Bedding zone in CRFD (Concrete Faced Rockfill Dam) requires bearing capacity to support the concrete face slab uniformly. Also, shear strength which is a key factor in slope stability and impermeability which is to prevent a loss of soils in case of leakage of concrete slab face are needed. In this study, trial prototype construction for bedding zone in CRFD was performed to investigate the compaction characteristics of bedding zone according to the frequency of compaction, water contents and so on. As a results of series of field test, the compaction characteristics of bedding zone in CRFD was affected considerably by the depth of compaction layer and frequency of compaction.
The surfacing of bridge-decks are object to secure trafficability and to protect bridge face from impact load of traffic volume and other external conditions. But the deformation of pavements and cracks happen due to the damage of the bridge-decks surfacing from the increase of the traffic, short maintenance period and continuous vibration of bridge. This test is to make the 3-type high performance concrete that has different mixing ratio and is added the blast furnace slag, fly ash and silica respectively, and to compare 3-type high performance concrete of normal high strength concrete of $400kgf/cm^2$ strength through the static loading test and fatigue test. And test specimen is united floor slab and pavement for the durability of bridge.

Dam concrete should have sufficient durability in wet and dry repetition and abrasion due to water lever variance and also in freezing and thawing resistance as well as water penetration capacity. This study presents various experimental performance to enhance the durability of face slab concrete in concrete face rockfill dam by varying the fly ash substitution of 0%, 10%, 15% and 20% in cement quantity. The effect on durability corresponding to the increasing amount of fly-ash was evaluated and the optimum quantity of fly-ash subtitution was finally recommended. The results show that 15% fly-ash substituion was found out to be an optimum quantity and demonstrated an excellent performances in durability.

ACI318-89 Recommened that when the specified compressive strength of concrete in a column is greater than 1.4 times that specified for a floor system, top surface of the column concrete shall extend 2ft (600mm) into the slab from the face of column to avoid unexpected brittle failure. The major variables are extension distance, compressive strength of concrete (f'c), shear confinement ratio(Vs), and loading types. The test results showed that the load capacity of the specimen subjected to monotonic loading had more than that of the specimen subjected to one way cyclic loadings. The failure models of specimens under cyclic loading were concentrated at 5∼20cm apart region from beam-column joint face. Ducility index(μf) are increased with increasing of shear confinement ratio. The specimen with 2ft extension distance shows more ductility than specimen with lft extension distance.
In this study finite element analysis using hyperbolic model was performed to predict the characteristics of stress-strain behaviour on concrete face earth dam (CFED : a tentative name) raised with coarse-grained materials corresponding to the face slab bedding zone of concrete face rockfill dam (CFRD). The results of finite element analysis were compared with field monitoring data, and the comparison showed a good agreement. And, the analysis results including locus of maximum displacement, maximum stress, stress concentration, and irregular load transfer would be used to devise rational field monitoring schemes for construction management and quality control during construction of CFED.

The voided slab have many advantages, light weight, high load-distribution capacity, low cost and beautiful appearance, etc. But they have also many cracks due to difficulties in designs and construction, analysis, shrinkage, installation and rising force of voided tube. This paper presents the retrofit effects with steel plate(SP)/carbon fiber sheet(CFS) of RC voided slab. As a results of this study, it proved that the strip pattern has to be profitable than full-face pattern in performance such as crack, ultimate loads, stiffness. Retrofit length has many influence on retrofit effects, as the length increases, performance and stability of end blocks higher. Also, it proved that the retrofit on full-section has to be profitable than voided-section in performance, and the overlay length of CFS is desirable to extent approximately and welding(V-cut) has to be efficient than anchors in SP connection. But the kinds of end block and anchor has not influence on retrofit effects.

The primary purpose of this study is to investigate punching shear capacity of flat plate slab using high strength concrete in column. It may be much contributed to economy efficiency and structural advantages that High Strength Concrete(HSC) used for vertical member and Normal Strength Concrete(NSC) for horizontal member. Therefore, six plate flat slab specimens with HSC column and NSC slab had been made and tested with real scale. The major variables were compressive strength of concrete(fck=285, $460kgf/cm^2$), extended length of HSC from column face and amount of shear reinforcements. As the result of this test, the maximum load and punching shear capacity of specimens is affected by extended length and shear reinforcements.

