overall appearance of the lip. Observing the patient in the animated position is critical to assess muscular function. Factors that require precise analysis include lip length, the appearance of the Cupid's bow and philtrum, and nasal symmetry. Only after this detailed analysis can a decision be made as to wether a major or minor deformity exists. We report successful cases using various techniques for the secondary lip deformities.

Recently, finite element analysis technique has been widely used for structural and mechanical understandings of human body in the dentistry field. This research proposed an effective finite element modeling method based on CT images, and parametric studies were performed for the occlusal simulation. The analyses were performed considering linear material behaviors and nonlinear geometrical effect, and validated with the experimental results. In addition, the skull models with two different molar relations such as Class I and full-CUSP Class II were generated and the analyses were performed using the proposed analytical method. As results, the relationships between the mandibular movement and occlusal force of both two models showed similar tendency in human occlusal force. However, stress was evenly distributed from teeth to facial bone in the skull model with Class I, while stress concentration was appeared in the model with full-CUSP Class II due to the changes of occlusal surfaces of the model.
1. Objectives: This study is to investigate the relationship between Intima Media Thickness(IMT) of common carotid artery and Sasang Constitution. 2. Methods: 839 persons, over 40 years old, participated in community-based cohort of Korea Genome and Epiedemiology Study (KOGES) in Wonju City and Pyeongchang City of South Korea from June 2006 to February 2008. Purpose: To evaluate the upper airway dimensions of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and control subjects using a cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) unit commonly applied in clinical practice in order to assess airway dimensions in the same fashion as that routinely employed in a clinical setting. Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective analysis utilizing existing CBCT scans to evaluate the dimensions of the upper airway in OSA and control subjects. The CBCT data of sixteen OSA and sixteen control subjects were compared. The average area, average volume, total volume, and total length of the upper airway were computed. Width and anterior-posterior (AP) measurements were obtained on the smallest axial slice. Results: OSA subjects had a significantly smaller average airway area, average airway volume, total airway volume, and mean airway width. OSA subjects had a significantly larger airway length measurement. The mean A-P distance was not significantly different between groups. Conclusion: OSA subjects have a smaller upper airway compared to controls with the exception of airway length. The lack of a significant difference in the mean A-P distance may indicate that patient position during imaging (upright vs. supine) can affect this measurement. Comparison of this study with a future prospective study design will allow for validation of these results.
3-D image modeling is in high demand for automated visual inspection and non-destructive testing. It also can be useful in biomedical research, medical therapy, surgery planning, and simulation of critical surgery (i.e. cranio-facial). Image processing and image analysis are used to enhance and classify medical volumetric data. Analyzing medical volumetric data is very difficult In this paper, we propose a new image modeling method based on tetrahedrization to improve the visualization of three-dimensional medical volumetric data. In this method, the trivariate piecewise linear interpolation is applied through the constructed tetrahedral domain. Also, visualization methods including iso-surface, color contouring, and slicing are discussed. This method can be useful to the correct and speedy analysis of medical volumetric data, because it doesn't have the ambiguity problem of Marching Cubes algorithm and achieves the data reduction. We expect to compensate the degradation of an accuracy by using an adaptive sub-division of tetrahedrization based on least squares fitting.
BIPV system is one of the best ways to harness PV module. The BIPV system not only produces electricity, but also acts as a building envelope. Thus, it has the strong point of increasing the economical efficiency by applying the PV modules to the buildings. Bifacial solar cells can convert solar energy to electrical energy from both sides of the module. In addition, it is designed as 3 busbar layout which is the same with ordinary mono-facial soalr cells. Therefore, many of the module manufacturers can easily produce the bifacial solar cells without changing their manufacturing equipment. Moreover, bifacial BIPV system has much potential in building application by utilizing glass to glass structure. However, the performance of bifacial solar cells depends on a variety of factors, ranging from the back surface to surrounding conditions. Therefore, in order to apply bifacial solar cells to buildings, an analysis of bifacial PV module performance should be carried out that includes a consideration of various design elements, and reflects a wide range of installation conditions. As a result it found that the white insulation reflector type can improve the performance of the bifacial BIPV system by 16%, compared to the black insulation reflector type. The performance of the bifacial BIPV was also shown to be influenced by inclination angle, due to changes in both the amount of radiation captured on the front face and the radiation transmitted to the rear face through the transparent space. In this study is limited design condition and installation condition. Accordingly follow-up researches in this part need to be conducted.