Numerical analysis was performed to investigate the effect of heavy metal contamination on neighboring environment in case a dam is constructed by using rockfill materials contaminated by heavy metals. The numerical simulation carried out in this research includes both subsurface flow and contaminant transport in the inside of the CFRD(Concrete Faced Rockfill Dam), using two commercial programs, SEEP2D and FEMWATER. The three representative cases of scenarios were chosen to consider a variety of cases occurring in a dam site; (1) Scenario 1 : no crack in the concrete face slab, (2) Scenario 2 : a crack In the upper part of face slab, and (3) Scenario 3 : a crack between plinth and face slab in the lower part of face slab. As a result of seepage analysis, the amount of seepage in scenario 2 was calculated as $14.31\sim14.924m^3/day$ per unit width, corresponding to the 1,000 times higher value than that in other scenarios. Also, in the simulation of contaminant transport by using FEMWATER, specified contaminant concentration of 13 ppb in main rockfill zone was set to consider continuous leakage from the rock materials. Through the analysis of contaminant transport, we found that elapsed times to take for the contaminant concentration of about 2 ppb to arrive at the end of a dam are as follows. Scenario 1 has the elapsed time of 55,000 years. In Scenario 2. it is 50 years. Finally, scenario 3 has 27,000 years. The rapid transport of the contaminant in scenario 2 was attributed to greater seepage flow by 500 times than other scenarios. Although, in case of upper crack in the face slab, it was identified that the contaminant might transport to the end of a dam within 100 years with about 2 ppb concentration, however, it happened that the contaminant was hardly transported out of the dam in other scenarios, which correspond to either no crack or a crack between plinth and face slab. In conclusion, the numerical analysis showed that the alternative usage of the contaminated sand and gravel as the dam embankment material can be one of the feasible methods with the assumption that the cracks in a face slab could be controlled adequately.
Today, many important concrete face rockfill dams (CFRDs) have been built on the world, and some of these important structures are located on the strong seismic regions. In this reason, examination and monitoring of these water construction's seismic behaviour is very important for the safety and future of these dams. In this study, the nonlinear seismic behaviour of Ilısu CFR dam which was built in Turkey in 2017, is investigated for various reservoir water heights taking into account 1995 Kobe near-fault and far-fault ground motions. Three dimensional (3D) finite difference model of the dam is created using the FLAC3D software that is based on the finite difference method. The most suitable mesh range for the 3D model is chosen to achieve the realistic numerical results. Mohr-Coulomb nonlinear material model is used for the rockfill materials and foundation in the seismic analyses. Moreover, Drucker-Prager nonlinear material model is considered for the concrete slab to represent the nonlinearity of the concrete. The dam body, foundation and concrete slab constantly interact during the lifetime of the CFRDs. Therefore, the special interface elements are defined between the dam body-concrete slab and dam body-foundation due to represent the interaction condition in the 3D model. Free field boundary condition that was used rarely for the nonlinear seismic analyses, is considered for the lateral boundaries of the model. In addition, quiet artificial boundary condition that is special boundary condition for the rigid foundation in the earthquake analyses, is used for the bottom of the foundation. The hysteric damping coefficients are separately calculated for all of the materials. These special damping values is defined to the FLAC3D software using the special fish functions to capture the effects of the variation of the modulus and damping ratio with the dynamic shear-strain magnitude. Total 4 different reservoir water heights are taken into account in the seismic analyses. These water heights are empty reservoir, 50 m, 100 m and 130 m (full reservoir), respectively. In the nonlinear seismic analyses, near-fault and far-fault ground motions of 1995 Kobe earthquake are used. According to the numerical analyses, horizontal displacements, vertical displacements and principal stresses for 4 various reservoir water heights are evaluated in detail. Moreover, these results are compared for the near-fault and far-faults earthquakes. The nonlinear seismic analysis results indicate that as the reservoir height increases, the nonlinear seismic behaviour of the dam clearly changes. Each water height has different seismic effects on the earthquake behaviour of Ilısu CFR dam. In addition, it is obviously seen that near-fault earthquakes and far field earthquakes create different nonlinear seismic damages on the nonlinear earthquake behaviour of the dam.
